Usher's Passing | Robert McCammon
post image
Pickpick

This was a creepy, wild ride. The story is a fictitious look into the Usher family that inspired Poe's Fall of the House of Usher.

McCammon delivers page turning thrills involving a haunted house, witches, a family torn apart by their secrets, and a scary urban legend about a creature in the woods who eats children.

It‘s tough to shed a bad mood once it creeps up on you. This picture book might help though! It‘s got great spatter paint illustrations, and some suggestions for budging your curmudgeon.

First of my picture book #A2Z for #BBRC, #LetterU

Recommend this to anyone looking for tools to reduce the stress/anxiety in their life. It was a good read with practical examples. I didn't get my yoga/ meditation in for #bfcr2 week 2 but this book has given me some new goals for week 3. #bookfitnesschallenge #bfc #litsyatoz #letterU @wanderinglynn @mitch

wanderinglynn Excellent! And you can use this as your week 3 optional photo challenge (if you want) as it's going to be favorite motivational or most helpful book. 😀 3mo
phatsallylee @wanderinglynn prefect timing for me! I'll add the tag on when you post it 3mo
Mitch Sounds really interesting - going to check that out. More ideas the better! 🙏 3mo

A very short book for #LetterU for #litsyatoz but not one I can recommend. Written by the couple‘s granddaughter, this felt more like an assembly of events with far too much author analysis of what the MC must‘ve been thinking. MC was clearly all-knowing and omniscient about the war (thick sarcasm), and the author told us that every chance she got. Absolutely no subtlety. This story should have remained in the family archives.

Smrloomis Ouch 😣 Anyway an honest review is always appreciated! 4mo
Crazeedi Thanks for review, sad it wasn't better 4mo
Texreader @Smrloomis @Crazeedi It just wasn‘t well written. It could have been lots better. It felt self-published with only herself or a biased relative as editor. 4mo
Smrloomis @Texreader an unbiased editor is indispensable. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 4mo

I just added the tagged book to my #Litsyatoz records. I‘ve started books for #letterU and #letterX. So that leaves just three letters to go, O, Y, and Z, for which I already have books lined up! Barring a catastrophe I will finish this challenge much earlier than my normal crunch in November-December.

What if childless, unmarried people with jobs that aren‘t critical to the function of society were considered “dispensable“ at 50?

As I‘m nearing that period and almost could fall into that category, this was interesting to me. These folks are forced to live in a closed community that is essentially a luxury jail and undergo experiments and donate organs to “needed” people.

Similar to Handmaid‘s Tale and Never Let Me Go, a great read!

Chrissyreadit I keep reflecting that we live in the world that does not truly value humanity based on homelessness, income disparity and health. 4mo
mreads I loved this too and I'm also close to that age and circumstances 😄 that I extra appreciated it. 4mo
Hooked_on_books Interestingly, I had never heard of this book but saw it posted by someone on here recently so I requested it from the library and just got it this week! I‘m looking forward to starting it soon. 4mo
Soubhiville @Hooked_on_books it‘s book kismet! I look forward to hearing what you think. 4mo

Started this ebook tonight for #letterU for #litsyatoz

Smrloomis I hope it‘s good! It definitely sounds interesting. 4mo
Crazeedi I'm curious to hear your opinion on this book 4mo
Texreader @Smrloomis @Crazeedi I‘m not liking the writing style and the naive MC is driving me crazy. I‘m still less than halfway through it so perhaps it will improve. 4mo
Crazeedi @Texreader well rats! I hope it gets better or else abandon it!! 4mo
Smrloomis @Crazeedi darn, I agree with you but then I don‘t mind dropping a book if it doesn‘t seem worth the time. 4mo

Was surprisingly half decent. While there were aspects that were clunky, I thought it was an interesting topic to broach. 4⭐️#bookreview #bookstagram #letteru #u #litsyatoz2019 #litsyatoz

My first impression of this book was that the four main characters, prostitutes in Antwerp, moved there from Nigeria, had all chosen that life of their own free will. Reading deeper into each woman‘s story, it became clear that was not the case for most of them.

Obviously sad, and full of triggers, I still enjoyed getting to know these four ladies.

Chosen for #LetterU #LitsyAtoZ

ShyBookOwl I haven't read this book but I'm not sure free will is much of a factor for a lot of women in such scenarios. It's really quite upsetting. 6mo
Soubhiville @ShyBookOwl I think you‘re right. It‘s very upsetting. 6mo
