Find out if five Dereks are better than one in Nino Cipri's Defekt, the sequel to Finna, the surrealist world-hopping adventure. Derek is LitenVrld's most loyal employee. He lives and breathes the job, from the moment he wakes up in a converted shipping container at the edge of the parking lot to the second he clocks out of work 18 hours later. But after taking his first ever sick day, his manager calls that loyalty into question. An excellent employee like Derek, an employee made to work at LitenVrld, shouldn't need time off. To test his commitment to the job, Derek is assigned to a special inventory shift, hunting through the store to find defective products. Toy chests with pincers and eye stalks, ambulatory sleeper sofas, killer mutant toilets, that kind of thing. Helping him is the inventory team four strangers who look and sound almost exactly like him. Are five Dereks better than one? ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sequel to « what would happen if a wormhole opened in an IKEA? » novella Finna by Nino Cipri.

I love speculative fiction and this two book series is a great example of it. The humour is dry and dark. And there‘s some action in each of the novellas.

Very entertaining and a quick read.

This was such a good read! I immediately put the first book on my To Read-List. It was spooky, with a lot of spookiness coming from how people are treated (e.g. reality). I never knew where the story was really going and yes, I had a soft spot for Derek. I think I'm into anti-capitalist satire.

The second book in the Litenverse did not disappoint! Funny, adventurous, and uplifting.

(2021) Alternate universes and clones and sentient furniture and anticorporate satire. What's not to love?

Another LitenVarld adventure that I absolutely loved! This time we get to meet Derek, the employee who called in sick the night that the wormhole appeared. Now he's been assigned to do a special inventory overnight. And he quickly realizes that his role in the company is more complicated than he could ever imagine. This one hit me in the feels but was still a fantastic adventure that explores embracing your identity and finding where you belong.

TheSpineView Great job! 3y

This feels like more of a companion novella than direct sequel to Finna. Less focus on the interdimensional portals themselves, and more on what would happen if an unethical corporation tried to profit from rather than eliminate the problem. Capitalism, bad! Found family good. Being true to yourself, even better. Warning: teensy bit of body horror. Mostly social commentary sci-fi. Non-binary character and author, yay!

I thoroughly enjoyed this follow up to Finna which follows another LitenVärld employee named Dereck. He's a model employee but when he's faced with four doppelgangers during an after hours inventory, everything he thought he knew about himself and LitenVärld is turned on its head. It's another madcap adventure and I loved it.

peanutnine I can't wait to read this one! Really loved Finna, just waiting on my library hold 😊 3y

Loved it! I enjoyed Finna and Defekt didn‘t disappoint. I feel like reading both again, back to back. Derek was great and to have multiple versions was even better. Excellent read. ❤️

I love the world that Coptic has built here. I wasn‘t expecting a sequel to Finna, but I‘m so glad they wrote one. The Derek‘s are great and I loved trying to imagine what the “monsters” would look like. I think this dog might be defekta to be completely honest.

Whoops, I really love Defekt! I love Derek and his journey, I love meeting your own potential/possibilities, I love weird living furniture, and I love collective action to try and change the systems we are all trapped in! I hope Cipri comes back to this world again someday.

So far:
1) very happy to get a pre-Finna glimpse of Jules! Nice to see them.
2) I Love Derek. He's just the kind of cog in the machine who's life is ruined/revolutionized by body horror and rising emotional awareness that I love to spend time with. You got this Derek!
