Mehso-so

Up early this morning just couldn't sleep so I finished my book.

Review: I have mixed opinions about this book.
It didn't wow me or have big events or anything going on but it did cover some interesting topics which was fascinating to read about.

Adding another book to my #currentlyreading pile. I want something that feels like summer and that will transport me. I‘d also like to read the remaining 3 books in her memoir series.

Grrlbrarian Love Betty McDonald! You will enjoy them all ❤️❤️❤️ 6y
RidgewayGirl Book is a lot of fun, just be prepared for a large helping of racism in with the humor and charm. 6y
EvieBee @Grrlbrarian I‘ve had her books for some time and it just felt right to start now! 6y
EvieBee @RidgewayGirl That‘s always awkward, isn‘t it? Many of the Persephone books from the 30s are dated in that sense too. 6y
CindyMyLifeIsLit You do have that huge societal difference in the openly expressed racism, but fortunately that is a very small part of the book. The rest of it had me often laughing out loud, as her other books do, as well. They are some of my very favorite books! Someone who can make tuberculosis hilarious is truly gifted! 😁 6y
EvieBee @CindyMyLifeIsLit I‘m so glad to hear that! I just feel like this is exactly what I need at the moment. Learning to do the best we can with whatever circumstances we have. I ordered her last book on audio. Hopefully I can read them all by the end of this summer. 6y

Pickpick

This book is so amazing! I‘ve got a ton of books to read/buy based on the recommendations for certain ailments. My only quibble is that there were definitely spoilers for some books. If you‘re aware of that going in, you‘ll fare better. I‘m just grateful for my awful memory. By the time I get to some of the recs, I‘m sure I‘ll have forgotten the spoilers! 👩🏻‍⚕️👩🏻‍⚕️👩🏻‍⚕️👩🏻‍⚕️👩🏻‍⚕️

tammysue Looks delicious! 6y
catebutler I just had this book show up a few weeks ago, I‘ve flipped through, but need to sit down and read it. I love the premise of the book, it sounds perfect for reading slumps. 6y
EvieBee @whatshesreadingnow It was so good! Nothing like hot 🍲 on a simmering day lol! But worth it. 6y

EvieBee @catebutler It took me two months to get through! But I‘d read tiny chunks at a time and I think that‘s why I enjoyed it so much. Hope you enjoy it, too! 6y

This made me laugh so hard! I‘ve never heard of “man flu.”

“Man flu is a miserable illness not just for the victim but for all concerned. Bed rest is essential, and the patient—indeed, ‘victim‘ is probably more apt—will require a great deal of sympathy. The victim should be propped up on soft pillows and provided with mugs of tea, heating pads, meals on trays, the remote control, and messages of support and commiseration regularly.”

JacqMac It‘s the worst! 😂 6y
TheWordJar I‘ve personally taken care of a victim of man flu. It is a true miracle he survived! 😂 6y
BiblioLitten @TheWordJar same. 😂 There are hilarious jokes on the man flu too. Of course, the victim never admit to it.😀 6y
EvieBee @JacqMac @TheWordJar @BiblioLitten Haha! The novel cure for man flu is the huge volume of Les Mis which if not completed can be administered again when another bout of man flu hits your home. 🤣😂😂 6y

Settling in for an afternoon of reading with a white wine spritzer. I threw some frozen berries into the mix and it‘s been fun watching the blueberries bounce up and down. Wonder what the science is behind that. 🤔

JoScho I don‘t know but it sure looks pretty ❤️ 6y
LeahBergen Pour me a glass and I‘ll come watch with you. 😆 6y
MamaGina My new warm weather drink is a vodka tonic where I use frozen mango cubes instead of ice cubes, so yummy🍹 6y

