Absolutely loving this series. Where I expected a basic space travel science fiction, I got a Greek Tragedy in space! Every character is unique and complicated. The story is emotional. And the settings are magnificent.

Oichi is out for revenge, but then she finds herself mixed up in a much bigger plot than she could ever imagine. Great characters, beautiful scenery, and I enjoyed the references sprinkled throughout. Think Battlestar Galactica meets The Matrix. A little confusing at times but definitely worth the read. 4/5

Did I enjoy this book? Well, I deprived myself off an hour of sleep each night before work, and I was up until 3 AM determined to finish it last night.

At first I really couldn't empathize with Tau, the main character, but as the book went on, it became harder and harder to do anything but. His development is painful and thorough, and he drives the plot forward, barreling into any desire to put the book down and go to sleep. 5/5. Awesome book.

Wow.

I didn't start reading this book expecting to immediately love it. And it did start off rather slow for me, but once it got going, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Moreno-Garcia's use of language is stunningly beautiful, as are the fantastically thought out cast off characters. This will break your heart and satisfy anyone who loves an underdog story. Highly recommend!

This is not so much a story about the apocalypse as it is a story about humanity and finding strength not only in yourself but in others. There isn't a lot of action, but what it lacks there it more than makes up for with strong character development and a constant pull between defeat and victory. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoyed Station 11.

Take Jessica Jones without her superpowers and give her a murder investigation at American Hogwarts filled with the cast of Mean Girls, and you have this book. It's funny, sad, and has some pretty great inner dialogue. It's not my favorite by a long shot. But I'd recommend it to fans of mystery and light fantasy.

This was such a great adventure into memory, psychology, and paranoia. The Novella brothers do a great job of not only presenting complex thinking, but they do it in such a way that there is little explaining needed. They advocate critical thinking and research. And they demand we go out and find the answers to life's greatest questions ourselves. I really enjoyed this one.

I'm not sure this book is for everyone, but it's definitely for anyone interested in the history of scientific knowledge. Dr. Moller brings us from the beginning with Euclid, Ptolemy, and Galen, men who contributed to math, astronomy and medicine. From there we follow their manuscripts through a thousand years of prosperity, war, renewal, and full on revival. Truly a fascinating story.

Geeklet That sounds great! 2mo

The world building is fantastic. It has a dark, steampunk feel to it with some really gruesome scenery. The characters, while all interesting, don't seem to develop much except for the MC. I think it could have used more editing. A lot of the narration could have been cut without the story suffering. But it was still entertaining. A good sci-fi/fantasy/steampunk mystery/thriller.

Well the ARC I got turned out to be only half the book, but it is really good. Now I'll have to buy the damn thing next month when it releases. Lol.

Anyway. This book is about as action packed as it gets. Be ready for scene after scene to rush forward at full speed. The only down side is I felt a little lost at some places, but I think that was sort of part of it since the MC is lost. Good, strong characters. Lots of fun. I would recommend.

sudi They look so pretty 😍 2mo
sudi @Ms_T they followed the book upto season 4 and a little but till season 5. They did change some storylines but it was still pretty close to the books. But they had to write season 6,7 and 8 themselves with the story and the final outcome told by GRRM. 2mo
AthenaWins @Ms_T I love the books. Much more so than the show. But it's not for everyone. GRRM tiptoes on purple prose and loves describing scenes in their entirety. It's good for those who like to have a clear picture (sight, sound, feel, taste, and smell). Not so good if you just want the plot to rush ahead. The world building is phenomenal though. 2mo
Ms_T @AthenaWins You make it sound very tempting. It‘s one of those series I‘ll probably buy but keep until just the right time. 2mo

I've yet to find a book from N.K. Jemisin that I don't like, and this is no exception. It's actually my first time reading a collection of short stories. And the best part is that it's inspired me to improve on my own short story writing. I love every character she creates, the worlds she builds, and the messages she conveys. Absolutely recommend for fans of short fiction, fantasy, and science fiction.

The third and final book in Becky Chambers' Wayfarer Series. This one was even more character driven than the first two, if that is even possible. Another emotional rollercoaster with meaningful, believable characters. I caught myself fighting tears a few times. Deep and moving.

Sometimes a character in a book reminds you of someone. And it's just so spot on....
This one character's father reminds me so much of mine. He's impatient, temperamental, constantly worried about his kids, and takes the time to say "I love you."
I cried over one page of prose and dialogue...
