kindergartenkat Yes I like this trilogy better than broken earth - which I also loved. The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms might be my favorite fantasy I've read this year. I can't wait to read the third one! 3w

This is my second Jemison trilogy. I have to say that in neither trilogy did the middle book seem “transitional” or “like filler” or superfluous. Instead, each stands alone as a great book. Very cool 😊

A fantastic follow up to The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms. I look forward to seeing how it all wraps up in the last book. NK Jemisin cannot disappoint (me, anyways 😋🙃).

I‘ve been quietly reading my way towards #25infive since Thursday (I‘m at ~15hrs right now; 🤞🏻to hit 25hrs by tomorrow afternoon), and before I start my next book, I want to take a moment to appreciate my toddler. He has been diligently assisting my #readathon efforts by bringing me All The Books from his bookcase to read to him. Thanks for the support, kiddo!

That ending brought tears to my eyes! That might be one of the best redemption arcs I‘ve read. I was worried at first because I really was looking forward to spending time with Yiene and Naha in book two but I really enjoyed Oree and Shiny journey together. I can‘t wait to start book three.

I had quite a mixed experience with this book, a lot of which was because it had been so long since I finished the first novel in the trilogy. I had forgotten a lot of characters and world-building. But I did find the new protagonist fascinating, as I do Jemisin's gods. Strangely I felt like this really captured me only in the last 50 pages. My main complaint is that for most of the book Oree has things happen to her, rather than her doing things.

CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian One more thing: I would be very interested to hear the thoughts of someone with a vision disability on the depiction of Oree's blindness. 5mo

2/3 finished with the trilogy and, why yes, I‘m having a lovely afternoon.

I‘m feeling a little under the weather, so I turned to Jemisin and green tea rather than getting work done.

Another great book by N.K. Jemisin! I read this one aloud to my partner. Jemisin is so skillful at world building. It's hard to even know what to say about this book - godlings, a magical tree, demons, humans and gods trapped in a human body. Hijinks ensue! Can't wait to start the third in this series!

Having a tough night, not really able to say much about this right now. My mind is just........bleh. Story was good in some ways but confusing and a little convoluted. Liked the world building and dialogue. Characters were hard to keep straight. Will still read the third book though. 3/5 ⭐️

Another riveting tale from N.K. Jemisin. Despite the shift in setting, time and characters, this book has the same sort of feel as the first book did. I flew through it, and actually managed to figure out a few twists as I went. Onto the third book!

This second book in the trilogy is just as wonderful as the first. It‘s the story of Oree, who takes a man into her home without knowing much about him. She is an outsider like he is, with plenty of unexpected backstory and difficulties to overcome. Jemisin is a master of world building and character development. I‘ve already dived into book three.

1. Reading the tagged book. It‘s an epic fantasy, second in a trilogy. I‘m still figuring out how to describe it.
2. See the brand on the flag. B&B Aboard. Love It here.
3. Milk Duds or Caramel M & Ms
4. Technically I‘m the last year of Baby Boomers, but I relate more to Gen X
5. I‘m looking forward to the Super Bowl. Go Eagles!!

N. K. Jemisin can do no wrong. You can tell this is her early writing if you've only previously read her Broken Earth books but you can see the promise. Also I feel like this is more of a companion book to the first, similar to Kristin Cashore's Gracling Realm books.

So, I finally finished reading this book last night. The complexity of the world building remains stellar, good balance of plot/character driven narrative - yet I just can't help feeling that there is something missing. Couldn't truly connect with Itempas, although Oree Shoth and her power did make me marvel on occasion. Regardless, I will read the last book in the series to see where the story takes me.

Presently at one of the oldest restaurants in Innsbruck, the Goldener Adler Gasthof, existing since the 13th century - same resto where King Maximilian, Bavarian empresses, Austrian princesses, along with Mozart, Goethe, and even Jean Paul Sartre dined once upon a long ago. Not a bad place to have lunch.

Lcsmcat That's so cool! My husband once ate at a restaurant on the banks of the Danube that had been open since the 12th century and in that location since the 14th. It puts our US history in perspective. 2y
