There are a couple decades in between my two most recent favorite albums, and they are not remotely similar except both were clearly labors of love. I also enjoy albums where every song doesn't sound the same - there's a lot of variety in both of these.

I ended my Goodreads Challenge with a book about vampires. The story is not what I expected. I guess I was a bit disappointed by that. It satisfied the criteria for a horror novel but I hated the husband more than I disliked the antagonist. Over all, the story was okay. I like this character for now. I have a feeling that my opinion on him may change, but he also sounds kind of cute if he turns out to be some type of vampire, that would be hilarious.

I really like the 90s references.

So I enjoyed this and found the phrasing different making it a good read. It‘s not a typical vampire book and I really liked that aspect. It has that stepford wives perspective with a vampire in the mix… interesting and enjoyable… Although I would have enjoyed it more with some strong female attitude as it was more go along with the flow rather than take charge of the situation still enjoyable.

Well, this was interesting. I didn‘t really relate to the characters, but enjoyed the story. I know this was set in the 90‘s, but the way the women were treated seemed more 60‘s to me. Very gory, which I find oddly fascinating. Will probably read more of Grady Hendrix.

I couldn't relate to characters and I hated how husbands treated their wives. I think my problem with this book was that this was concentrating on housewives' every day problems and fights and not on vampires. This wasn't a horror story for my taste.

I loved the writing style though!

I'm still collecting my thoughts on this one. It's propulsive and entertaining, but I'm not sure how I feel about the ending.

“She‘d had a left earlobe all her life and suddenly, it was gone. It felt like a friend had died.” I‘m sorry but that is one of the funniest sentences I‘ve ever read.

I loved this book. It was fun, scary, gory, and fantastic. It had all the elements to keep you wanting more, with a not so subtle reminder that classism, racism, and sexism are still very much alive and well in America.

This was an entertaining quick read. The pacing was perfect for this story. When a newcomer starts causing problems, the women of the book club must come together and overcome their traditional roles and expectations to put a stop to it. Very suspenseful and certainly gory in some spots.

I would love to be part of a book club that picks monthly themes, rather than a specific book. I think it would be so interesting to chat about a broad theme within the framework of a bunch of books that handle that theme differently. Plus, its a great way to hear about more books! I don't have the social energy to start a book club, but if this exists and u know of it, please let me know 😅

Omg this book was gnarly and gory. Bored housewives with shit husbands have a book club. New guy comes to town, rich, hot, but he‘s a vampire and he‘s spotted in the poorer, Black neighborhoods, where kids are going missing or brutally unaliving themselves. This book was quite a surprise & went so many places I didn‘t expect &maybe it didn‘t need to. Not sure how I feel about it, need to think. TW: SA, gore, suicide, systemic racism, sexism etc

Starting this one today. Not very holiday but oh well.

This story really grows its characters into becoming strong women and breaking the 'house wife' stigma.

Understanding this book was set back in the 1990's, I'm glad that it showed those stereotypes in a way that demonstrates how terrible and demeaning they are, while still throwing a fun twist on it as these women go outside their comfort zones to protect their families and their community.

This is one of the oddest vampire books I've ever read.
It was not bad, but not my favourite. It was a quick read though, i read it in two days.
The husband's are all the worst.

I have read that there is some racism in this, but then I saw that Bahni Turpin did the audio book, so I am going in with caution.

This was a fun listen today and perfect for October! It‘s completely out of my normal reading wheelhouse, but I thoroughly enjoyed it for a change of pace.

This was October‘s pick for one of my book clubs. I liked it, had some unexpected salacious scenes towards the end of the book and very vivid, sometimes gory details. It‘ll make for an interesting discussion for sure.

I guess I‘m just not ever going to get the appeal of Grady Hendrix. My second book and my second pan.

I really enjoyed the writing, but the story moved a little slow for me. It may have been my fault, because I read two other books while reading this one, but I think the pace could have been picked up a bit. It was also a much heavier book than I anticipated, so I‘ll need to find something a bit lighter next!

A low pick. I was in the mood for something light and whimsical. This started out that way, but then took a turn. Not a bad thing, just not quite what I was in the mood for.

Started this a few days ago! I‘ve heard good things, and so far, I am enjoying it.

This will be my second time calling one of Grady Hendrix‘s comic satire of a horror book fun which seems weird but this book was…fun. I love how, like in Horrorstor, Hendrix has put his very otherwise ordinary characters to work fighting evil - not only the storybook evil of vampires but the more insidious evils of racism and misogyny that unfortunately plague our day to day lives.

“I think,” Grace said, and they sat up straighter, “that it shows a remarkable lack of planning on Betty‘s part. If you are going to murder your best friend with an axe, you should make sure you know what you‘re doing.”

Not my favorite of his books, but still a good read.

I liked my best friends exorcism better but this book was also very entertaining. took a while to get to the action which made it a little slow but i still enjoyed it

The title pretty much sums up the story. It takes place in Mt. Pleasant, SC outside Charleston and it was genuinely a fun audio to listen to. Sometimes you just need a story about book club ladies and a vampire.

It‘s not often that I come across a truly funny, horror novel but this one definitely fit the bill.

Patricia Campbell is a typical Southern housewife. She belongs to a book club solely devoted to true crime and murder mysteries. The arrival of the handsome stranger, James Harris, causes the women to piece together a deadly puzzle about deaths in the area. To protect their families, they take care of the problem in a proper-Southern manner.

Enjoying the Spring weather. Looking forward to meeting southern vamps.

I finished this one up and boy did I love it. I didn't give The Final Girl's Support Group much of a chance but I really loved the tagged book so I'm going to try the other again. It was funny, thoughtful, timely, and relatable. I could help but think that maybe the vampire part is a nod to the opioid epidemic but that's my line of work talking... Loved it!

Ugh I hate men! Okay, not all men but.. the men in this book is especially vile! But overall I really enjoyed this book.
