These Witches Don't Burn | Isabel Sterling

I've got a tiny human now who takes up a lot of time and energy, so I'm embracing #audiobook life again. Really enjoying this one so far.

The Duke I Tempted | Scarlett Peckham
Pickpick

Really enjoyed this one. Was expecting a much steamier read for a historical romance with BDSM elements (and there was some, yes). Fun marriage of convenience story. Will happily read more by her.

Really feeling #autumn this morning with my witchy reading, maple spice latte, and apple cider donut. This is my time of the year.

Internet Famous | Danika Stone

Sunday morning porch reading in the coolness after the storms. Like All the Feels, this new Danika Stone novel deals with online fandom and friendship, but with a subplot of the darker side of fandom. Had to make myself put it down last night to get a decent amount of sleep. #bookstagram

Enjoying a rainy day on the balcony with an intriguing book and tea. Having devoured Dennard's Witchlands books, I'm exploring her backlist.

Squeaking in a bit of reading before work with this charming elementary-level biography of Ruth Bader Ginsburg by Debbie Levy. The theme of dissenting and resisting against limitations thrown in one's path is appealing to all ages and even includes little flashes of humor. Hand this one to a kiddo looking to write a report about an influential woman (or do like me and pick it up for yourself!). Loved it. #feminist #biography #juvenile

Powerful, suspenseful book, part issues novel, part thriller. I was hooked from the beginning though a bit let down by the very last chapter.

Oof. This is hard to read at times, as we see the women suffering and dying from radiation poisoning while it's brushed under the rug or denied, but it reads like a legal thriller and would probably be a compelling book club pick for groups that like non-fiction and women's history. #arc #nonfiction

Loving this. It's got the drollness of Patricia Wrede with a wit and heart all its own. I have a feeling it's going to wring some feels out of me soon... #kidlit

When the Moon Was Ours | Anna-Marie McLemore
Pickpick

This may be one of the most surreal, ethereal, heartbreaking, occasionally unsettling, and beautiful things I've read. Need to own this one so I can read and re-read and mark favorite passages.

Enjoying a day off with my reading buddy and a lovely, queer bit of #fantasy. Loving this snapshot of San Francisco and the people who find acceptance there. Trying to make my reading this year some combination of less white, straight, and/or male.

A Monster Calls | Patrick Ness, Siobhan Dowd

"...like a circle had opened around him, a dead area with Conor at the center, surrounded by land mines that everyone was afraid to walk through."

Shiver. Yes. I forgot that aspect of living with a family member with potentially fatal illness. It's why I kept home life and public life starkly separate.

I adored The Fell Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making, so it was a really tall order for this to measure up. It's a little bleaker than its predecessor, but it won me over in the end.

Necessary reading for white allies. This loosely organized collection deals candidly with what it means to be black in America, where even an evening walk is fraught with danger from the perceived threat a black man poses.

Read for book club, wasn't too impressed. Protagonist lacked initiative for entire book. Maybe the movie is better?

I've heard West is great at fluffy ya contemporary romance, and this absolutely left me rooting for the protags and smiling the whole time. Perfect for this last week.

Wake of Vultures | Lila Bowen
post image
Pickpick

I think my reading drought might finally be broken with Lila Bowen's Wake of Vultures. Creepy weird west horror with shapeshifters, monsters, and a delicious dash of gender identity confusion, my own personal catnip. This is the west as we don't usually see it depicted--not just the monsters--but in whose stories are being told. Absolutely loved it!
