As always with Pratchett, an adventurous tale that is actually an in-depth look at many issues — the challenges and dangers of progress and change, the instability of peace, and always, always the incredible power of the imagination, both singular and collective. I‘m not sure it all held together as seamlessly as some of his earlier work, but thoroughly enjoyable regardless. The Librarian recommends.

Taking a break from The Luminaries, because what even is that book, with something hopefully a little more digestible…

Day 281.
Here I will note 365 books (or as many as I will have before I get tired) that have shaped my taste in literature. No explanations, no reviews. Just the cover of the book.
I do not challenge anyone. You are all welcome to take part.

Excellent collection of true accounts of young hobos during the Depression of the 30's catching trains and hoping to get work. Some were out for adventure but most were desperate.

#readaroundtheworld #czechrepublic This novella takes place near the German/Czech border at the end of WWII. Hrabal uses the simple language of fables to combine absurd yet touchingly human situations with the ghastliness and horrors of war. The Nazi are held accountable as are the average German citizens but young lovers, trains and pigeons round out this glimpse of Czech life.

#BabyBookMail today!

Our local library got some funding for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library so of course we signed up! Took some time to come in but our first book came today.

I am starting this Great Depression hobo account, which I have owned for a couple of years since getting it at a thift store (Deseret Industries in Utah, great places to find old books). I'm interested in this era in U.S. History.

bibliothecarivs Do you have a favourite DI location for books? I have made great discoveries at Logan and Murray. #litsyutah 2mo
KCofKaysville @bibliothecarivs Murray is a favorite but I like Layton too! 2mo