EvieBee @JoScho Lol thank you! 6y
EvieBee @LeahBergen Come on over! 🍷🤓 6y
EvieBee @MamaGina Okay, that sounds amazing! I think I have all the ingredients for that. 6y
TheWordJar In elementary school, I did a science fair project called “Dancing Raisins”—putting raisins in Sprite and watching them go up and down. The carbon dioxide bubbles get trapped in the wrinkles, causing the raisins to float. At the top of the glass, the bubbles pop, causing the raisins to sink. 🤓 6y
BiblioLitten @MamaGina cool! There are so many mangoes right now. I'm sure I'll like them with the bubbles.😀 6y
EvieBee @TheWordJar That makes so much sense! And it‘s only the blueberries doing the bouncing! Thank you! ♥️ 6y
EvieBee @BiblioLitten @MamaGina I forgot I had bought a lemon infused vodka after the holidays on sale! It was so good with the mangoes and tonic. (edited) 6y
MamaGina Wow @EvieBee @BiblioLitten ... you kicked it up a notch girlfriend!!! 😃 6y
bitterbear I have the same bookmark 😍😍😍 6y
EvieBee @bitterbear I had the very first one. I think I bought it in 2008 but it didn‘t have a tassel or bling! So I retired it when I saw this bad boy. So handy, right?! 🤓 6y

It‘s taken me over a week to figure out what to read next and get past a few chapters. So I think it‘s safe to say I will be reading this through. Phew. Now to choose a library book from the pile. Probably a mild case of reader‘s block.

It‘s been so long since I stepped foot in my library. Or at least it feels like it. I think it‘s been 7 weeks. A few weeks before I went on vacation, I decided I should be #readingmyshelves and canceled all my holds. Unthinkable! But I‘ve been getting such great recommendations from you Litsy pals, Podcasts and books about books. Decided I needed to get to these ASAP. Or at least attempt it.

#libraryhaul #bookhaul

Ddzmini Look at that bookshelf in the background 😍 6y
EvieBee @Ddzmini 🤓😆🤗♥️ 6y
catebutler These look great! It‘s been such a long time since I‘ve been to my library too. I think reading from my own shelves has been a bit of a priority, but this post has made me think I need a visit back to the library ASAP! Love the position of the mirror in this picture. 😍 6y
EvieBee @catebutler Thank you so much! ♥️ I find that when I do set limits or bans on buying and only reading my books, I spend way more on books. I really just wish I could enjoy my personal library to the fullest but as long as there are new books I‘ll always want to read other things. Sigh. 6y

New read and early dinner! My first time making couscous! I didn‘t realize it was so easy. Can‘t wait to finally sink my teeth into M.F.K. Fisher‘s book of essays—inspired by the book THE READING CURE.

According to the Half Price sale sticker I removed, I purchased this in 2012, but it had been in the store (and marked up) since 1991!

ValerieAndBooks Love MFK Fisher! The Reading Cure sounds good— I checked out the blurb. 6y
catebutler I was just thinking about how I needed to pick up a book by MFK Fisher! Great minds!! 6y
EvieBee @ValerieAndBooks I‘ve been meaning to read her for so long! I don‘t know why she seemed inaccessible to me before but just started and she‘s a darling! I hope you enjoy The Reading Cure! I never pay full price for a book but I knew I needed it when I read the blurb. It was worth the $13. 😆 6y
EvieBee @catebutler Great minds for sure! Did you by chance catch the author interview on the Tea and Tattle podcast this week? So good! She urged listeners to read M.F.K. Fisher and Patrick Leigh Fermor for sure and ASAP. Oh and Virginia Woolf‘s A Writer‘s Diary if we didn‘t want to commit to the unabridged 5 volume set. I think I need that Persephone edition now. 🤓😆 (edited) 6y
catebutler @EvieBee I‘ve been saving the podcast, now that I‘ve finished I‘m finally going to give it a listen! I actually just downloaded a complete collection of VW‘s works on my Kindle. I have quite a few of her books, but some of the essays she mentioned I don‘t have a copy of. And yes! I think her diary is going to be one of the next Persephone‘s I order. It‘s been on my radar for far too long. 6y
