3rd of the series. Tells the story of elderly Rev Ames young new wife, how she grew up, the unlikely marriage. Told from Lila's POV, very different and good

Librarybelle Pretty cover! 1w

This was so good that I read the entire book today! The story was interesting, and I loved how well Toibin wrote it in a way that you could really understand Eilis' thoughts and feelings about leaving her family in Ireland and moving to Brooklyn for better opportunities.

marleed I read this month as well - loved it! 1w
janeycanuck I‘ve had this on my TBR for a while - and a Tree Grows in Brooklyn is making me want to read it. But I‘m going to wait until the buddy read is done, I‘m too likely to get them mixed up if I read them at the same time! 1w

Well, I‘m probably the last person on Litsy to read this. Still early in the book, but it hasn‘t been as captivating as my other reads

But it fits for #onewordtitle — the #January prompt for #readwithMrBook. And I‘m also using it for the #outdoors prompt for the #mandmchallenge2020.

rubyslippersreads No, you‘re not the last. 😄 2w
BarbaraTheBibliophage @rubyslippersreads At least we‘re aren‘t alone! 😌 2w
Scochrane26 It‘s a good book, hope you like it. 2w

This book was in the top of my TBR list for many years. Somehow I used to miss. That‘s why this year I started with this book. My first book for #readingwithmaja #january book with snow on its cover (though it‘s a picture of snow capped mountain!😛) @maich
#readingchallenge2020 #readinggoals2020 #travel

Reagan This book started my love affair with books about mountaineering. It is excellent. 2w
maich Thanks for joining my challenge. I never heard of this book. It is gret you choose it. I'll check on goodreads and waiting for your review... 2w

I made a decision in my mid-20s not to have children. It was 100% the right decision mentally and physically for me, I have no doubts.

But I have an imagination. And I have Instagram full of celebrity and friends‘ kids. They‘re cute, and sometimes I enjoy seeing them.

Then I read a beautiful book like this. If my friends were still having kids, I‘d give it as a gift. Just shows me what the fuss is about. 😁

BarbaraBB Such a lovely review ❤️ 2w
Librarybelle Great review! And awesome for covering multiple challenges! 2w

Cinfhen Beautiful review by the way 2w
Megabooks @Bette Thank you! 2w
Megabooks @Cinfhen thank you! 💜 it was not a tear jerker for me, although I did get misty eyed once. It‘s written more humorously than to really cause a cry. 2w
Cinfhen Ok, good to know xx how you doing today?? 2w
Megabooks @Cinfhen Good!! I‘ve been making progress getting my strength back. 👍🏻👍🏻 2w

Reviewsbylola Kids are definitely a choice that one should weigh heavily. They‘re awesome if you want them, but damn it‘s a lot of emotional labor. 2w
Megabooks @Reviewsbylola I can‘t do the physical or emotional labor of kids. It just wouldn‘t have been good for me. I know there‘s kind of, hmmm, a love beyond what I‘ll understand, but there‘s also difficult parts, too. 2w
Reviewsbylola My husband always tried to warn me about the difficult parts beforehand. I didn‘t listen. 😅 It‘s so worth it if it‘s what you want. But I feel like we live in a society that expects lives to take a certain trajectory, with kids included, and being a parent is something that shouldn‘t be forced on people. Plus, the upside is there are always other people having kids so it‘s not like childless people can‘t get a fix. 😆 2w

These were all the books I finished in January. I read Becoming very slowly, so it was started back in 2018! My other favorites were Bad Blood, The Sun is Also a Star, All-American Boys, and Far from the Tree. Many of these books worked for #Pop2019 prompts. #January was a great start to my reading year.

JenReadsAlot I started Bad Blood on audio today! 12mo
MallenNC @JenReadsAlot It is so good! I didn't do the audio version but I think it would do well in that format. 12mo

These are the books I read from the #NewYearWhoDis favorites swap I did. I was paired with @LazyLimaLife and I enjoyed all of these. The tagged book was my favorite, but All-American Boys was right there with it. I loved this virtual swap, and appreciate @monalyisha for putting it together. #January

monalyisha Thanks! It‘s been a good month. 😊 12mo
MallenNC @monalyisha You should be feeling a lot of appreciation! It was a great reading month. 12mo
