This was a pretty good fun book. I listened to the audiobook while cleaning in a day. I didn‘t get bored and it was very original. A little hokey at times but the ending actually pleasantly surprised me a little! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Grady Hendrix is becoming one of my “must buy” authors. His slightly funny and campy horror stories always get me hooked. I started this one in the morning and finished it before bed.
Also, another #Pantone2022 color in the books, #CaramelCafe
Really cool concept and I loved where it ended up, but was ready to bail for the first half.
30/150 I'm not sure what I was expecting with this book, but it definitely wasn't very scary. Weird, yes, creepy as hell, for sure, but not very scary. I've worked in large department stores, they are weird at night when everyone has gone home. 3 ⭐⭐⭐💫
3rd book for #KickTheSlump @DieAReader @GHABI4ROSES 3rd book for #20in4 @Andrew65
1. Horrorstor (audio), Gastro Obscura (ebook) and Mycroft Holmes (print)
2. The Seven Spears of the W'dch'k Its been a long time since a book made me smile and laugh as much as this one did.
3. Wanderers by Chuck Wendig

In this book, we follow Amy, who is trying to make ends meet working at a furniture retail store called Orsk; think of it as a rip off of IKEA. She hates working there and she hates her coworkers. But when her supervisor Basil asks her and her coworkers to stay overnight for overtime, that‘s when things go bump in the night.
I quite enjoyed this! This was a fun and quirky little horror book. I can‘t wait to read his other books!

This one snuck up on me. I had listened to another one from Grady Hendrix and this was a free #Audible book so I said... why not!? Ha! So glad I did. I have yet to visit an Ikea but... I am excited to :)
#12BooksOf2021
In true Grady Hendrix style, this story starts as almost cozily atmospheric, in an off-brand-Ikea way, and then devolves sharply into gruesome, graphic horror. Disturbing and satisfying.
This was definitely weird, but I like weird books. This book is about a store that is an IKEA knock off and when they close for the night, creepy things happen. I liked the characters and the fact that this was funny in a lot of parts, but also scary at some points. Definitely made me freaked out to shop in Ikea late at night! I thought it ended well and I really enjoyed the way it all came together in the end.
I can already tell I‘m going to love this book. I love the attention to detail!
A haunted second rate Ikea and your manager is making you investigate it? What could possibly go wrong?! I loved the story - it was campy and cheesy at times (and a little graphic with the horror) but also there were some laughable moments, especially if you have had a retail job and had to deal with corporate.
I LOVED this. It‘s about an IKEA-like store that some employees learn is haunted. I know it‘s a little gimmicky, but I adore how the book looks like an ikea catalog. I love how each chapter starts with a different piece of furniture, and they become more sinister as the story goes on. I love how some of the furniture titles mean something (Drittsekk is Norwegian for sh*t bag). Sooooo much fun!

I usually only audio nonfiction but I saw this free on Audible and ❤️ Grady Hendrix. The reason I don‘t do fiction is because my mind wanders and I‘m like “wait who? Where? why?” But I got to thinking it might take practice? Jury is out on that but this held my attention.
Employees of a wannabe IKEA hunt ghosts after hours and try to clean up before Corporate comes. As someone who served time in retail hell it was hilarious. Lots of personality.
Only two actual bingos but I'd say thats not too shabby!

Y‘ALL! I got the best #hauntedhollowswap!! 3 books, and so many things I couldn‘t get a good pic with them all in it. Thank you so much @Graciouswarriorprincess !! (Horrorstor is on my tbr list, and the book is so cool; it looks like an IKEA catalog on the inside!) AND mini waffle maker that makes the waffles into spider web shapes. 😃🕸
Fun read 👍🏻
My idea of horror is a trip to IKEA, so a horror set in there is doubly troubling.
Starting this one now!

I DNFd this one about halfway through. I was really excited about a book in the format of the IKEA catalog, because I‘m very into design, but that conceit isn‘t really carried very far into the story itself. This is the second Grady Hendrix title I‘ve read this month, and I think I‘m just not a fan. I find the writing style slightly off putting and the character development a bit lacking… so moving on…

A bit better week last week. Can't believe it's the final week! 💀🎃🖤👻
What. Did. I. Just. Read?! That was creepy. 💀 I'm not sure if the writing of that story was pure genius, or completely insane. 😳
Amy and Basil work at a giant labyrinthine furniture store that was built on the site of a former prison.
I don't get scared easily, especially when reading books, but this one might cause some nightmares. But I still want to read more by Gray Hendrix for some crazy reason. 🤣
Reading with a side of homemade butterfinger chip cookies this afternoon. This book is very intriguing so far!
3.5⭐️ Entertaining story about what happens when the lights go off at an IKEA like store. I loved the references to pop culture ( especially naming EMF detectors after ghost hunting show hosts). Definitely had its gory moments but this was a good read for Halloween time.
A night time shift at a knock-off Ikea turns into a literal house of horrors when the spirit of a vicious prison warden is brought back. Strange and full of twisted horrors, just like I'm growing to expect from Grady. A fun read for October.
It‘s me. I‘m zombies 🧟♀️ ☕️

