Loved it
I enjoyed this fast fun read! It will be in the mail this week! I‘m so glad you chose it @julieclair I had to look up EM Delafield and honestly am fascinated and Wikipedia did not provide enough information. Picture taken with Loki #kittensoflitsy #lmpbc
So witty and entertaining! Her life (seemingly filled with more downs than ups at times) is all too relatable!
(The copy from my shelf pictured with my winter bulbs in bowls 😉)
This was a perfect pick for our #LMPBC group @julieclair ! It‘s on its way to you @Chrissyreadit !
1930 for #192025
My out-of-town relatives have departed, so while this week was quite busy, it didn't feel as out-of-control as the two weeks before that!! A little more reading was accomplished, but still slow - catching up on things around the house and still SO MANY PEACHES!! 😂 I'm more or less hopelessly behind on reviews, so here is the sum-up:
-Tagged book was my #LMPBC read and I really enjoyed it. Lots of humor and a fascinating glimpse into a different ⬇
I couldn‘t stop laughing as I read this book for #LMPBC Round 15 #GroupL. The author‘s dry self-deprecating wit is right up my alley. It reminded me of reading Erma Bombeck. The book is supposedly semi-autobiographical, and I really enjoyed the glimpse into the life of an upper middle class English family in the 1930s. Truly a different world.
It‘s on its way to you, @TheAromaofBooks . Hope you enjoy!

What a hoot! I adored this quick read of a genteel woman‘s attempts to keep up with society‘s expectations during rather hard times in the 1930s. Has that satiric edge, like Nancy Mitford, that I love. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was interesting if you like knowing the minutia of everyday life of others. It reminds me a lot of Mrs. Tim and the Regiment. It also reminds me of a book of letters I read a long time ago by Wallis Simpson before her marriage to the Duke of Windsor. Similarity comes from the constant worrying of if there is money enough to have parties, go on foreign travel and trouble finding servants. Surprisingly, for me the narrator remains likable.
My latest acquisition of @persephonebooks titles. This month, I‘m planning on reading either, ‘Patience‘ by John Coates or ‘The Fortnight in September‘ by R. C. Sherriff. ‘Diary of a Provincial Lady‘ by E. M. Delafield, is a firm favourite of mine. If you‘re in need of a light hearted, comical read, do pick this lovely book up. It would be an especially warming read right now, when we‘re all in need of a generous dose of good cheer.
Can‘t wait to escape into the life of a 1930s British wife and mother living the “provincial” life so like my own.😀 Found this shopping for books in Canada and was recommended as a humorous read which I need right now. Thanks LB
When your next read color coordinates with the surroundings. It only makes sense as I am reading a book from a feminist press (Persephone Books) while sitting in a feminist co-work space/social club (The Wing). I can‘t think of a better way to spend Super Bowl Sunday. 😉
A lovely Christmas surprise! And what a cool cover!😍 Thank you so much Jessie! 😘 It's been on my TBR for ages and now it's going on my (ever growing pile) of books to take on Xmas holiday.
I hope the Xmas season in Malaysia is merry and bright! 🎄⭐🥂
(Btw, did that other delivery from Book Depository ever arrive? 😬) @erzascarletbookgasm
Sunday morning - a pretty book, a strong coffee & a cool breeze to take the edge off the temp from the past few hot, hot days - delightful!

Just finished writing my full review of this novel on Goodreads and added this scene to it, one of my favorites. It made me cackle!
I can‘t think why it took me so long to read this. I‘m a delayed gratification person to no end when it comes to books, but I‘m thinking of making 2018 my year of reading 5-⭐️ predictions.
This book was so funny, witty, satirical and hard to believe it was written in 1930! It‘s timeless really. Running a household is still challenging, and sometimes we buy dresses (or books) when our account is overdrawn and we don‘t want to adult. 🌹🌹🌹🌹 #vmc
I love that! This little old lady is never alone as long as she has “Her Books.” They really are friends. Sigh.

I chuckled at this. Nice to know that even in 1930 women looked forward to the #BOTM selection(s). Glad we have more options nowadays.

