Thank you for the thoughtful gifts @Caroline2 and @jenniferw88 - Marmee sounds so good, and I'm really looking forward to reading it. And I'm slightly obsessed with the Franklin expedition and the Arctic, so The Arctic Fury is perfect for me.

"The entire Arctic was a frozen mouth full of icy teeth, and it would slay those women. They‘d become another of the expeditions lost forever on the ice, marching off into oblivion." p. 246. Hardly the Artic, but relative extreme weather for the Southern US. No school, no plows, no mail for 7 days now. #NewYearNewBooks Great time to reread this gripping story that #InvolvesExtremeWeather @eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
#bookfacefriday Don't you just love these clever #bookface posts? Just came across this total #bookbod post on author @theladygreer 's FB page from the Siouxland Public Library. Great cover. Great book! Also great for #firstlinefridays and #courtroomsetting: "In the front row sit the survivors."
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
First book I have read by this author. I found it to be written well and enjoyed it a lot.
I read this book months ago but forgot to post. I was reminded of it when I was reading a recent post by a fellow litten.
Caprice is a character who is easy to dislike, so I was surprised at my reaction when she finally died – it still hit me. Leading up to her death, Virginia and Caprice were coming around and learning to get along. There were some other unlikable characters in the book, as well. I listened to the audio, and although initially I wasn‘t sure if the narrator would keep my attention, I was kept interested. Cont in comments...
I didn‘t love this one as much as everyone else did.. I wanted more Arctic adventure and less courtroom antics. I was entertained but not especially engaged.
"In the front row sit the survivors." This evocative first line sets up a chilling tale. In 1854, Virginia Reeve stands trial for the murder of rich & spoiiled Caprice Collins, one of the adventurous women who failed to return from their quest to discover Sir John Franklin's lost expedition. Macallister keeps us on edge in the #courtroom & the frigid North, amid the specter of The Very Bad Thing. #SavvySettings @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Eggs
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️This historical fiction was very intriguing. It‘s a dual timeline between the Virginia Reeve trial and the all women Arctic expedition of 1853.
Made a triumphant return to the library, after not going for over a year. Now I‘m curled up in my fuzzy blanket and considering what to start. Or whether or not to continue with my current reads. I also don‘t feel super spiffy so I‘m totally taking a lazy day.
Thank you @Mitch for my lovely #bestof2021 treats and books. I haven‘t had these books on my radar but reading the blurbs I‘m excited to start them both. I love fancy socks, baths and cuddling up with a good book and a hot water bottle so your gifts are perfect! Wishing you a wonderful 2022 💗
I'm going to finish posting these early so as not to carry them over into 2022. Sorry @Andrew65 for jumping ahead! 😬

This was an intriguing tale which nodded at both The Terror and the Donner party. Plus Greer Macallister's writing is fantastic.

This books is starting off well! What a great list of characters - this could double as a nineteenth century careers department list for women! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
It's the mid-1800s, Virginia is on trial for murdering one of the 12 women she set out on a rescue mission in the North American Arctic with.
Alternating between the trial and the events in the past, the story shows strong female characters who are struggling against and within the society's boundaries.
@TheKidUpstairs, I really liked it.
@theladygreer, I felt the Arctic cold creep into my bones.
Just saw @TrishB's post about reading at the hairdresser's. Would have liked to do that yesterday, but there was no time to read. I only went in to get 20cm/4inch cut off, no colour, no perm.
But I started reading the tagged book on my way to the shop. It's my first by @theladygreer. Thought I should read more #LittenAuthors.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ (...I guess it's only fitting that my first review after disappearing from Litsy for two years would be another Greer Macallister since that was my last review here! 😂😂) A very enjoyable book!
I enjoyed this, although perhaps fewer surprises for me than for other readers because I have read a fair bit about the Franklin expedition already. I second Macallister‘s recommendation of Fatal Passage, by Ken McGoogan, for further reading.
@TheAromaofBooks this was my #DoubleSpin for February 2021! Better late than never 😂

