#MOvember #ExpressYourself I can‘t remember if I read Murder on the Orient #Express 🤔 ( such a great title ) But I saw the most recent movie with Kenneth Branagh & really enjoyed it. This book was also referred to in Tana Frenchs Wych Elm ... which was fun ...

A classic Poirot mystery! I believe this was a reread first me, but it has been so long that I can't remember if I really finished this book or not. I know for sure I watched the old film multiple times, so it is a familiar story. Great story, great characters, and awesome setting. Enjoyed this very much. I also read this as an audiobook, narrated by Dan Steven's. He did an amazing job. 4 out of 5.

post image

This was my first exposure to Agatha Christie and boy was I stunned by this brilliant novel. A cruel but calculated murder takes place on the Orient Express and it is up to the protagonist Hercule Poirot to figure out who did it and what could be their motive, all while being cut off from civilisation. The author keeps us playing the guessing game till the very end only to bring in the most jaw dropping plot twist. My rating 5/5.

I‘m sure there are hundreds of different cover styles for the Agatha Christie books, but the style of these #Black spines always draw me in. Whenever I‘m at the thrift store these are the ones that I tend to gravitate towards. 🖤🖤🖤 #ChillingPhotoChallenge #TeamSlaughter

I am proud of myself that I made it through this book without flipping to the back to see the reveal, a bad habit of mine. 🤗 It was my first book with Poirot in it, and I had a lot of fun watching him interview everyone and figure things out. The story was engaging enough to break me out of a serious reading slump, though I can see where some might have found it a bit slow going. However it was perfect for me.

batsy Beautiful photo 😍 2mo

I listened to the Audible drama of this and what a disappointment. I love the actual book but this version was terrible. Poirot‘s accent was horrific! And so were a lot of the actors. Did not work for me.

lele1432 OMG I agree!! I'm so glad I didn't get this version. I love the one narrated by Kenneth Branagh. I think he does a wonderful Poirot accent! His American accents were over-the-top, but I think the end proved the purpose behind them. Sorry this one was a dud! 3mo
the-woman-who-read-everything Audiobook accents are always hit-or-miss with me, and they can really make or break a book. 3mo
Naomis-shelf I really enjoy Dan Stevens as narrator for the audio book. It is always a disappointment when the problem is with the voice and not the story. Although, it is always annoying to come across both in the same book 3mo
MoniqueReads305 Thanks for the Audible review. I am always looking for books to invest my Audible credits in and this was one that I was looking at this one as my first mystery audiobook. 3mo
Sarahreadstoomuch How unfortunate. Bad narrators - especially with bad accents- are the worst. 3mo

Hestapleton Is this like a TBR of sorts or a card catalogue? I love them! 3mo
bromeliad @Hestapleton I'm not sure how others are using them, but I draw them out for every book I have read, and then put the date on the back, and any other things I want to note -- good quotes, page length, overall rating, etc. But doing them for the TBR sounds great, too! 3mo

Hi guys. I promise I havent forgotten about Litsy. I've been battling with some pretty bad anxiety the past two weeks that has left me literally cowering away from all social interaction. Not sure where it came from and im not sure if im in the clear since it likes to manifest out of nowhere for me but I am taking time to read after my reading hiatus. I hope everyone is having a wonderful Saturday and make sure to always find time for yourself.

#AudioBaking in the morning.

Bank Holiday, kids still in bed, cats fed, me restless. So, I'm making strawberry cake to my grandmother's recipe. All from scratch, because my grandmother made strawberry cake on a whim and never had ready made ingredients at home - me neither, she'd be proud of me.

First stage was making thick vanilla custard. Next step is sponge cake.

I listened to this on audio, and the narration was excellent, but the story was mediocre for me. It was entirely conversation and introspection. Excellent psychology and analysis, but I must prefer novels that tell a story via action and place (and interaction), rather than one that consists of discussion about a single event that happened at the beginning. I was bored and unengaged.

I got this book for christmas and I tried reading Murder on the Orient Express once before and could not get into it.
However, with this 3 book collection, I am now getting into it. I love mystery novels like "And Then There Were None" and "Private".
Hercule Poirot is quite an interesting character. So I'm excited to read these stories and unravel the whodunit storylines.