Early morning reading! The introduction was awesome! #currentlyreading #bookandtea #vmc
A nice palate cleanser for those who like Mapp and Lucia. Lightly funny and yet giving a taste of life for those not quite of the Downton Abbey set, but close enough to get the occasional invitation-cum-commande to the local Manor house.
A couple of books on my #tbr that were #publishedinthe1930s 💫

Was habe ich dieses Buch geliebt. Soviele schöne Verweise auf andere Bücher und der tolle Schreibstil. Das Leben auf dem Land hatte schon was. 😍
I loved this book so much. So many #bookishreferences and a gorgeous style of writing. The life in the province must have been great. 😍
#tbrbingo
Question: could this be a story of Sherlock Holmes? It seems like that. 😍
I love #bookishreferences. 😍
Driving by train to my best friend for getting your marriage organised. 😉 So I have some time for this one. I'm really curious about this book.

#thebest way to end the week is with some long-awaited book mail and a drink! 🍷
The book on the left is Paul Auster's New York Trilogy and all of the illustrations are amazing! Definitely my favorite ❤️
Tagging some of the #foliofreaks who have influenced me to finally take the plunge 😄 And @Cinfhen bc #Augustgrrrl 🍒
This is a book club pick. I wouldn't have discovered it otherwise, but I'm so happy to be reading such a charming and hilarious tale!
Finished this gem this morning under the watchful eye of Hemingway, who was there I'm sure to remind me to pay attention to him. This book, though, was witty, charming, ahead of it's time, enchanting and now I must search out all her books. 📚😍
This book is so much fun! Published in the 1930s it is thought to be largely autobiographical. If that's true the author is definitely someone I would have wanted to hang out with!
"She is never alone when she has Her Books. Books, to her, are Friends. Give her Shakespeare or Jane Austen, Meredith or Hardy, and she is Lost - lost in a world of her own. She sleeps so little that most of her nights are spent reading."
• Isn't this quote lovely? I love getting lost in my book world. Thanks @LeahBergen for the recommendation! I'll still probably buy the pretty Virago copy! ?

Oh, so funny and charming. EM Delafield's commentary on provincial English society is a hoot!
How have I not read this before?! It's like a drier and wittier Bridget Jones if Bridget Jones was a much put-upon, upper crust housewife in 1930s England. I'm loving it!
A #ruralsetting for this one, if not particularly secluded. My journey is very rural though! (Difficult to get a good picture from a moving train)
There's nothing like a train for a truly appalling cup of tea. On the plus side the book is hilarious, just what I need for a tedious journey
The books patiently #onthenightstand patiently waiting for me to finish my current ARC. Soon my dears... #aprilbookshowers
I get my #CheapThrills by book-hunting. This was a recent $1 find at a thrift shop. 👍🏼 #LyricalApril
@bookriot #riotgrams day 23 - Funny Books
I'm going with a book that is just as hilarious now as when it was published in 1930. DIARY OF A PROVINCIAL LADY is comprised of scenes in the life of an upper-middle class British woman. It's so full of sarcasm and wit (with illustrations like this one) that I dare you not to laugh!
She is never alone when she has Her Books. Books, to her, are Friends. Give her Shakespeare or Jane Austen, Meredith or Hardy, and she is Lost - lost in a world of her own. She sleeps so little that most of her nights are spent reading.
Just a few of the #epistolary books that are in my #virgaomodernclassics collection for #readjanuary

When you get to the party and there's someone else wearing your outfit #persephonebooks #macmillancollectorslibrary
#recommendsday - both THE DIARY OF A PROVINCIAL LADY and CHEERFUL WEATHER FOR THE WEDDING are wonderful reads, the former quite hilarious and the later much less so.
DIARY OF A PROVINCIAL LADY, told as a year's worth of journal entries, is a book of two levels. On one, it is a quaint tale of rural British life in the late 1920s. On the other, commentary on British and foreign classes. Many comparisons to BRIDGET JONES' DIARY, especially the fancy dress party.
Hoping this sweet, twee book will help with my current book hangover.
"December 24. - Take entire family to children's party at neighbouring Rectory. Robin says Damn three times in the Rector's hearing, an expression never used by him before or since, but apparently reserved for this unsuitable occasion."
