Marjorie Glatt feels like a ghost. A practical thirteen year old incharge of the family laundry business, her daily routine features unforgivingcustomers, unbearable P.E. classes, and the fastidious Mr. Saubertuck who iscommitted to destroying everything she's worked for. Wendell is aghost. A boy who lost his life much too young, his daily routine featuresineffective death therapy, a sheet-dependent identity, and a dangerous need toseek purpose in the forbidden human world. When their worlds collide,Marjorie is confronted by unexplainable disasters as Wendell transformsGlatt's Laundry into his midnight playground, appearing as a mere sheetduring the day. While Wendell attempts to create a new afterlife for himself, heunknowingly sabotages the life that Marjorie is struggling tomaintain. Sheets illustrates the determination of a young girl to fight, even when all parts of her world seem to be conspiring against her. It provesthat second chances are possible whether life feels over or life is over. Butabove all, it is a story of the forgiveness and unlikely friendship that canonly transpire inside a haunted laundromat. "Brenna Thummler's firstoriginal graphic novel is a reason to celebrate. She announced herself as anartist to reckon with when she illustrated Mariah Marsden's adaptation of Anneof Green Gables. Now she's illustrated her own story of ghosts and family, loneliness and laundromats. I'm sure you'll be captivated, and as eager as I amto see what comes next!"--Brian Selznick, author of Wonderstruck and TheInvention of Hugo Cabret

After the loss of her mother, Majorie‘s father shuts down and she tries to manage the household and the family‘s laundromat on her own. Wendell is a ghost in a sheet and he accidentally creates problems for Marjorie at first. I love the color palette used in this graphic novel. The story is sad at first so the colors really suit it. I did think the villain was a little cheesy, but overall enjoyed this one. #screamathon

A pick- for this MG graphic novel. Marjorie‘s story, trying to cope with the death of her mother and her father‘s depression, was great. Wendell‘s story, as a new ghost not fitting in and escaping to the human world, could have used more depth. The villain was hard to swallow, thus the minus. Still a good (if not great) and quick read.

Decided to start one of my graphic novels with breakfast...1 page in and already so relatable. Though I definitely hate laundry way more than ghosts 👻

I liked the ghost world art more than the living world art but overall I liked the story and recommend it for October.

I realize that I forgot to post this one! To be quite honest, I loved this graphic novel. From the aesthetic and feel of the book to the story of loss, confidence, and triumph, I can't express in words just how much I loved it. I would even venture to say this might be on book that I would be willing to re-read again and again.

It was a good book. The illustrations were okay but what notched it up to a 3 was the Wendell and the ghosts. I absolutely loved all of them and their story more than the mopey sad girl one. I mean 95% of the book she is sad, mopey and not happy. Sigh. Ending was great, made up for the beginning of the book.

When adults try and help a struggling teen 🤦 it's always the 'let me know' laziness that leads to spiraling mental health troubles. Oof! I love that this graphic novel shares genuine problems.

A cute, heartfelt graphic novel that made me sentimental about both laundry and ghosts. Love how the ghost world is envisioned in this and loved the exploration of grief and friendship with a supernatural twist.

I read the #freecomicbookday short for this graphic novel and liked it enough to read the full story. It was cool but I found myself a little annoyed with the main villain, mostly because there was an easy out that no one took.

A sweet middle grade graphic novel about loneliness and grief - the story is very simply told. The artwork is wonderful.

This was a cute, sometimes sad but mostly sweet middle grade graphic novel about loneliness, grief, and finding connections with other people. And also about ghosts in a laundromat 👻

Some light reading through the night while feeding the little one. This was very cute and heart warming. It was fun to read it snuggled in a baby blanket with all the yummy baby laundry and baby smells. 💙

When her father falls into a depression after her mother's death, it's up to Marjorie to keep the family laundromat business and the home going, all while dealing with a slimy guy trying to steal the business out from under her, mean girls at school, she herself coming to terms with her mother's death, and Wendell - a little ghost in a sheet. Sad and cute, with pretty artwork.

This find was an impulse buy discovered while waiting for my son to look at toys one day at WalMart. The illustrations are amazing and the storyline is meaningful and memorable. It‘s about a 13 year old girl, Marj, who runs the family laundromat following her mother‘s death while her absent father battles his own grief with “special coffee” and sleep. Wendell, a lonely ghost, haunts Marj‘s laundromat and desperately wants to be her friend.

Not a bad story that can open the way to talking about loss and grief. It seems a little lacking in development but I think for youngish readers that‘s probably ok. I did like that ghosts are given sheets and there‘s a connection between the two main characters that‘s kind of sad.

Meh, just ok. I feel like I should like it, but I didn‘t. I never cared about the protagonist, even though I should sympathize with her. The dynamics between characters were shallow and hard for me to believe. I might have liked it when I was younger though.

A very cute and sweet book about a 13 year old girl who runs a laundry after her mother dies and father shuts himself due to grief. She encounters a ghost one day and things start taking an interesting turn.
The illustrations are so gorgeous. The start is a bit slow but it picks up pace soon.

I really liked the story between Marjorie & Wendell, that they were able to see the good in one another and work together. They didn‘t have to be afraid of one another, as they both were just trying to find their place in the world. The fact that sheets could be anything now...I guess we‘ll find out.

Brenna Thummler does it again with her illustrations! Well done! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is a middle grade graphic novel about grief. It centers around a thirteen year old girl that lost her mother and her father is overcome with grief and he has shut down. Marjorie is forced to carry the weight of the family business and household chores along with the day to day of being a teenager. The story has a fun supernatural element with Wendell the ghost. The story didn‘t blow me away but the art certainly did. It is just beautiful.

4⭐️It‘s a depressed color palette in cool greens and blues. It fits the story as Marj is depressed. She‘s a teenage taking care of her brother, father, and the family laundromat after her mother's passing. And an conniving neighbor is doing his best to put her out of business. Thrown into this story are ghosts in sheets. I found this book sad and lonely to begin with, but you make the trip with the characters to finding a happier tomorrow.
