Since yesterday was my 58th birthday, of course I had to add more books to my ever growing #tbrmountain. I have a feeling it's about time for another #bookbuyingdiet round before the start of 2022.

Pickpick

This is, sadly, not the copy that I read. I vividly recall when ARCs of this were being released & jealous of the copies in the clamshells! I read, & loved, Darnielle's debut novel Wolf in White Van 4 years ago, but when UH was released I heard many mixed things from all over the place. Jeremy works at Video Hut in Nevada IA in the early 2000s when customers start to complain about unusual scenes split into movies. Darnielle's novel is about👇

vivastory family & memory & the specific psychic space in which the narrative occurs. I would be shocked to learn that Darnielle had not spent time in Iowa. He really nails the particularities of the region. I greatly admired this elusive novel & am eagerly anticipating his forthcoming novel. 3mo
Leftcoastzen I‘ve almost picked this up many times….my mom born in Iowa , raised mostly in MO. (edited) 3mo
vivastory @Leftcoastzen I never lived in Iowa, but I used to have family there that I visited & I would always pass through when I lived in MN. I think you'd really like it. He's a really interesting person. 3mo

Megabooks Great review. I‘m glad you go to this one. 👍🏻 3mo
vivastory @Megabooks Work became a bit overwhelming and I had to set it aside for a few days. I'm glad I returned to it though. 3mo
BarbaraBB It sounds really good I think. 3mo
BarbaraBB … and I see that I had stacked it already! 3mo
vivastory @BarbaraBB I think you would like it. It reminded me of Iain Reid's books in parts 3mo
BarbaraBB That‘s a recommendation. And one @Megabooks made too, I now remember. Must read it. 3mo
Suet624 Jumping in here to ask if you‘ve seen Dune at the theatre yet. 😃 3mo
vivastory @Suet624 This upcoming weekend! I wanted to give it a week to let the crowds not be as intense. I can't wait! Did you see it? I was talking to a friend last night & was telling him that I was surprised that with all of the talk surrounding Dune that I haven't heard mention of the documentary Jodorwsky's Dune. It's by far one of the most interesting documentaries I've seen about a movie that was never made. (edited) 3mo
Suet624 Oh gosh, Scott. I don't know if you remember but when the first trailer came out I freaked out and posted about it. (The Pink Floyd music was a brilliant addition.) Then I had to wait a year. Saw it last night. You should come to Vermont - there were 6 of us in the theatre - granted it was a Tuesday, but still... It was the quickest 2.5 hours I've ever spent. It was so good. I'd love to see it in an Imax theatre, but that's not (cont...) 3mo
Suet624 happening in Vermont. I'd have to go to Boston or Montreal. They do a great job of telling the story for those who haven't read the book. Not too much gore which was great. Beautiful imagery, sandworms were fantastic. I have heard several bloggers talk about the documentary and I want to find it. I sure don't want to oversell it, but I'll be going again (even though my theatre smelled a bit too much like a bunch of kids had peed in their seats. 3mo
vivastory @Suet624 It feels like years ago that the first trailer was released. I've been really looking forward to it as I love Denis Villeneuve's movies. My plan is to go on Saturday afternoon, so I don't think there will be too many people in the theater. I def missed the movie going experience during the pandemic but as I have attended more movies I have had to readjust to some of the minor annoyances of being out in public. As much as I enjoy the book 3mo
vivastory @Suet624 I have the suspicion that this could be a case where I like the movie even more. Fingers crossed! 3mo
Suet624 @vivastory Images still linger in my mind from the movie. I can't wait for you to see it. Let me know what you think. 3mo
vivastory @Suet624 I definitely will 👍 3mo

I fell off the wagon today. I was in the used book store and there were just too many good books to pass up. I did make it to 13 books of the 20 I planned for my #bookbuyingdiet , and only bought 5 today, so I have chipped a little off #tbrmountain.

Ruthiella A little backsliding can happen! 5mo

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join the fun if you want.
