I‘m not sure how much reading I‘ll be able to do in Texas but my Kindle is with me and loaded up!

-Miracle Creek is already in progress
-Stillhouse Lake is on my TBR and was free with amazon prime!
-Red Rising was recommended by a coworker, seems like my kind of thing
-The Priory of the Orange Tree is also TBR and is currently $1.99!!

I did it! I made it!

I‘m leaving for Texas tomorrow (trip with my parents to visit my brother) and will be there until June 1st. This week at work was soooo hectic to say the least.

My goal was also to get my #LMPBC and #readersgonnaread books finished and sent out before I left. Although my bf was the one who actually mailed them, they are officially on the way! @cwarnier @Chili

The items in the bottom half of the picture are a bday present from a non-Litten friend, which I opened several days early since I‘ll be out of town on my actual bday. So excited about the books!

I‘ve also gotten birthday cards from several lovely Littens over the past couple weeks. (Yes, I got them!) You guys are awesome 😊 @Jas16 @BookwormAHN @Kdgordon88 @Lovesbooks87

First weekend porch morning of the year! I spotted a hummingbird visiting our mystery plant so I‘m glad I‘ve put my hummingbird feeders out!

I just started this book which I bought on Kindle. I had it from the library a little while ago but unfortunately with work craziness reducing reading time, it‘s too much stress to have to read on the library‘s schedule right now!

C.Perone Beautiful way to start the day! 1w

Wow. As a lab person who works in a field that is stringently regulated for quality control (as I‘m sure anyone who works in any lab can attest), this story is utterly mind boggling.

I spent parts of this book exclaiming “you can‘t do that!!” while learning the extent of what happened in those labs. It‘s still hard to believe they got away with it for so long and bamboozled everyone.

I vowed this round to be better about posting reviews for my #LMPBC books because everyone else in my group is so good and I suck! 😳 Better late than never!

I wavered between pick and so so but landed on pick. I was surprised how dark this was for YA and I wish some things were expanded on more. However, I think this had some really interesting commentary on our collective obsession with reality TV (I am certainly guilty of this!)

I‘ve been working a LOT of overtime but still reading when I can! Here‘s some #currentreads

Backwards book is my May #readersgonnaread and I‘m not actually reading the monstrous physical copy of 11/22/63 but listening to the audio from the library. I‘ve wanted to re-read it for a while!

Background scenery = mystery tree thing off the back porch. It blooms for like 2 weeks only in the spring and I don‘t know what it is!!??

BiblioLitten 💜 gorgeous 3w
stacybmartin Maybe a rhododendron? Whatever it is, it‘s absolutely beautiful! 💜 3w
whippoorwill815 That‘s what my mom thinks it might be too. I know nothing about plants! It just has green leaves most of the year and I didn‘t even know it bloomed until last spring (our first spring here) and it blooms so briefly! I wish it stayed like this longer ! @stacybmartin 3w
stacybmartin @whippoorwill815 so many of the pretty flowers bloom for such a short time! It‘s so pretty while it lasts though. 3w

Why is it that so far I have read parts of *every* #LMPBC book this round while waiting for car service? Book 1- oil change, Book 2-snow tire removal and now with Book 3- brakes. (Ugh)

I have not gotten much physical reading done this week but I was glad to have this “re-read” on audio to keep me company.

This one really made an impact of being especially disturbing and dark when I read it the first time years ago. I would say that‘s still very true. The feeling of dread is strong with this one. I kept hoping it would turn out differently this time!! (It didn‘t.)

Yes, I have read this book before and yes, I actually own it. But I decided a while back I was going to re-read it and doing so on audio would be most convenient due to all the other books I have to read 😂

Carpet installation was a success! Bottom right is the old (blech!) and bottom left is the new! I redid the whole room in my preferred color palette of blue and gray. The pink has been evicted!

I am doing some re-organizing as things get moved back in. I repurposed this little bookshelf for Litsy books- gifts given to me by Littens in swaps or otherwise and books I picked for postal book clubs too! Tagged book is one I just started.

*Not book related* aside from the fact I‘m off work today and hopefully can get some extra reading in during.....

