Thirteen | Steve Cavanagh
'Plotting that takes the breath away' Ian Rankin 'Steve is a fantastic thriller writer' Mark Billingham They were Hollywood's hottest power couple. They had the world at their feet. Now one of them is dead and Hollywood star Robert Solomon is charged with the brutal murder of his beautiful wife. This is the celebrity murder trial of the century and the defence want one man on their team: con artist turned lawyer Eddie Flynn. All the evidence points to Robert's guilt, but as the trial begins a series of sinister incidents in the court room start to raise doubts in Eddie's mind. What if there's more than one actor in the courtroom? What if the killer isn't on trial? What if the killer is on the jury?

5 ⭐️ I absolutely enjoyed this book. It was fast paced, exciting, and the ending caught me by surprise. So much fun. The audiobook was great too. I found myself sitting in the car after I had arrived at my location just so I could finish a chapter.

Trying to finish this off but I just can‘t seem to focus on it for more than a minute at a time. Waiting to hear back on a house we put an offer on and it‘s so nerve wracking! This house is our last chance so fingers crossed and desperately trying not to throw up from all my anxiety. Good vibes appreciated at the moment.

ljuliel I hope it all works out for you. 🤞🏼. I always say whatever is meant to happen, will, so if you‘re meant to get this house ,it‘ll come through. If it doesn‘t work out, the right one is still out there waiting on you. 💜 1w

Bk22 of my #Scarathlon #TeamSlaughter reading list is done. I enjoyed this thriller about a movie star accused of murdering his new wife & his head of security after finding them in bed together. No one believes he‘s innocent, except his lawyer & a member of the jury who happens to be the serial killer responsible for the deaths. Great premise & well written. 11points #PointsTotal-1,572

Settling in for a few hours of reading with a chamomile tea & the rest of this thriller. It‘s still confusing as hell, but it‘s fascinating. Starting to get an inkling of what‘s going on but have no idea why. And I‘ve discovered it‘s the 4th book in a series so I‘ve tracked down the first 3 from my local library. Has anyone else read the first books? Are they worth it? #Scarathlon #TeamSlaughter 1point #PointsTotal-1,561

Bk21 for #TeamSlaughter in the #Scarathlon is a thriller by an author I haven‘t read before. My youngest may have interrupted my readathon last night, but at least she gave me two books to make up for it😋This is one of them and it sounds great, plus it‘s on theme. The murder trial of the century with a ruthless prosecutor & a brilliant defense attorney. Except the killer isn‘t the defendant, he‘s on the jury. 1point #PointsTotal-1,544

This was a very clever, well-written legal thriller. If you don‘t want to commit to reading the books that come before it in the series (or just want to jump straight to this one because of the hype), it works well as a stand-alone!

This also helps me out for the #scarathlon #scaryscavengerhunt - number in the title and part of a series

A fast paced and unique legal thriller. While I wasn‘t able to predict the final twist, there wasn‘t enough lead up for me to believe the twist when it happened (it‘s hard to explain without spoilers!). Read it for the premise of a serial killer on the jury. Do with the twist what you will. Enjoy the ride. #netgalley Book 1/6 for #bfcr4

I didn‘t know it‘s the 4th book in the Eddie Flynn series but it can be read as a standalone. Fast-paced, and well written, it‘s a very plot-driven legal thriller with a sympathetic protagonist who is likeable enough to root for. I was surprised with the twists and final reveal. Thought a couple of parts are a bit over-the-top, still it kept me on the edges. Clever and gripping overall.

Thanks for sending me this @Cathythoughts

When I started Steve Cavanagh's Thirteen, I *really* wasn't sure I was in the mood for a thriller, and I was fully prepared to give it 50 pages or so and then return it to the library, unfinished. And then, it hooked me in a major way. (The fact that this is several books into a series somehow also wasn't a deterrent--Cavanagh includes enough background to make up for the lack of context, though I'm sure there were subtleties I missed.) ⬇️

UnabridgedPod The premise here is a clever one, as summarized by the cover's tagline: "The serial killer isn't on trial. He's on the jury." The book alternates between the serial killer's third-person-limited perspective and the first-person narration of Eddie Flynn, a conman-turned-defense-attorney who is serving as second chair on a high-profile murder case involving a Hollywood power couple. ⬇️ 2mo
UnabridgedPod The book offers continuous action, some surprising and believable twists, and flawed, empathetic characters. I'm likely (when my TBR is a little less pressing) to pick up the previous books in this series because Thirteen was SUCH a great page turner. 2mo

What separates this serial killer from others is the motivation behind his killings and victim selection. He's clearly mentally ill & he enjoys his work. But there's an ethos, an ideology behind him, Everything he does is toward this goal, toward living out this ethos. I absolutely loved this, & the more we saw this was behind the killings, the more I liked it (& the more impressed I was with the creation of this killer). https://wp.me/p3z9AH-48h

This was one very clever courtroom procedural with plenty of twists & surprises. Is it plausible?! Not really, but that still didn‘t take away from this thrilling cat and mouse game between an ex-con turned attorney & a serial killer. What I didn‘t realize was this book is number 4 in a series ( Eddie Flynn) and while this works fine as a stand alone, I think prior background knowledge of Eddie & his antics would have made this read even better.

TrishB I brought this and realised it was number 4 and have brought the previous 3!! Number one has been read so far. 5mo
