Bk7 of July is done. I‘m flying thru these chunksters now! This is the 1st Sanderson wrote for the WOT & it‘s just not the same as Jordan‘s masterpieces(sigh). Don‘t get me wrong,he tries, and Robert did write out his manuscript for how he wanted it to end, he just doesn‘t have the feel for these characters Jordan did. Every time I bought a book from 7 onwards I always said to the cashier”he better not die before he finishes!l🫲🫱 #BookspinBingo👇

Best wheel of time book yet? It was very exciting, a little emotional and the pace feels a lot quicker. Still some dragging points but overall good book.

This is the best book of the series since The Shadow Rising, maybe before. Brandon Sanderson does an awesome job of taking the notes Jordan left and increasing the pacing. Egwene really shines in this book. The events around the White Tower are captivating. Rand's battles are most of the rest of the book, leaving us with heavy foreshadowing into Mat's and Perrin's next missions. Definitely looking forward to the last two books!

Throwback to last night, when I listened to a goodly chunk of THE GATHERING STORM and made ginger cookies with marshmallow crème.

I finished it today, and wow. I didn‘t enjoy the first half quite as much this time, but it gets SO EXCITING as the end approaches! My head‘s a giant gush-fest over big stuff like Verin‘s pivotal moment and Egwene‘s badassery and over small stuff like Mat‘s detailed backstories for his secret mission. #audiobaking

Got through another chunk of THE GATHERING STORM while I played Candy Crush, knit, and put a pot of mushroom & barley soup on the stove. I‘m enjoying the story, but I wish I had more listening time. This is probably the slowest I‘ve tackled a WoT reread.

I‘m also bummed that narrator Kate Reading‘s entering her PBS Lady period. She‘s still got performance sense, but her diction‘s become too round AND too crisp. Sadness.

Normally when a new author steps in to finish a beloved, deceased author's work, the results are pretty uninspiring (see: every Dune book Brian Herbert ever wrote). Luckily, this is an exception to the rule, the best installment since Lord of Chaos, and maybe of the entire series so far. Jordan left enough source material behind that the story is still unmistakably his, and with a three-book limit and the ending already written, Sanderson 👇

Obviously, it is really hard for another author to pick up where the original author left off…..and it was really easy to tell the difference between Jordan and Sanderson‘s writing styles. But, Sanderson does a great job and does credit to Jordan‘s amazing characters and storytelling.

The Gathering Storm has me really excited to dive into the final two novels in the series

Sanderson maintains the integrity of Jordan‘s characters and world while dialing the action and pacing to an 11. This entry is often dark, full of betrayals and death. In that way, the end of the series has never felt more palpable. Yet, there‘s also a fair amount of hope woven throughout. I‘m curious to see how this will all end. #fantasy #wheeloftime

Goal book finished!

Only a 45 page prologue, but a 1070 page book. I blame Sanderson 😂

Now that I'm getting close to the end and plotlines are starting to have big payoffs it's so hard not to just binge until I hit the end. I think Sanderson has done an amazing job at keeping the tone of the series true to Jordan's works. Cannot wait to start the next one.

It‘s a chilly 44° here in Florida and Daisy and I are snuggled up in bed with the next WoT book! I know temperature probably doesn‘t seem that cold to some of y‘all, but I‘m freezing! ?? Very thankful for my electric blanket right now! #DogsofLitsy

Wow!

Look what I found for $0.50 at the Salvation Army! I plan on reading the whole series next year so I have been slowly finding each one used. I couldn't believe this huge hardback book only cost me the change in my wallet.

This was the first book written by Sanderson after Jordan‘s passing and I was wary about how different the series might suddenly seem. But I still enjoyed this book and loved some of the developments and resolutions in this installment. We are racing towards the final battle with only two more books left to read and these characters have come so far and changed so much.

5/5 as good as the last 11! #MountTBRChallenge #theyearofthechunkster

Well, this was serendipitous. I'm almost finished with book 11 in the Wheel of Time series, and my local thrift shop had books 12, 13, and 14 just sitting there. All for $3. It's like someone dropped them off just for me 😂

It feels so good to bust out my kindle and read a thick Wheel of Time book instead of lugging around a large book. #dadreads

Starting(with a heavy heart)Bk12 of #TheWheelOfTimeXmasReread Even if it‘s still a great book,plus a lot of story threads are pulled into place,Sanderson‘s style is just so different from Jordan‘s.He may have the world building & characters already fleshed out for him,but his interpretation of those characters is,I can‘t describe it,they just don‘t have the gravitas of the earlier books.But I love the series enough to persevere.Tai‘shar Jordan.

I love the convergence in my reading between these quotes and a similar theme threaded throughout the LOTR trilogy. #LOTRchapteraday

This was excellent. I set it down for too long in the middle, so I'm having a hard time accurately evaluating the book as a whole, but I'm definitely basking in the glow of the last third of the book! I loved the developments in Egwene's storyline--SUCH a fantastic, strong female character.

This marks one more book completed for my "finish those series" goal! I have two more books left in this series, and hope to finish by the end of the year.

After that LOTR-post binge, I thought I'd diversify my posting a bit... with a note on another epic fantasy series I'm in the middle of... 😜 I'm nearing the end of volume 12, and the last couple hundred pages have drawn me in again because of how much awesome Egwene material there is. Seriously, Egwene is my fave. Strong, wise, powerful, and undefined by any man (as well as unwilling to let any men get in her way!). And Rand is breaking my heart.

I had hoped there would be less breast-related arm-crossing in this volume, with Brandon Sanderson's influence/writing/compiling... but here we go again. 🙄
