Is Your Mama a Llama? | Deborah Guarino

Pickpick

Is Your Mama A Llama? written by Deborah Guarino and illustrated by Steven Kellogg is a sweet F picture book your students will enjoy, especially during a S activity. It tells the story of a curious llama that learns all about different animals. This is a go-to book for children to read and enjoy in your elementary levels classroom libraries. #UCFLAE3414F19

karlasanabria1 The link shows relevant teacher resources for this classic picture book, https://www.rif.org/literacy-central/book/your-mama-llama. The UDL Guideline would match with this story is building fluencies with graduated levels of support for practice and performance (5.3). The best ESOL Strategy would be teaching think, pair, and share strategies in cooperative groups (10). 3d

Deadly Class Book One | Rick Remender

I like big books and small dogs and this comparison brings me great joy.
I went browsing the library last night and went down a section of manga/graphic novels/comics that I don‘t normally explore and found this honkin‘ huge graphic novel collection! I‘ve not read Deadly Class before but the art and storyline drew me in immediately!

Lots and Lots of Zebra Stripes is an engaging NF picture book written and photographed by Stephen R. Swinburne. I think this book would be used very well as a RA in a class grades K-2, and you can incorporate it easily into science lessons! I love this book because of the beautiful photography in it.

katiehamlin The book is about all of the patterns that are found in nature, whether it be on animals, plants, or in the landscape. It encourages students to look for these patterns while showing vivid photos of some of the ones that exist! #UCFLAE3414F19

katiehamlin The EL strategy I would use with this book is 39, have students prepare collections of science objects. You could have students bring in objects they have found in nature that have patterns on them, or they could go home and take photos of things in nature that have patterns on them and bring those photos in. It‘s a good way to get students hands-on involved with the topic of the book! 6d
katiehamlin The UDL principle I would use is 1.1, offer ways of customizing the display of information. This is good for this book because you can use the activity I previously mentioned (students bringing in objects and photos of patterns they have seen in nature). These are ways students can choose how this information is represented and displayed through the objects and photos they bring in. 6d

katiehamlin Here is a link to a video by Wiz Science on patterns in nature! I think it‘s a cute way to have more visuals of these patterns to incorporate into the lesson plan. https://binged.it/2WWedkM

The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear is a MF picture book about a mouse who discovers an enormous strawberry that he wants to keep for himself and away from a big hungry bear. This book is great in how it teaches children the importance of sharing. Would recommend for a young classroom.

MarkZalewski The UDL principle I would apply for this would be Foster collaboration and community (8.3), as the story teaches about sharing and a sense of community 3w
