🤦♀️I‘ve been looking for my copy of The Summer Wives for a while. My niece finally found it! She also has my copy of The Glass Ocean - it got wet. Ugh!
My first Beatriz Williams book! And I have to say, she‘s a good writer and has well developed storylines. Her historical accuracy is interesting and it doesn‘t dominate the storyline. This book reminds me of The Boston Girl, Susanna Kearsley, Sarah Addison Allen, Maeve Binchey, and Kate Morton.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Summer is for reading Summer Wives! Williams draws you into the story so gently, bewitchingly, and completely that time stops until it‘s hours later—you pop back into reality and realize you‘ve finished it in 1 sitting
A gift from the fabulous @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
Had a hard time getting into this one and the multiple timelines threw me a bit, but it picked up enough for me to finish it. By the end I was totally engrossed. A good summer read and another one knocked off of my #MountTBR and botm backlog. ⭐⭐⭐.5/5
A good listen for this past week. I really enjoyed her writing however not a scandalous as i had thought. A little bit of Gray Gardens and a little bit of Gatsby.
Week 5 of #bfcr2 and I‘ve been busy trying to keep my commitment. @wanderinglynn @WriterAtHeart @Econaghan @BookishBelle @jmtrivera @Honeybeegirl @laura311 @crazyspine
Pick!! Entertaining story with twists, romance, danger. Read the entire book in one sitting on a long plane ride, which made the experience even better. Will definitely read more Beatriz Williams!!! Can‘t wait to get my hands on her latest.
Thanks, @WilliamMorrowBooks !
This is classified as a historical fiction in most places but I would not call it that. To me it's more of a literary fiction family drama with a little bit of romance and mystery thrown in. It was entertaining to listen to. Note: language, explicit sexual scene, and violence
Reading poolside 😎
@Mynameisacolour this is finally headed back to you tomorrow with my apologies for the lateness.

I loved this book. A great summer read. Well written, highly entertaining. Sad that is finished. I loved the characters
#Riotgrams #Day15 #Freebie
These three are all freebies I won from giveaways on Litsy!
Between a pick and a so-so for me. By the end of the book I was bored and ready for it to end, but I did enjoy the story. The fictional Winthrop Island that‘s the setting for this book is based on Fisher‘s Island, which is a location my husband and I have sailed to. I enjoy connections like that so that part was a bonus for me.
Finally home from vacation and everyone is so exhausted. @HufflepuffGirl90 this will be coming your way tomorrow. @Mynameisacolour I feel bad about the fudgesicle that my 2 year old got on he book. While I was reading on the beach he ran up to me to show me the fudgesicle his friend on the beach gave him. I didn‘t see him coming and he touched the book with it. I can send you a new one if you would like, sending this one out tomorrow.

I‘m reusing this picture because I love it and I love Beatriz!!
Set in 1951 and 1969 💚💚💚
It‘s that time of year when I lounge out in the harbor reading on a boat. My favorite time of year!
⭐⭐⭐ 3/5
I wasn't sure what I was reading for a while, which made it difficult to get into. The story is one we've all heard before of the drama from the upper and working classes mingling. I enjoyed the story overall but the writing could have been less choppy, and it contained odd descriptions... sometimes too many flowery adjectives, going on for most of the page, to sometimes not enough adjectives to tell what was happening.
“You must find whatever ugliness there exists within him and have the courage to extract it, like a bad tooth, or if it cannot be extracted to actually journey inside him and gather the ugliness in your arms for metamorphosis, by the strength and the purity of your love to make him #beautiful again.”
All of her covers are so #Beautiful ❤️❤️❤️

