I enjoyed this. The plot line had some bumps in the flow where I felt like something brought up was just dropped or everything happened at once but the characters all felt relatable. It drew me in and I wanted to learn more but the story itself wrapped up nicely, so that I felt satisfied at the end.

This is a very interesting plot with some really interesting characters. The first book gives you background and intros that draw you in and make you want to know more.

I really enjoy modern interpretations of fairytales and this has a good story with interesting visuals. Definitely for mature audiences but a really fun read.

This was a very interesting concept but I felt that it was stuck trying to decide if it wanted to be a technical/clinical book or a anecdotal/self help book. Some pieces tended to repeat but I did take in a few new ideas for self care.

Michelle McNamara is able to tell an audience about a terrible murderer while also making sure the victims do not get lost as a list of names. The completion of this book was well done and shared an obsession that many arm chair detectives will understand.

The characters are fun and intelligent without being boring or pretentious. There were moments where one said something and I responded with a “mmhmm.... riiiight” but it was still appealing without putting me off the story. The plot had sharp turns with a good twist that kept me turning the pages. I would suggest this for people who enjoy Victorian era mysteries although there are a few sexual overtones but nothing erotic.

Kingdom of Exiles | Maxym Martineau

The word building in this book was amazing. I could see the beasts and picture the settings easily and it made me want to learn more. The character building was good in that they were consistent and fleshed out but I think there was a disconnect with pacing. The characters made choices that went with their personalities but some decisions felt like they happened too soon or too late. Overall I enjoyed the book and would recommend.

Song of Achilles | Madeline Miller

Pickpick

This was beautifully written. Miller did a great job and expanding characters that history already knows about to make them more real. I know the Achilles story so something about the pacing of the book did feel a little stop and go to weave them together but the ending really brought the story to a nice close. Overall I would recommend.

The Kingdom | Amanda Stevens

I felt that there was so much good that could be utilized but then it became too much. The mystery aspect felt lost in the rush to get to the main twists and realizations and the book was wrapped up so fast that it felt like someone tying knots instead of wrapping up loose ends. I could write more but my feelings aren‘t exactly straightforward about this book. I recommend for an easy read but not for strong component in a series.

This was an easy read with an interesting plot. I love cozy mysteries with magical elements and this book gave me witch craft and folk lore while crafting a fun mystery with just enough twists to keep me guessing.

The Restorer | Amanda Stevens

I enjoyed the mystery and I‘m going to continue the series but the romance felt a little too heavy. There was too much “I looked at his chiseled jaw and my heartbeat quickened”. The plot had plenty of twists and I really enjoyed the explanations for graveyard symbology though so overall I liked it.

Midnight Riot | Ben Aaronovitch
Pickpick

I am in love with this book series. Midnight riot opened the world up nicely while still containing a single mystery. The writing is seriously hilarious and the characterization was amazing. I always recommend this book and have gotten great feedback.

writerlibrarian The series is really, really good. 4y
LouWho89 I‘m also really excited that Simon Pegg bought the media rights to it. I hope he‘s thinking about making a new show with it because I think it would translate really well 4y