....New carpet installation! I always loved this room aside from the fact it was literally a floor to ceiling pink nightmare (I do not like pink!) The transformation is almost complete now. Today, this horrifying pink carpet is no more!! (yeah, the walls used to be pink too).

wanderinglynn That would‘ve been a lot of pink. 😬 Hope you‘ll share a photo of the new carpet! Maybe do an HGTV-style before/after montage. 😉 1mo
whippoorwill815 The pink didn‘t even end there ! The window curtains were like hot pink (those have been changed out) and the blinds are like a dark pink (that‘s the last thing that needs to be changed). It was wild 😂 The carpet was the most daunting thing to do though! @wanderinglynn 1mo

I think you could have discussions for days about this collection.

So my concise review is this: A brilliant collection of science fiction short stories! Incredibly thought provoking with a huge range of topics and concepts.

Be aware that these are dense stories full of technical terminology. I think it‘s worth it though!

Favorites: Story of Your Life (basis for the movie “Arrival”) and Hell is the Absence of God. Tough to choose.

Stephuhhnieee This has been on my list since the movie came out (looooved the movie so much)... glad to see a “pick” review!! 2mo

The writing style of this book took a little getting used to, but it‘s worth it. The story centers on a teenager suffering from mental illness and is told from his perspective, which includes both real events and events that are constructs of his illness.

Some heavy topics are covered here but the story is also told with humor and empathy.

Hope you guys enjoy it too!

New library hold is in!

I‘m really interested to read more about this topic.

In the last year or so we‘ve had to implement new policies at work for anyone who may come in contact with drug evidence because of the recent prevalence of fentanyl in the area. Doing what I do best on a Friday night!

My last read was pretty heavy so I‘m ready for a fun thriller. I love the cover design!

I am side-eyeing all these characters who so far have just drank with abandon aboard this tiny ship and apparently are immune to motion sickness... the thought of consuming alcohol on a boat makes me shudder.

This book was fantastic. A tough subject matter for sure but I found this book incredibly informative.

I was only 11 when Columbine happened and I discovered that the vast majority of my vague notions/memories about what transpired were in fact largely myths perpetuated by the media at the time (this is candidly discussed by the author who is a journalist that was involved in the original coverage). Definitely would recommend!

I finished this late last night and my emotions are a bit of a mess!

This series completely swept me up. I haven‘t read a ton of fantasy and this was perfect for me. I loved the world building along with the host of interesting characters (although to be honest Lila was always my least favorite). This book provided a solid end for the characters and gets you in the feels. It‘s over 600 pages but didn‘t feel like it to me. Hello book hangover 😭

whippoorwill815 I just need to talk about Holland for a minute. Such a great anti-hero. He was hands down the star of the show for me and by far my favorite character. He was the Professor Snape of this series and his story and his ending broke my heart. 💚💚💚Holland 3mo

I know it‘s not “The Winds of Winter” but I really enjoyed these three novellas of Westeros. I got easily sucked in to the adventures of Dunk and Egg! “The Hedge Knight” was my favorite story.

I thought these hit the mark for the novella format in that they did not feel rushed or undeveloped to me.

As always, the Targaryen family tree is mind bending and I may have had to consult an actual family tree to try to keep them all straight 😂

Mandigolightly I didn‘t get to as many of yours as I wanted (just three) but I‘m gonna keep going until I‘ve hit them all! 4mo
whippoorwill815 @Mandigolightly No worries, I hope you enjoy some others no matter when you get to them! 😊 I think it helped I had an early start on 1 or 2 due to library availability and Binti was short 😜 4mo

It‘s here! #readersgonnaread

“Handbook for the Recently Deceased” is the journal that was included with the actual book....what a great journal ! 😂

And I can‘t wait to start the book!

Pickpick

I wouldn‘t call this book “enjoyable” but I do like reading dark books (which there is no shortage of here).

It‘s disturbing, violent, bleak and uncomfortable to read. It really hits on the theme that “absolute power corrupts absolutely”.

But it‘s also quite thought provoking and I loved the concept.

It was on my TBR before it showed up on my #NewYearWhoDis list and I am glad to finally have read it!

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I‘ll be reading this one soon! 4mo