I gave this a good try, but tonight I just couldn‘t get myself to pick this up for more than about 5 minutes at a time because it was so boring. The characters were all flat and formulaic, I didn‘t care about any of them because there was nothing THERE to care about. I wasn‘t going to read another 200+ pages when I gave no fucks at all about what happens to any of these people. DNF
TBH I don‘t have very high hopes for this one, based on the synopsis and reviews, but I‘m trying to clear out the books that have been on my TBR shelves the longest (got this in July of last year) so it‘s getting a shot. We‘ll see! 🤷🏻♀️
Giveaway! Littens, just for you - everyone who registers my May 8th will receive a trade paperback copy of THE SUMMER WIVES by Beatris Williams. This New York Times bestseller was all over Litsy last year when it burst onto the scene in hardcover - if you have had it on your wish list since then, now‘s your chance! https://forms.gle/ud65beZbjmhJ7akh8
Webmd says the best way to get rid of the pain in my foot is to elevate it, so I spent a lazy afternoon reading my #lmbc book. Great pick @Mynameisacolour !
I can't figure out why I keep coming back to this author. I'm consistently slightly disappointed with the stories, but then I borrow another one anyway. 🤷♀️
4.5 ☆ 👍🏻 This is now my 2nd Beatriz Williams novel I‘ve read (enjoyed more than Cocoa Beach) w/another on my home bookshelf that I‘m MOST definitely adding to my April reading list. TSW has 3 storylines spanning the 30‘s, 50‘s and 60‘s full of mystery, family drama + romance and centers around Miranda who arrives back on the island in 1969-18yrs later. 🌊⛵️

A great day for #bookmail. #litsylove from @IndoorDame and @kspenmoll plus month 2 of #lmbc from @Mynameisacolour
@Littlestbookshelf I‘m mailing your #lmbc book this afternoon!
This started out a little slow, and the multiple timelines got a bit confusing at times, but eventually I got sucked in and had to finish it today. It had its schmaltzy moments for sure, but I look at this more like a good summer/beach read and a well-done soap opera. I enjoyed it! 4⭐️

Here is my #botm stack that I‘m way behind on! I‘m going to be doing a marathon of sorts starting next Monday to see how many of these I can read in the next 3 weeks. Anyone who wants to join me is welcome! #marathon
P.S. Please tell me I‘m not the only one who has a stack like this! 😱 #ihaveaproblem
OoOoO...!! This is good so far! Going to spend this gloriously sunny afternoon curled up by the window with this one.💚🌞😎 #lmpbc
Reading this one on a cloudy day before I go back to work tomorrow 🙁 and trying to immerse myself in the world of summer. My last book also took place during summer so guessing that is on my mind!
Getting started on my #lmpbc pick tonight! Really excited for this one 💚🤓💚
”...you never do suspect what inconsequential event will change the course of your life.”
A few options for #LMPBC they are a little all over the place but do you ladies see any that you would like to read? If not, don't be shy there are more to choose from😅 @Littlestbookshelf @Bookwormjillk @HufflepuffGirl90
I liked this romantic mystery MUCH more than I expected. The novel is told in alternating times and by focusing on alternating characters' experiences. We see Miranda, the protagonist, arrive on the isolated New England island where (in 1951) her relationship with her mother ended, where she fell in love, where she gained and almost immediately lost a stepfather. (continued in comments)
This book has been on my TBR since summer! I‘m enjoying the beachy, summery scenes. I‘m trying to decide whether I prefer it in print or audio. The leaps in time & occasional shifts of perspective are a little hard to follow because I tend to zone out when listening. Side note: Mabbie is actually fervently licking the spine of the book for some mysterious reason, I just chose a pic where her eyes are closed so she looks cuddly, not crazed!
It's here!!!🎉🎉🎉
Thank you so much Bri!!! @LoverofLit . I've really been wanting to read this one and the card is lovely! 💛💛💛
Thank you to @TheBookKeepers as well for putting on this swap! 💖💖💖

Riveting! I will read more of hers. Warning: there is some graphic content & quite a bit of language.
⭐⭐⭐✨/⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
A book with no chapters, unusual chapter headings, or unconventional numbered chapters - #pop19
There were holes in the plot and problems with the narrative and it was still completely delightful. It was a soap opera of a book. Having grown up in New England, the island and its culture were wholly familiar and that added to the fun. An enchanting setting, complicated people and relationships, and a trip back in time combined to make this great fun. The problems are there but on the whole didn‘t detract too much from the experience for me.
1) the tagged book and The Address by Fiona Davis and Shadow Play by Barbara Ismail. All new to me authors.
2) Non fat latte
3) Cinnamon shortbread Frappuccino
#weekendreads @rachelsbrittain
The book seemed like a promising read, with the premise being filled with lots of drama, Miranda Schuyler returns to Winthrop Island, after an incident had caused her to leave the island behind.
It kept me interested in parts, but at times i felt like DNF'ing this book. The writing felt slow and none of the characters were impactful, you feel interested enough to finish the book, but it's not a memorable book.