I'd highly recommend this tale of an ill fated Arctic expedition. Gripping plot, intriguing characters.
@Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
Virginia is tasked by a wealthy woman to lead a female only group into the arctic to try to learn the fate of the woman‘s husband. Not all of their number return, plunging Virginia into legal trouble. We see the trial unfold alongside the story of the expedition. Great characters, great setting. I really enjoyed this one and definitely think it‘s @theladygreer ‘s best book yet!
High stakes historical fiction following a group of women who defy the expectations of society, themselves, and each other to try and survive the frozen north in search of the lost Franklin expedition. And what happens when they don't all come back. @theladygreer deftly jumps between the expedition, the trial of one survivor, and a past ill fated expedition, without ever losing the pacing that propels you through. I couldn't put it down!
It‘s the first-ever price drop on the ebook of THE ARCTIC FURY! If you love historical fiction about strong women on possibly doomed adventures with a murder trial for good measure, this one‘s for you. $1.99 on all major ebook platforms, April 15 only, one and done. https://www.bookbub.com/books/the-arctic-fury-by-greer-macallister?buy=&ebook_de...
Now that spring is here and the tulips have just started to appear, I figure it‘s a good time to start a book about surviving the cold and dark.
Really loved this book!
Part survival story and part old-timey courtroom drama, this story centers around an all female expedition to the Arctic to search for John Franklin‘s lost expedition...and the aftermath when they don‘t all come back.
I find the historical events that make up the backdrop of this story fascinating (although liberties are taken here) and always enjoy women defying the expectations of their time.
I have a little time to kill before my appointment for the 2nd COVID vaccine...and I really hate needles 😬
Good thing my dearest friend, the Kindle, is always with me!

An all women‘s expedition team braves the Arctic looking for the lost Franklin expedition (true story that the book and tv show Terror is inspired by). The character were remarkable women for their time. I could not put this one down.
Another book club book I put off until almost the last minute. I have until 7:30 tomorrow night.
The virtual book tour for #TheArcticFury continues! I‘ve got tons of fun stuff coming up, and tonight‘s is special — when they told me how many people are signed up, my jaw dropped. This story was AMAZING!! Going back and forth between the murder trial of our main character and the intense expedition that triggered it, it was really hard to put the book down and do anything else. Stupid life/work! I absolutely loved Virginia, Irene, and Doro (3 of the women on the expedition) and even the characters I didn‘t like felt realistic and understandable. Absolutely fascinating adventure!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
An expedition north goes very wrong and the leader of the all female group returns to a court case. Historical fiction and well written.

Immensely enjoyable account of a fictional all-female rescue team sent to find out the fate of the Franklin Expedition. @theladygreer
Nothing like a trip to the emergency vet on a Sunday night. Poor Barkley banged his head really hard and now his eye looks a little funny. It‘s probably nothing but better to err on the side of caution. Now to wait in the car and read my book.
#January2021 TBR I hope I can finish all my buddy reads. I have four that I have to read the physical book, because I could not find them on audio.
Woohoo 🙌🏻 look what arrived @Hestapleton I‘m SOOOO EXCITED 🥰especially since this is #WrittenByALitten @theladygreer 🥳🥳🥳Hannah, you‘ve just brighten my rainy Wednesday 💜Thank you xx #FeastMode
Beautiful cover, amazing book!!! An all female arctic expedition sets out to save the crews of the Terror and Erebus! Can they make it in time and how does the leader of the expedition end up on trial for murder? I adored this book, highly recommend.
💜💜💜
My copy finally arrived! So excited to dig in. Anyone started this one yet? An all female adventure into the Arctic, with disastrous consequences.
I‘m generally a Macallister fan. But, when I began The Arctic Fury, I expected something altogether different. The book sounded like a high-suspense, event-driven plot. Instead, this book propelled like a ship in an ice jam—slowly. It‘s a hybrid of adventure, courtroom drama and character study. And I‘m sad to say it‘s on the low end of “Pick” for me.

This book has broken my heart for a little while, and although I've really enjoyed it I also haven't. I felt for Virginia, who had endured so much and had to make so many hard decisions.
I hope someone reads this and turns it into a movie. Then again, I hope they don't. Either way this is a good pick.
4/5 stars
So far Greer Macallister has never failed to draw me in, in a completely immersive way within her stories. The Arctic Fury will make you feel the frigid cold air in your bones, will make you feel the dedication and commitment of these women. And speaks a lot about our will to survive. #historical #mystery
Well this little purple note on Libro.fm just completely blew my mind. It may not last, but while it does, cheers!
Loving this so far. A cold, wintry story on a cold, wintry day. 💕❄️
