In case anyone is wondering why the book is called Of Mice and Men for some reason, here's why:

"The title is taken from Robert Burns' poem "To a Mouse", which reads: "The best laid schemes o' mice an' men / Gang aft agley". (The best laid schemes of mice and men / Often go awry.)"
(Wiki 19)

Texreader Thank you! I‘d totally forgotten that. I used to quote it all the time. 5d
KennethTolesJr @Texreader No problem! It is a really good quote to use in a pinch. 5d

Wow. So many feelings for such a short book. Not quite sure what I think. I definitely needed a trigger warning about animal abuse 😬☹️😢

Tamra It packs an emotional punch! I recommend the movie too with Gary Senise and John Malkovich. 1mo

For such a short book, this was slow. I thought the description was really good, but it felt so much longer than it was. I see why I didn‘t read this earlier.

Read Banned Books! 🤘🏻 It is a masterpiece of American literature!! I feel like this novel contains a multitude of themes.. but what I found most shaking was the motif of isolation throughout the characters.. And their quest for freedom which remains seemingly out of reach no matter what their position in life is because of the choices they make, they stay unhappy. Five stars for this Nobel Prize Of Literature Winner. #bannedbooks

I know I read this when I was younger but I don‘t remember it at all. I often read ‘above my age‘ so I either didn‘t understand certain aspects of books, or the emotional impact wasn‘t there. I‘ve found that recently when re-reading books such as Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights and Rebecca.

This is one of my favourites so far this year. Thanks to @Caroline2 for sending it to me in a swap last year!

I vividly remember finishing this small, but powerful, novel while sitting in my high school library, trying to hide the fact that I was crying. Lenny who is intellectually disabled travels with George across California working on ranches and dreaming of a place of their own. I love Of Mice and Men and always have!

I like the structure and all the themes and motifs are amazing! So much symbolism in tiny details! The cyclical structure of it ending in the same place it started really drives home the point of nothing changes in this depression state.

Intelligent and meaningfully written characters. It‘s just a very important, well-rounded story.

If this book could be summed up in one emoji, it would be: 😭 I had never read this classic but had heard about it in bits and pieces. The whole time I was reading it there was an impending sense of doom. So sad but well-written, and I‘m looking forward to watching the movie and listening to the audiobook narrated by Gary Sinise. Definitely worth reading. 4⭐️
