Secondhand Spirits
Secondhand Spirits: A Witchcraft Mystery | Juliet Blackwell
Love the vintage- not the ghosts Lily Ivory feels that she can finally fit in somewhere and conceal her "witchiness" in San Francisco. It's there that she opens her vintage clothing shop, outfitting customers both spiritually and stylistically. Just when things seem normal, a client is murdered and children start disappearing from the Bay Area. Lily has a good idea that some bad phantoms are behind it. Can she keep her identity secret, or will her witchy ways be forced out of the closet as she attempts to stop the phantom?

This was a fun supernatural cozy mystery. It‘s part Good Witch, part Supernatural - charming and a little creepy. My only complaint is Lily constantly referred to her car as her”vintage Mustang”. Yes, classic cars, especially American muscle cars, are special, but I don‘t need to be reminded the car is vintage every 15 minutes. Otherwise, the characters here are (mostly) delightful, the whodunnit was clever, and the audio narrator was good.

DGRachel My first finished read for 2023 is also my first #AuldLangSpine. Thanks for the fun recommendation! 💖 1y

Read first days of August- Perfect to start with autumn mood which is around the corner.
Lily is the owner of a store where she sales mostly vintage clothing. This job is perfect for her since she is a witch who feels vibrations in old things and her abilities will help to resolve a death in the neighborhood and the disappearance of some children. I enjoyed it but the end was okay. But I already have the second book in this series. 3/3.5⭐️

I‘ve finished a lot of audiobooks this week. This one was okay. Lily is a witch who has moved to SF and started a business. Originally from TX, she was prosecuted for being a witch and ran. She now owns a vintage clothing shop. A little girl gets captured and Lily teams up to find her.

A vintage store-owning witch solves a murder and a disappearance. I appreciated the non-cutesy witchcraft in this one: There was brewing, incantations, and talismans. Spooky plus voodoo plus supernatural crime solving.

I was tagged by @Chrissyreadit to do this fun little activity to help my match for the #CozySwap get to know me! I‘m pretty simple... I love all things fall and cozy. Pumpkin all the things 😍 I‘m comfiest reading in my bed with a fluffy blanket and hot mug of tea or coffee (usually the latter, though). My favorite cozies I‘ve read so far have been the tagged series. I also really enjoyed the first book in each ⬇️

vkois88 Of the following: Carol Perry‘s Witch City, Louise Penny‘s Inspector Gamache, Ellery Adams‘ Secret Book & Scones Society, Ellery Adams‘ Book Retreat. I haven‘t delved too far into MC Beaton yet, but I‘ve devoured Janet Evanovich‘s Stephanie Plum books. I‘ve also read every Mary Higgins Clark book. Idk if they are considered cozies, but they‘re definitely mysteries 🔦🔎💉 4y

My brain had a hissy fit this week, so instead of pushing myself at work, I did what needed to be done and then hid with my Kindle. The benefits of working from home...?

As a result, I need to up my book goal for #BFCr4 because I‘ve read all six books that were my original goal. 🤣 My goal now is 16 books — two per week, plus the six I got done in the first week.

(I didn‘t continue the series b/c my library doesn‘t have #6 available right now!)

I‘m shopping for the #cozyswap tonight. To anyone who may be stalking me... pictured are a few mystery books I‘d love to receive.

Question for anyone who may live in a southern state (TN, GA, SC, NC, AL): with the warmer weather there, do you still often use cozy blankets and scarves? Being from North Dakota, I have no reference for warmer climates and don‘t want to send something that won‘t be useful but found a great idea for the theme 🤷‍♀️❄️

wanderinglynn I grew up in TN & yes, we used blankets & scarves. It snows occasionally in TN. Same for NC, particularly in the mountains. 5y
Butterfinger Agree with @wanderinglynn It gets really chilly near the NC coast too. 5y
Megabooks I lived in TN, NC and SC for most of my adult life and definitely used them in fall and winter. I‘m a big believer in gloves, too. And I loved an infinity scarf my boss gave me and would wear it all winter!! 5y
Megabooks But it was a light scarf - cotton/poly blend, not wool. 5y

I put it off to let the story sink in & then totally forgot to review this!! I LOVED this book. Definitely a cozy mystery at its finest. Lily Ivory is an extremely powerful witch running from her past who finds a safe haven in San Francisco running a secondhand shop that primarily deals with women's vintage fashion. Unfortunately, Lily can run but can't hide from who she truly is. When tragedy befalls two acquaintances - one being a little girl ⬇