I liked it, but I felt like the gimmick of the store/IKEA catalog format overtook the story and characters, both of which felt flat and underdeveloped. Overall it was more like an episode of Supernatural that peters out at the end instead of a fully fleshed out novel. #Screamathon @4thhouseontheleft
1. Discovering Scarfolk
2. The only book I've finished so far this month was only so-so 👀 But I'm enjoying the above book and also have some other fun stuff lined up.
3. Anything by Grady Hendrix, but Horrorstor is my favorite!

This is my second time reading this book but the first was all in one night and I was still young enough to be babysat. I really enjoyed it the second time around, especially now that I‘m older and I‘ve held monotonous retail jobs. 8/10, but I liked it better than Southern Bookclub, so thank god Horrorstor was my introduction to Hendrix.
#scarathalon #scarathlon2021 #teamhendrix
Deliciously creepy and scarier than I was expecting. I was up til 1.30 to finish it. I loved the strangeness and how the humour really worked well, I often feel like humour in horror novels falls a bit flat. The format as an IKEA catalogue was bizarre and very original and I was completely caught up in it.
@IamIamIam was absolutely right about it making me scared to go to IKEA 😰
It‘s midnight in the uk so let the #scarathlon2021 readathon timer begin!
#teamslaughter +1
I spent the night before October 1 organising my readathons for #scarathlon2021 and it was a fair amount of work but I feel like I know what I‘m doing now at least! I really want to go for it this year and see how many points I can manage. Now to put my feet up and get a head start on a couple of #teamslaughter appropriate reads. My mum and I are watching Seven tonight to get into the crime mood

3⭐ | NARRATION 😁 = Very Good | Narrated by 📣 Tai Sammons & Bronson Pinchot
I thought this had some Poltergeist vibes at times. I wanted to like this more than I did...since it takes place in a retail store and I work in retail; it should have been right up my alley. Unfortunately, it moved so quickly that I felt like I was always two steps behind storywise and before I knew it...it was over.
Made a start on this today, which will either end up being my first book of #scarathlon2021 or I‘ll be too excited and finish it early. It‘s great fun and a good level of spooky to ease me into october so far. I‘m so obsessed with the idea of a horror novel formatted as an IKEA catalogue

1. A good title can catch my attention, but if the plot does not satisfy me I will not purchase it anyway
2. Horrorstör ❤❤
This one was on the pick/so-so line. I went with pick because it was a fun read and I love IKEA, so I was yearning for an IKEA shopping spree. Though I will never look at an IKEA the same way again 😂
For some reason I was expecting zombies but it was a fun ghost story. The MC was like-able and even relatable and the character growth for Amy and Basil was fun to watch.
Bk12 of August & Bk1 of #LittensDressedInBlood is done! Read as an audiobook while #audioknitting the narration was brilliant. Especially the ads at the beginning of each chapter, they set the mood perfectly. A blend of satire & horror, you can just imagine what the atmosphere would be like in one of those IKEA stores after midnight. Add in the site of a 19thC prison. Nope. Uh uh. #PickYourPoison #PennyPerPage #BookspinBingo #AudiobookChallenge
Kicking off my #LittensDressedInBlood by #audiocrafting to the audiobook of Horrorstór on #audible I loved the authors novel My Best Friends Exorcism a few years ago and have heard great things about this one. Set in an “IKEA”esque store where employees decide to do a dusk to dawn shift to find out exactly why there‘s chaos in the store each morning. Here we go!
Popped into our local indie - an adorable children‘s book shop which now has a small grownups section - to drop off our summer reading bingo cards and came out with a few goodies! Obvs, Horrorstör is for me. ? I‘m a chicken but I like to read spooky-ish stuff every October. Always thought this one looked fun.

Uhh....
Book 79🎧
As a retail vet I was instantly drawn to this😂🖤
A store that is NOT IKEA keeps having furniture vandalized so the floor manager puts together a night crew!🔦
Things get a lot darker and crazier as the night continues… who will make it out alive?!
Ooo I have never been to IKEA but I‘m excited to go soon :) … this is my new commute book (needed something to last me to my drive to my neuro appointment
