Lost in a Good Book
Lost in a Good Book: A Thursday Next Novel | Jasper Fforde
101 posts | 147 read | 3 reading | 55 to read
The second installment in Jasper Ffordes New York Times bestselling series follows literary detective Thursday Next on another adventure in her alternate reality of literature-obsessed England The inventive, exuberant, and totally original literary fun that began with The Eyre Affair continues with New York Times bestselling author Jasper Ffordes magnificent second adventure starring the resourceful, fearless literary sleuth Thursday Next. When Landen, the love of her life, is eradicated by the corrupt multinational Goliath Corporation, Thursday must moonlight as a Prose Resource Operative of Jurisfictionthe police force inside the BookWorld. She is apprenticed to the man-hating Miss Havisham from Dickenss Great Expectations, who grudgingly shows Thursday the ropes. And she gains just enough skill to get herself in a real mess entering the pages of Poes The Raven. What she really wants is to get Landen back. But this latest mission is not without further complications. Along with jumping into the works of Kafka and Austen, and even Beatrix Potters The Tale of the Flopsy Bunnies, Thursday finds herself the target of a series of potentially lethal coincidences, the authenticator of a newly discovered play by the Bard himself, and the only one who can prevent an unidentifiable pink sludge from engulfing all life on Earth. Its another genre-bending blend of crime fiction, fantasy, and top-drawer literary entertainment for fans of Douglas Adams and P. G. Wodehouse. Thursdays zany investigations continue with The Well of Lost Plots. Look for the five other bestselling Thursday Next novels, including One of Our Thursdays is Missing and Jasper Ffordes latest bestseller, The Woman Who Died A Lot. October was SUCH a busy month that not as much reading happened as planned. But everything I read was super enjoyable, so bring on November!

I did slightly better this week, but with so much going on, I've been losing my motivation! I get home and I'm just too tired and frustrated to track and exercise. I'm glad I got this much in, at least. Help, Team #GobletofFitness! @wanderinglynn, @bookandcat @Crazyspine @Honeybeegirl
#BFC #BookFitnessChallenge #BFCR4

bookandcat I'm losing my motivation too! Was sick for the past 2 weeks (missed my checkin last week) and the only goal I've done either week is the reading goal. Haven't walked at all -_- I believe in us! We can do it! I also might change my goal to just be like hit 9000 steps on at least 1 day this week (plus the book goal). Just to get me on track again. 1mo
crazyspine @jmtrivera @bookandcat agreed that it gets tough especially as the weather begins to change the cooler at least for me. I like the idea of adjusting our goals; we got it. 1mo
jmtrivera @crazyspine @bookandcat For me, it's the end of the quarter madness at work, plus a lot of personal stress at home. I know I need to prioritize my health, but sometimes it's a lot. But I'm going to try again. I tracked today's food and I'll take this week one day at a time. 1mo

Second book in the series was also an excellent reread. I find it so much bookish silly fun!

At the most recent Friends of the Library sale, I picked up the entire series, in very good condition hardcover, *except* the first installment! Now I'm on a quest to complete my collection.

Redwritinghood I love the whole series. 5mo
JoyBlue @Redwritinghood I loved all those I read. I'm not sure I quite finished the series, but I will now (after I re-read from the beginning). 💙 5mo

#LetsGetLost in the Thursday Next series where the line between literature and reality becomes blurred, allowing characters in the books and those in 'real life' to jump in and out of novels.

The villian of the second Thursday Next book is a memory manipulator, though what I recall the execution is pretty different from the scumbag in Violations. I remember it as being good, but it has been awhile (and maybe Aornis has gotten to me!).

I liked the first book a lot but wasn‘t compelled to immediately jump into the second, so it had been a while, but I loved this and wish I‘d listened to it sooner. It‘s clever, witty and smart and the audiobook narration is excellent. I‘ll definitely be picking up the third one soon.

BookNAround I love the Thursday Next books. I haven‘t finished the series because I like having one left but I should probably just get to it and enjoy it like I know I will. 10mo

I officially love this series. Book 2 was even better than the 1st. So many unexpected twists and turns. So much bookish content! Now I have to read the next in the series. I think I heard it was only a trilogy though so there may be an end in sight. Edited to add: After looking up the author, there are more than 3 books in the series. And he has other books I now want to read as well. I'm doomed.

Thursday Next series are still on my TBR but I love a literary detective. The title sounds good, something we can relate to.

Leniverse Unpopular opinion time. I know this series gets a lot of love, and the idea and the weirdness of it all is great, but the writing isn‘t. I thought the second book was a bit better than the first, and I have the whole series, so I hope it‘s a case of the author improving with practice. Or getting a better editor. 1y
Linsy Great title! I‘ve always meant to try Fforde. 1y

To clarify my rating: since the only available options here are either Pick, which to me equals to 4 or 5 🌟, or So-So, which to me equals to 3 🌟, I would give this book 3. So I go with So-So. It had a lot of unique ideas and was really funny at times, but it also kind of dragged along for a while. I think it could have be done with about hundred pages less. But it is a good book and I loved reading more about Thurs. So I would recommend it.

EmilyReadsEverything I liked the British humor... I wasn't sure about the actual plot. 2y
