My librarian suggested this one…shout out to Ava!! It didn‘t disappoint. You will fall in love with Sprout the Hen, she‘s determined, a survivor and a loving, protective mother❤️#SouthKorea

The ending definitely made this one.
I knew it would be heavy in tone before I read it, and for the majority it's a hard read about hard lives, but the ending has a beauty to it, even if you see it coming, and it wouldn't have the same impact if the plot had been gentler, if different choices were made. 1/?
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ First book of the year and #JumpStart2023 complete! I really enjoyed this Korean short story about a hen who has dreams beyond her chicken coop. On the surface it‘s a simple nature story but there are thought provoking themes being addressed such as motherhood, identity and loneliness.
I‘ve hardly had the chance to read this past week and it‘s looking like I won‘t be reading a whole lot in the next couple days so my #lastfirst it is.
Four books almost missed the bus to my sister!!
Sis better read quickly. I‘m know super stoked to read the stack I loaned her!
This is the tale of a hen who dreams of escaping her coop and hatching a baby of her own. Described as a fable this is a charming story. Beautifully descriptive with gorgeous illustrations.
I bought this book after hearing the author speak, so glad I did.
Day 20: I‘m following the idea to post a book from my tbr list from @StaceyKondla and @Cortg
No description or reason for wanting to read it is necessary if you want to join along. #tbrpile
Here is a nice little story from South Korea about Sprout, a hen, with big dreams.
It's lovely written with an enticing and moving storyline. The illustrations are also bringing this book to another level.
In this moving tale, we look at the world through the eyes of a hen who calls herself Sprout. As Sprout ventures outside her coop, a new world opens for her as she struggles to survive, is faced with the reality of her dreams, and bravely withstands ridicule and heartache. The main character may be a hen, but the lessons and emotions are relatable for humans of all ages. An enchanting book, it is no surprise this is an international bestseller.
Illustrations by Nomoco perfectly accompany the simple tale of a heroic hen.
It's cool enough this morning to open the windows and let in the fresh air. I love that!
I found this little book on my shelves and it's kinda pulling me to read it but I suspect it might be a tearjerker and I'm not really in the mood to cry. Has anyone read it?
“I wish that I could fly
Into the sky
So very high..
Just like a dragonfly,
I'd fly above the trees
Over the seas in all degrees
To anywhere I please.
Oh I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah yeah yeah”

These may look like simple fables of farm animals or pets but they raise up many philosophical subjects/themes like motherhood, friendship, survival, betrayal...warning on animal cruelty, though.

Picked completely and utterly at random. Anyone read it? Thoughts?
I really enjoyed this. I love animals, and really felt for Sprout. Even if they weren‘t animals, there is a lot of mother-child type interactions going on between Sprout and the little one. And interesting (and sad) interactions between Sprout, the little one, and the other farm animals
This was a cute fun read. I loved Sprout and her undying love for Greentop. I think it makes a powerful statement, as well, that blood doesn't make family which is something I connect to deeply.
This has been on my shelf for years! It‘s time...
A short, effective tale of love, motherhood, resilience, and tolerance. I fell in love with the protagonist – a scrawny hen who dreams of freedom and hatching an egg. Also, the last chapter left me teary-eyed which is not what I expected from a book about ducks, hens and weasels. A great read if you're looking for something simple yet powerful.
1. I have eclectic reading tastes, but this is the one book rec that connects w/ all who read it (so far). I cry then smile every time I get to the end. 🐓
2. Yep, the cats would be displeased otherwise.
3. 43 F
4. Mashed potatoes with A1 sauce.
5. Will do!

Congrats on your milestone @Laughterhp
And thanks for the giveaway! 🎉🎉🎉
I recomnend the tagged book. A lot.
I don't know why it affected me as powerfully as it did (I am not a mother) but I found this book heart wrenching. Have a box of tissues nearby. It is a simple book, but not simple.
It was a book club selection that I did not expect to like, book turned out to love.

@MaleficentBookDragon this was so good! It was such a great story!!! I really enjoyed hanging out with my sweet Zelda and reading about Sprout. ❤️📚❤️Thank you again for this book!
So excited with everyone‘s pictures I could not wait anymore! Thank you @MaleficentBookDragon I am so excited I have not had chocolate cherries in years. My Grandpa used to love them! I think I am going to stop what I am reading now and pick up the Hen! Thank you organizing this swap it was so much fun!!! 📚❤️🎄🍫
Short but powerful and sweet. Great messages about intolerance and motherhood.
For the #24in48 Hour 30 Challenge of what under the radar book I would recommend, my choice is The Hen Who Dreamed She Could Fly. This book wrecked me. It is about motherhood, sacrifice, differences, and love. I'm surprised it affected me so much because I'm not a mother, or very nurturing. You MUST read it now. I plan to read The Dog Who Dared to Dream, but I'm not sure if I am emotionally able to right now. Full review is on Goodreads.

#BookOutlet haul alert! 🚨🚨🚨
So, who else is ready for some open mouth, little bitch crying?
I‘m going to have to pace myself.
What else is insomnia for? 😁
I was home alone one day & watched a movie called #DaisyAHenIntotheWild & I won't lie, I cried for hours!! The movie was adapted from this book, which is a story about dreaming you can be something more, love, growing up, motherhood, bullying, identity, intolerance & ultimately sacrifice. All of these wonderful relatable topics are wrapped up in a beautiful & heartfelt little book. It's a short, quick read that will stay with you for a long time.
I‘m going with so so rather than pick because not everything can be a pick, but I did really enjoy this. Very sad in a lot of places but had a meaningful fairytale quality to it too
Sprout might be my new literary heroine. This book though. 😢
“...she was unable to attend middle school due to poverty, but thanks to a teacher who gave her a key to a classroom, she could go to the school and read books whenever she wanted.”

#januaryjoy is another great giveaway from @Avanders
I highly recommend The Hen Who Dreamed She Could Fly.
This is not my usual kind of book, but this one floored me. I loved it so much.
Warning: Have some tissues nearby.
I‘d love to hear what others thought of this book, especially if you read it from this recommendation.
Um, this book is adorable. It's super short so I grabbed it for the last Dewey's readathon. I did not expect to get so invested in the life of this poor chicken. ❤️
Did you like ‘The Alchemist‘, and ‘Jonathan Livingston Seagull‘ then you‘ll definitely like 'The Hen Who Dreamed She Could Fly‘. Finally I got a chance to read/listen another #BookSwapRecommendation.
This book is just LOVELY! Animal characters are so believable and relatable. I am in love with ‘Sprout‘, a hen and ‘Greentop‘, the wild duck and many other characters. There is a profound message about our destiny, humanity, our dream.
This book. Oh this book. #tearinupmyheart
Thus had me open mouth, little bitch crying so much. 😭The story and writing was so beautiful though.
I need to emotionally prepare myself for the other one.

Book mail is our favorite mail! 📬📦📚
(Cookbooks have become my biggest book weakness!)
My parents are immigrants but I was born in the US. So while I speak Korean fluently, I can read & write very little. I always wonder what I'm losing in the translation. Some translations are better than others. For example, the literal translation of the Korean title is "The hen comes out of the yard". This title is obviously better. ? #womenintranslation #aprilbookshowers @RealLifeReading
#blameitonlitsy #bookmail @Lacythebookworm
I'm still too embarrassed to share alllll the book mail I get.
Had a few minutes to start this little book this morning and it's ringing my bells. 😍
A beautiful and moving story about #courage #motherhood and #sacrifice. Only a short book, but so heart-felt.
