Vashti Harrison‘s self-illustrated picture book is a beautifully executed look at fat bias and its impact on young children. The text is sparse with the focus on the images of the nameless little girl as she endures the taunts and well-meaning but still hurtful comments from adults. It‘s wonderfully done and very moving such that I am still thinking about it. I‘d definitely read more of Harrison‘s work on the strength of this.

Transcendent, radical, and kind, The Body is Not an Apology deconstructs the damage that our shared delusion of body hierarchies does to our communities.

Taylor gives us a chance of a different way of being, with a hope that it will spread to create a more loving and equitable future.

If I could persuade just a few of you to buy this book, read it and pass it on, I'd be chuffed to bits.

BarbaraBB Thanks for bringing this book up. Radical self love. That would bring us a lot of happiness 🤍 3mo
reading.rainb0w I bought a copy of this book after the first time I read it because I knew I would want to read it again and again. Love it 🥰 3mo

Hooked_on_books I love this book. I read it years ago and kept my copy, which I rarely do after reading a book. But this one is worth hanging onto. Her message is one so many of us, especially women, need to hear and really take in. 3mo
RaeLovesToRead @BarbaraBB @reading.rainb0w @Hooked_on_books It was a really emotional read for me. Horrible how we persecute ourselves and others. But a positive and unapologetic message beneath that is full of hope. 3mo

Please take a moment to read this page about our learned responses of body shame.

"It may not be a memory you can access at all, but just knowing that there was a point in your history when you once loved your body can be a reminder that body shame is a fantastically crappy inheritance.

We didn't give it to ourselves, and we are not obligated to keep it."

Cuilin Oh I love that!!! 🩷 3mo

I‘m so glad this picture book won some ALA Youth Media Awards today! It‘s a fantastic and beautifully illustrated story of how words can hurt, but how we can also work to control our self-image. Many of my students picked this as the Caldecott winner! *Graphic via Little, Brown Books for Young Readers‘ instagram

I wish I would've come across this earlier in my recovery. Even now I felt so seen and understood, at some points I had to stop because what Megan is talking about was exactly what was going on in my mind and life. This book is like a hug from a close friend and I think that's what Megan went for. What I especially love are her tipps to accept and appreciate one's belly more. I really need to do these, since I'm still struggling...

Chrissyreadit do you think good on audio? 5mo
Jari-chan @Chrissyreadit I listened to the audio version read by Megan herself and loved listening to her voice and her message ❤️ 5mo

The Big Bath House | Kyo Maclear

⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐5 ⭐
This book is about the author‘s memories of her time spent in Japan. Where big group baths are common. This story is lovingly told and would be fantastic at story time if Americans weren‘t such small minded people who bring shame to everything. Because this book has illustrations of naked women. It‘s not to glorify and it‘s not to be lustful. It‘s to say bodies are human, bodies are normal. And that being around others bearing your

LibrarianRyan body is culturally relevant. This book is wonderful and it‘s such a shame that some kids will never get to read it. 6mo
