Murder on the Orient Express LP
Murder on the Orient Express LP | Agatha Christie
Agatha Christie's most famous Hercule Poirot mystery! Just after midnight, the famous Orient Express is stopped in its tracks by a snowdrift. By morning, the millionaire Samuel Edward Ratchett lies dead in his compartment, stabbed a dozen times, his door locked from the inside. One of his fellow passengers must be the murderer. Isolated by the storm, detective Hercule Poirot must find the killer among a dozen of the dead man's enemies, before the murderer decides to strike again.

Thanks for the tag, @Eggs 🤗

1. Tagged: MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS by Agatha Christie
2. I am still trying to slog my way through WAR AND PEACE; I've been reading it since January. Does anyone have a translation that they'd recommend? Mine's just not cutting it.

I‘ve seen the different movies a lot of times and knew what to expect but still the book is always better. Since I have a daily commute of 1.5 hours now, I spent less time reading but more time listening. I like the Agatha Christie‘s story because you never know the culprit (because Poirot always has extra information).

Had to finish before bed! A gem from the Queen of “whodunnit”. Quick and easy to read, with short chapters. Clues perfectly layered throughout the novel to keep you guessing with a final plot twist to complete the puzzle. Great way to start 2023‘s year of reading!

Glad I never saw any movie before reading this, so the ending was not spoiled in the least. Definitely one of Christie's best; she is incredible with the locked room novel, though in this case, of course, it's a train. A classic whodunit with the required detective tropes. One thing though: lots of prejudice here between men/women, rich/poor, royalty/everyman, even against nationalities. Perhaps typical for the time and where it was written.

I‘m deeply ashamed to admit I‘d not read this one before, but what a delight now that I‘ve finally caught up with the masses.

Fun, fast, and about a crime that you don‘t really mind happened since the “victim” was a monster.

Plus, I finally get why Hercule Poirot is so beloved.

Looking forward to watching at least one of the adaptations this weekend — open to recommendations as to which one is best!

I‘m not going to recap the plot because this is a classic and even those who haven‘t read it are at least somewhat aware of/familiar with it. I‘ll just say that I read this book many years ago and I still remember every plot point and every twist and turn because it‘s literally that memorable. Agatha Christie remains the queen of mystery decades after her death. A brilliant, classic, memorable, expertly crafted novel!

This was the first detective I read in a while that didn't make it obvious who did it. I appreciated that! I also liked the locked-room aspect, which was the main reason I chose this. However, the characters weren't very versatile, and everyone was written down as a stereotype of themself. It stil needs to get points for the plot, though. And in its time it probably was a different experience to read.

1️⃣ Sometimes! I like it when the author allows the reader to catch glimpses of the twist, but not when it comes out of the blue.

2️⃣This was my first Christie. I read it on vacation with my husband before we got married. We took a train trip so it was a perfect reading experience!

3️⃣Christie‘s stories delve deep into the psychotic side of human nature. Sayers writes better prose but Christie is damn dark.

What do you do when there have been so many adaptations of one of your favourite murder mysteries that nothing seems like the real tale anymore?

My answer was to go back to the book and reconnect with Agatha Christie's own creation.

What a fun book! I‘m surprised again at how easy and quick Agatha Christie‘s books are. I saw the movie, so going into the book I knew who killed Ratchett, and that made it fun seeing all the little clues along the way. But I do kind of wish I had read the book before the movie, because twists in books are always fun.

I gifted the box set of Agatha Christie books for my Aunt's 75th birthday. With the biggest smile she asked "How did you know I love her books? These were my fav reads"

Finally I decided to jump on the bandwagon and OMG I loved it. I would not write a review as it has been written before, but as someone who loves crime -mystery, I was amazed with how Poirot's mind works to solve the murder and even more with the plot of this story.

I‘m reading while Emma *gently reminds me* that she had not had breakfast yet. I‘ve been watching the old 90s Poirot TV show with my spouse, and after viewing the absolutely bonkers recent remake of Murder on the Orient Express, I had to see how the book was better. I don‘t know why I waited so long! The cast of characters is fun and a little ridiculous, the style is more modern than I expected and the humor is surprisingly goofy!

This was a re-read for me, for my Detective Fiction class. While I‘ve seen some concern about the lack of depth for the characters, I think that was purposeful. It‘s one of the problems Poirot faces. He doesn‘t have the time to build a rapport, to figure out personalities. He has to go by what is in front of him and fast. I was still surprised by parts of the reveal and still think this is a great twist on the locked-room mystery! ☺️
