February the fifteenth is a very special day for me. It is the day I gave birth to my first child. It is also the day my husband left me...I can only assume the two events weren't entirely unrelated. Claire has everything she ever wanted: a husband she adores, a great apartment, a good job. Then, on the day she gives birth to their first baby, James informs her that he's leaving her. Claire is left with a newborn daughter, a broken heart, and a postpartum body that she can hardly bear to look at. She decides to go home to Dublin. And there, sheltered by the love of a quirky family, she gets better. So much so, in fact, that when James slithers back into her life, he's in for a bit of a surprise.

August #bookspin

Ummm... I never even started my July bookspin, I‘m still in the middle of moving ,thankfully the end is in sight, and all my books are in boxes but sure, let‘s do August #bookspin 😜

Bklover Good luck with your move! 3y
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! Hopefully the moving wraps up soon - it's always such the process!!! 3y
mrp27 @Bklover Thanks, it started rough but ending smoothly! 3y

mrp27 @TheAromaofBooks Thanks, and me too! 3y
TheAromaofBooks The first five Christmases my husband & I were married were spent in five different houses because we moved every year 😂 But we've been here since 2014 & I'm already dreading what will happen if we ever move again because we have soooo much more stuff now! It's amazing how it piles up. Maybe I just need to pack everything & pretend I'm moving, then unpack it again! 3y
mrp27 @TheAromaofBooks Wow! Five times! I absolutely hate moving, mostly because my most recent moves have not been by choice but circumstance. My worst move was moving cross country from New York to California. That was stressful! The one positive that I do like about moving is the purging and pairing down of possessions. Moving has been a good reminder that possessions come and go and they are just things. (edited) 3y

Despite feeling a bit dated (1995 wasn‘t big on #bodypositivity), “Watermelon” was downright refreshing. It‘d make a great beach read!

Keyes‘ writing is the perfect cocktail of humor, *bitterness* (let‘s be honest about how we‘re all feeling lately 😅), and, ultimately, the sweetness of hope.

The ending‘s a bit abrupt & neat...but I‘ll definitely be reading more romances by this author.

vlwelser Rachel's Holiday is my second favorite by this author, but it's not really a romance. If you were looking for recommendations. Lol. 4y
monalyisha @vlwelser I‘ll check it out! 😉😎 4y
monalyisha @vlwelser Have you read her most recent? I‘m interested to see how certain sensibilities are updated for a 2020 audience! 4y
vlwelser It's good. It's probably more what you're looking for. I have been reading them as they come out so I may not have noticed that the earlier ones are a bit dated. 4y
vlwelser Also, there's a movie. Watermelon, that is. It doesn't follow the book exactly but it's cute. 4y

Second book finished for #JubilantJuly Readathon. I love the author‘s style. Read other books in the series and this is up there with them. Claire is a great character, and love how we get to see her thinking as the book progresses. Pleased to see the changes that came in her character towards the end of the book. Recommended.

GloVerdino Love those Walsh sisters! 4y
Andrew65 @GloVerdino It is a great series with great characters. 4y
Reggie I know I‘ve read this one and can‘t really remember it but I do remember loving that family. And I remember my favorite book dealing with the Walshs was Rachel‘s Holiday. So funny. 4y

Marian Keyes is an author from #Ireland whom I‘ve read a lot over the years. I was recently reminded of her because I came across her Twitter feed (thanks technology!) and I am hoping to read some of her more recent novels this summer. The books of hers that I‘ve read always include some more serious things along with the fun. #LetsTravelJuly

I also took a few photos of the #summersantagoespostal box that I *sent* because I was proud of my shopping & wrap job. Not to toot my own horn or anything...I would NEVER. That‘d be tacky, right? ???

Books are “The Orphan of Salt Winds”, “Midnight at the Bright Ideas Bookstore”, “The Drowning Girls”, & “Gather the Daughters.”

A lovely read. Marian Keyes is one my favourite authors. It's a chick-lit book about a woman left on her own right after she gives birth to her first baby and then goes back to her parent's house to start over. A story about bravery, love, family and all things that melt your heart. Prepare to cry - don't say I didn't warn you 😊

#litsy #watermelon #mariankeyes #bookworm

Reggie I love Marian Keyes. Haven‘t read her in forever but Rachel‘s Holiday was my favorite. 6y

This was fun and I'm glad I read it. I wanted to know how things would turn out for Claire. The husband character was terrible! I could tell this was Marian Keyes first book because I think it included a bit too much of Claire's inner voice. I didn't need every single thought. I skimmed some of that. I am going to add more of her books to my list, especially when I want something light. Another #FreakyFriday pick from @Librarybelle

This was my first Keyes, and I absolutely adored it! Claire gets dumped by her husband on the day she gives birth to their child. What‘s a girl to do? She goes home, to her wacky family. Keyes follows the stories of the #sisters throughout several novels - not a series per se, but some of the books are connected by the sisterhood and various characters introduced in the various books. #150PnPCoverParty

Kalalalatja I devoured Keyes books when I was younger! 6y

On the day Claire gives birth to their daughter, her husband announces he's leaving Claire. Claire undoubtedly would have #tearinupmyheart on repeat. She moves back home with her quirky family to pick up the pieces and move on with her life. It sounds depressing, but Keyes has a marvelous way of finding humor in tragedy. This entire family is hilarious, and Keyes features other sisters in other books. My first Keyes book, & I loved it! #90sinJuly

Robothugs Oh my! That is intense. 😧 I'm glad the author is able to pull humor and goodness out of it. 7y
Librarybelle @Robothugs Keyes does it so well - I've read a few by her and each had a difficult situation, but each of her characters persevered. And making sections light hearted helps create an overall enjoyable read. 7y

I had some problems with the book, probably because I never read anything remotely close to chick-lit, but the book was actually a lot better than I thought it would be. It is a very anti-cliche chick-lit! If you are interested in the genre, or in stories that feature anti-cliche romance, I recommend it. But I don't recommend it so much if you want a deeper reading.
