Thank you @TheWolfbehindTheEyes for my #HHS gifts and @wanderinglynn for organizing 😊 I did open this last night but unfortunately one of the candles had smashed in quite a spectacular fashion and it took ages to get all the little glass shards off of everything 😣. I have a little boy who loves Harry Potter so he will love the Fawkes! Happy Halloween 👻 🎃 🧙🏻

This had one of the most unlikable main characters I've ever read. She's arrogant, self centered, reckless which teenager I get but not when your entire community is on red alert because of a possible killer.

The plot and pacing weren't great, there was a lot of focus on the ex/new romance and not enough about the killer actively trying to murder them.

I had kind of a witchy day today. I was feeling really depressed yesterday, so my wonderful husband took today off to spend the day with me. He bought me some fall flowers, and I got a couple of fun books for myself. We also went to my favorite local witchy shop where we bought coffee, and I bought this pendulum. I‘ve been wanting a new pendulum for a long time, and I picked this one. Or maybe it picked me. 🥰🖤🍁🍂 #BookHaul

A fast read but I‘m not overwhelmingly “charmed.” While the characters feel authentically YA, & strongly-principled & motivated by justice, they don‘t feel fully fleshed-out. The cover descriptions, “the hot ex”, “the teen witch”, “the BFF” etc. kind-of feel like all there is. I guessed the villain, though I wasn‘t convinced they were acting with as much conviction as was ultimately revealed. A complete story that sets itself up well for a sequel.

This book was so good! I wasn‘t expecting it to be this good. I loved the strong primary and secondary female characters who are all unapologetic about their personalities, which is something I think is good for teenagers and adults. The plot was well executed. There is a lesbian romance, but it‘s not the root of the problem, which I liked. I wish there was more diversity in race though.

This YA book was perfect for October. Hannah is an Elemental witch who has to team up with her ex-girlfriend, Veronica, to find a Blood Witch, who is creating havoc in Salem. This was s fun book and I liked Hannah‘s narration, including her relationships, her family, her magic, her friendships, and her struggle. I appreciated the diversity in the sexuality of the characters (cis, trans, bi, queer).

Hannah thinks that the only thing she‘ll worry about is dealing with her exgirlfriend. And then a blood witch has maybe settled in Salem, MA.

I really enjoyed the first 2/3, but the last 1/3 was rushed, with so many things, and such an abrupt ending that I had no space to process. There wasn‘t as much actual magic as I had wanted, and I wish the setting of Salem was explored more.

But this was a fun story with great representation! 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑

I really wanted to like this book, and I did more than The Babysitter‘s Coven, at least. I loved the LGBT representation, although I hope we get more Cal in the sequel. The reason it‘s so-so for me are 2 major things and 2 minor: 1) Veronica is the MOST ANNOYING character on the planet. That, and she doesn‘t respect boundaries AT ALL. No means no, unless you‘re Veronica, and then there‘s no such word. 2) I‘ll put below bc spoilers.

I was really excited for These Witches Don't Burn and it was a very fun and cute book but not anything special. This would have gotten a better rating from me but one of the characters managed to annoy me so damn much that she brought the rating down. Also I guessed the mystery from the beginning so there was that as well. But it was still fun and I do plan to read the sequel at some point.

Blood witches, casters and elementals, oh my! Our MC is Hannah-an elemental witch. She lives in Salem and has issues keeping her identify a secret. All female love triangle, witch hunters, and mystery galore. This book gets darker as it progress and while much of it is light and easy there are some tough scenes.
This book has some great twists and an awesome cast of mostly LGBTQ characters. I am looking forward to the sequel.

The book is set in Salem, Massachusetts.

Does the last name mean anything to anyone? Can‘t wait to see if this is foreshadowing.

I enjoy YA novels. There‘s something always a bit magical about them (no pun intended here). One of the things I ask myself when I‘m done is, “Would teenager me like this book?” And the answer here is yes.

These characters were so real. They felt like teenagers to me. And made decisions that were believable for teenagers. Sometimes adult authors muck this part up. Not here.

This book was interesting and fun and I was always wanting to read more.

This was a fun read. I enjoy witches and lesbian love stories. It did make me roll my eyes a few times, but I still found it charming and look forward to the sequel ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Just finished this and I really liked it. It was a super quick story and I loved it. I loved the romance, it was was so cute to watch develop. I also liked the magic system. Will definitely check out the sequel next year.

A cute read in the lead-up to fall full of queer witches trying to stop a series of threats terrorizing their town, from blood witches to witch hunters. I liked the magic lore and the characters. Story seemed to lag at times but overall a really enjoyable read that even managed to surprise me a few times with unexpected twists. And I'm always here for a good witchy read!

Hannah is a queer teen elemental witch trying to move past a breakup when events start happening in Salem which could threaten her, her family, and her coven. It‘s a bit slow to start and the cover is awful, especially considering how dark it gets, but I enjoyed it. It‘s not getting much Litsy love and I‘m not sure why, but I look forward to the next book.
