I read or listen to this book every year. This was the first Christmas that I‘ve had an Audible membership, and when I found this version narrated by Hugh Grant, I knew it‘d be fabulous! My pick for December for #12Booksof2022!

Andrew65 A brilliant book and what could be better than Hugh Grant reading it. I picked up quite a few Christmas books from Audible this year that come free as part of the membership. ☃️☃️☃️ 4w

5⭐️ My last book for #2022. I did a read from this copy, but I ended up reading most of it through an audiobook of A Christmas Carol that was narrated by Tim Curry. Really enjoyed the read/listen. Read for #acaroladay #readalong #2022 #fiction #favourites #bookreview #bookstagram #audiobook #rearead #christmas #classics

Was my #doublespin for December

Alas, I only made it through two books this #December. So the other four go back on the shelves (Kindle & physical) until next year rolls around. I know the #WinterReadathon isn‘t over for 6 more days, but I can‘t read Christmas novels in January. But, I enjoyed both books immensely.

Andrew65 I know what you mean. My reading will move onto more conventional reading for the Readathon.
Hope you have a great January.

DieAReader Totally understandable, all my physical holiday reads were re-shelved on Wednesday. Now I‘m reaching for open/stalled reads, #ImpulseReads, #SeriesReads or just plain shorter reads lol. 1mo

How do you know this story is fiction? A wealthy individual realizes the ability he has to enrich his community and chooses to do so.

LeVar Burton brings such joy to this reading. And every time I read this book, I find more to enjoy and think about. Watching Scrooge see his own life and the impact he has on others, watching him change is a lesson on optimism in humanity‘s capacity for growth that I need every year. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗 #ACarolADay

CBee I would absolutely listen to this just to hear LeVar Burton read it. I adore him! (edited) 1mo

I‘ve never actually read this, and it was included in my Audible membership, so I listened while cooking Christmas dinner and I‘m so glad I did! I‘ve seen plenty of film adaptations, but some of the more descriptive language in the actual text is such a delight! Also, narration by Tim Curry is just A+++ another delightful surprise in the audio version!

Does anyone else have these dishes? I‘ve always thought of them as my Dickens dishes. They were my grandmother‘s but I bought more pieces to complete the set. They are 70 years old so I only use them for Christmas. It‘s hard to make out on the photo, but the shop on this plate says “The Old Curiosity Shop.” That‘s the name of the dishes made by Royal China in the 1950s. Aren‘t they marvelous?

Now it‘s time to put them away for another year

I love reading this book every Christmas; I always notice something different. This time, I noticed that the visits Scrooge makes after he‘s through with the ghosts aren‘t as fleshed out in the book as they are in the movies. He doesn‘t visit the Cratchits at all. It‘s 20° outside, and our heater is out. I‘m in bed with a lot of blankets, a heating pad, and a space heater. I have no intention of moving from here until the heater‘s fixed.

KCofKaysville @KathyWheeler I have read it again on some holidays in the past. I like the really old film from the 1930s as well as the Sims one. 1mo
KathyWheeler @KCofKaysville I like both of those movies too. 1mo

If you don‘t want your Christmas to be a “humbug” then read this short story, so appropriate for this time of the year. However, there are some sexist comments🙁Besides that (I‘m going to try to put that aside) the story was splendid. I read it in conjunction with an audio and it was perfect. I will like to read the other writings that appear in this edition next year or maybe buy another pretty edition, I‘m a book collector🙋🏽‍♀️😜 4⭐️

Gissy This edition has notes explaining some phrases which were very helpful. Also it has some illustrations. In few pages the author is so well descriptive about the time, the festivities and characters. A stamp of that era. There are some movie adaptations that followed so well the story but I also like those funny movie adaptations.

Review of Stave Two: What would you do if you had to watch the most wonderful and painful memories from your childhood? What would you do if you realize what you missed out on because of the choices you made? That‘s what Scrooge had to experience on the night of the first ghostly appearance.
