An interesting six minute read about reading goals and challenges. “The only difference between a nonreader and a reader is that a reader has a plan for future reading and a nonreader does not.”

https://www.theatlantic.com/education/archive/2019/06/do-people-finish-their-goo...

#readinggoals #readingchallenges

rretzler The part about planning and being a reader vs nonreader is interesting. I‘ve been a reader all my life - started young and there have been only a few times that I‘ve not had a book or a few that I‘m reading (college and babies spring to mind, but even then it was textbooks and picture books) and average 125-150 or more books per year. Last year was the first year that I ever planned my reading and I‘m 55. Planning, IMO, has its ups and downs 4mo
hjreviews Very interesting article. Like @rretzler, I‘ve been a reader my whole life (I have a clear memory of 10 year old me wanting to read 100 books in a year). However, it hasn‘t been until this past year and a half that I‘ve really felt like a reader. I read multiple books at once, of multiple genres, and keep a journal. But my “planning” is simply read 1/7 of the books a day. Doesn‘t seem like that should make such a difference but I guess it could. 4mo
LibrarianRyan This was interesting. It seemed focus on numbers and vaguely mentioned challenges. I do know somepeople who make a list of the books and then go about reading them. For me (750 goal, 188 behind), the number is nice, and I plan to do challenges, but let it be more random. Read the book and then find where it fits. 4mo

Weaponxgirl I find the planning idea interesting, I love making lists of books I want to get to and of books that fit prompts for certain challenges but at the end of the day I‘m a mood reader. My planning is more inclined towards the having these lists available for when I‘m in the right mood to read them. I‘m in the category of enjoying them because I‘m never that bothered if I manage to finish the goal or not. Just happy I‘ve read great books 4mo
SW-T @rretzler @hjreviews @LibrarianRyan @Weaponxgirl I‘ve always been a reader. My idea of a goal is “try to read today.” I do make note of things I‘d like to read someday and when I‘m in the mood, I read them. It‘s interesting to me how some people plan their reading lives, how they pick what to read, track things, etc. I sometimes wonder if setting goals sets people up for success or failure, but figure it depends on the person and the goal. 4mo
rretzler @LibrarianRyan @hjreviews @Weaponxgirl @SW-T My planning consists of making a list of books that I want to read during the year - next book in a series, group reads I know I‘m participating in, new releases from my favorite authors and books I‘ve been meaning to read. I participate in challenges, but never plan for those. Like LibrarianRyan, I read what I want and then try to figure out where it fits and if it fits. I get to more of my TBR now! 4mo

I haven't done a check-in recently on my yearly reading challenges, and I am quite satisfied with my progress! An audiobook and two graphic novels helped bump up my numbers in a month that was extremely busy!

Also ✅ another series for #seriesread : A Song of Ice and Fire! Finally! And now I join the wait for the next book. #gameofthrones

Friday's Child | Georgette Heyer

Quite new to Litsy, but here is my first post!!!!

Working on my vacation #TBR, and a reread of Friday's Child is high on the priority list. I love rereads for vacations - no stress about how things are going to turn out!

#litsywelcomewagon - any tips or insights are quite appreciated as I feel my way around this new site!!

Chelleo Welcome to Litsy! You can checkout these #Litsytips by @RaimeyGallant http://bit.ly/litsytips and #LitsyHowTo videos: goo.gl/UrCpoU are helpful. There‘s so many fun things to do: book exchanges, buddy reads, photo challenges and more! #LitsyWelcomeWagon If you have questions, just ask...we're a friendly bunch :) 4mo
RaimeyGallant Hello and welcome! 4mo
TheAromaofBooks @Chelleo - thank you so much!! Both of those things were quite helpful. Is there any kind of central location to see what kind of reading challenges, etc. are going currently, or do I just need to peruse tags at random? 4mo

I'm having a blah day today so I've decided to pull out my journal and try to get some #readingchallenges organized. It's about time I took this out of the package and put it to use!

A brief March wrap-up and check in for all of my #readingchallenges! My favorite book of the month is tagged.

Also participating in #seriesread, but I haven‘t tallied those yet, other than knowing I fully completed two series so far this year:

✨Harry Hole by Jo Nesbø
✨The Wrath & The Dawn by Renée Ahdieh

My #TBR for #OwlCrateAThon #readathon is a bit ambitious, but I have plenty of catch-up reading to do.
.

?#ReadingChallenges:
.
.
? "Of Fire & Stars" is the unread #OwlCrate book I've had the longest
.
.
?"Sleepy Hallow," which was a bonus book from a past box, is the shortest unread Owl Crate book I have.
.
.
#ocathontbr
.
Let's see how many of these I can read in two weeks

I haven't posted monthly stats for several months so I'm trying to get back in the habit. I completed 5 books in January. 4 of them were picks for BookishMarginalia's #LitsyAtoZ2019 (F, H, P, Q) I also used First King of Shannara as a "your choice" pick and HP & the Cursed Child as my "Saving the world from evil" pick for DuckofDoom's #SFFTBRChallenge. My favourite reads in January were Going Postal and Quiet. #JanuaryStats #ReadingChallenges

This is for those #littens who like reading challenges for motivation, range, cleaning out your TBR, diversity, genre, fun, challenge, etc. Huge list covering pretty much everything you can think of. Happy reading! 📚📚📚📚

Kaye Nice list. It sorta gives me the hives because it‘s hard for me to commit to challenges. My reading feels too restricted. I‘m trying to stick with the 50 States one but it‘s all I‘m going to work on now. Interesting to see all the ideas though. 8mo
SW-T @Kaye It is a nice list. My only “goal” is whittling away at my physical and digital TBRs in no particular order. 8mo
Kaye Sounds good. I‘m not very good at scheduled reading. It soon feels like a task rather than a hobby. 😊 8mo
SW-T @Kaye Agreed! 8mo
