Repost for @Soubhiville

It‘s October, time to pull out our Grady Hendrix books for #AuthorAMonth. What are you planning to read?

#AuthorAMonth is a no-pressure, no-commitment Litsy challenge. The goal is to celebrate the works of a particular author each month. Authors were chosen through polls by Litsy participants. Read as many as you like, skip months when needed, it's entirely up to you!

Zuhkeeyah Just borrowed “The Final Girl Support Group“! 1d
willaful Oh, I've seen Horrorstor mentioned as similar to Finna, so I'm interested now. 20h

My first book of #scarathlon2022 was this reread which I LOVED as much as last time. So scary, great characters, so original, and this time round I found I was really touched by all the material about good work, bad work, worthwhile work. Go basil, the middle manager who won‘t let the demonic hordes take the cashiers he‘s responsible for.

#teamslaughter @Clwojick +6 non team read plus word search and readathons which I‘ll add on my spreadsheet

Clwojick Agreed! Love this book! 2d

Probably my fave Hendrix so far, and that‘s mostly because I cringed, I laughed and I snorted while driving home. It was both creepy and disgusting, and yet hilarious (the product intros to each chapter, that get increasingly disturbing… amazing!). I feel like I won‘t be visiting an IKEA anytime soon. But if I do, I know what I‘ll be keeping an eye out for.

Such a great day! Starts with a yoga fest and ended with meeting Grady Hendrix. He talked for over an hour and then he said he would stay until the last book was signed! Luckily I was like 10th in line, so I only waited about 30 minutes. He signed all 3! Paperbacks from Hell came with the event ticket, but I bought the other two. If he comes to your area, I highly suggest going!!

KathyWheeler Horrorstor is my favorite of his books. 1w
BarkingMadRun @KathyWheeler I haven‘t read any of these! I can‘t wait to start them! 1w
KathyWheeler @BarkingMadRun I liked My Best Friend‘s Exorcism as well. I hope you enjoy them. 1w
JoeMo Paperbacks from Hell will give you a hilariously told history of horror fiction from the 1970s or so and onward. I learned of some really solid novels based on the feedback he provided and the I‘ve read even more “who the hell published this?” outrageous type of books that are so ridiculous, they must be read to be believed! Some titles are back in print thanks to Hendrix bringing attention to them! 1w
BarkingMadRun @joemo he has us in hysterics about some but he also pointed out ones that we should look for. I can‘t wait to read this, but I will lol I‘m saving it for October 1w

Thanks to #trappedonanisland, my #scarathlontbr is more organized than ever! If you're interested, @aperfectmjk is hosting this challenge on her litsy page. See their original post for details, but in brief, add books you're interested in reading for the month to a goodreads shelf for others to peruse 🕷️ mine has all the thrillers and horror novels I've bought and stuck, languishing on my kindle 🧛‍♀️ and some possibles from the library 🎃

Larkken Tagged is for #aam, and list doesn't include the #teambuddyread because I'm not sure which I'll pick. I'm leaning towards the cozy this year, hbu? Go #teamslaughter @Clwojick #scarathlon +20 pts ☺️🔪👻 2w

In this book, we follow Amy, who is trying to make ends meet working at a furniture retail store called Orsk; think of it as a rip off of IKEA. She hates working there and she hates her coworkers. But when her supervisor Basil asks her and her coworkers to stay overnight for overtime, that‘s when things go bump in the night.

I quite enjoyed this! This was a fun and quirky little horror book. I can‘t wait to read his other books!

In true Grady Hendrix style, this story starts as almost cozily atmospheric, in an off-brand-Ikea way, and then devolves sharply into gruesome, graphic horror. Disturbing and satisfying.

This was definitely weird, but I like weird books. This book is about a store that is an IKEA knock off and when they close for the night, creepy things happen. I liked the characters and the fact that this was funny in a lot of parts, but also scary at some points. Definitely made me freaked out to shop in Ikea late at night! I thought it ended well and I really enjoyed the way it all came together in the end.

A haunted second rate Ikea and your manager is making you investigate it? What could possibly go wrong?! I loved the story - it was campy and cheesy at times (and a little graphic with the horror) but also there were some laughable moments, especially if you have had a retail job and had to deal with corporate.

I LOVED this. It‘s about an IKEA-like store that some employees learn is haunted. I know it‘s a little gimmicky, but I adore how the book looks like an ikea catalog. I love how each chapter starts with a different piece of furniture, and they become more sinister as the story goes on. I love how some of the furniture titles mean something (Drittsekk is Norwegian for sh*t bag). Sooooo much fun!

I usually only audio nonfiction but I saw this free on Audible and ❤️ Grady Hendrix. The reason I don‘t do fiction is because my mind wanders and I‘m like “wait who? Where? why?” But I got to thinking it might take practice? Jury is out on that but this held my attention.

Employees of a wannabe IKEA hunt ghosts after hours and try to clean up before Corporate comes. As someone who served time in retail hell it was hilarious. Lots of personality.

I DNFd this one about halfway through. I was really excited about a book in the format of the IKEA catalog, because I‘m very into design, but that conceit isn‘t really carried very far into the story itself. This is the second Grady Hendrix title I‘ve read this month, and I think I‘m just not a fan. I find the writing style slightly off putting and the character development a bit lacking… so moving on…

What. Did. I. Just. Read?! That was creepy. 💀 I'm not sure if the writing of that story was pure genius, or completely insane. 😳

Amy and Basil work at a giant labyrinthine furniture store that was built on the site of a former prison.

I liked it, but I felt like the gimmick of the store/IKEA catalog format overtook the story and characters, both of which felt flat and underdeveloped. Overall it was more like an episode of Supernatural that peters out at the end instead of a fully fleshed out novel. #Screamathon @4thhouseontheleft

Deliciously creepy and scarier than I was expecting. I was up til 1.30 to finish it. I loved the strangeness and how the humour really worked well, I often feel like humour in horror novels falls a bit flat. The format as an IKEA catalogue was bizarre and very original and I was completely caught up in it.

3⭐ | NARRATION 😁 = Very Good | Narrated by 📣 Tai Sammons & Bronson Pinchot
I thought this had some Poltergeist vibes at times. I wanted to like this more than I did...since it takes place in a retail store and I work in retail; it should have been right up my alley. Unfortunately, it moved so quickly that I felt like I was always two steps behind storywise and before I knew it...it was over.
