Gingerbread: A Novel | Helen Oyeyemi

Pickpick

Odd, delightful, confusing. I just love Oyeyemi's voice and how she weaves these strange books that are like fairy tales and contemporary stories all at once. There were some parts of this story of 3 generations of women from a maybe fictional country that had me puzzled about what was happening and what significance there was, but also I loved the writing throughout. There's something being said here about immigration that I'm not catching too.

Passionate, heartbreaking, raw, honest. I don‘t have anything coherent to say about these poems, except recommend. #queerbooks #blackbooks

Although this is unfortunately my least favourite of Cole's Reluctant Royals #romance series, I still enjoyed it. Prince Johan's non-binary younger sibling was the best part. I'm not into the playboy/experienced guy and the inexperienced woman dynamic, which is one of the main reasons Nya and Johan didn't really do it for me as a couple. I also normally like the fake relationship trope, but in this book I didn't find it interesting or believable.

An amazing book! My favourite historical by Alyssa Cole. Set in the American civil war, the story is about 2 people with a lot of growing to do. Daniel, a Black man born free in the North, is experiencing PTSD after having been kidnapped into slavery. Janeta is the Cuban daughter of a slaveowner and a former slave; she's been raised to think herself above other Blacks. Their love story and individual journeys are so beautiful and moving. I cried.

Liatrek I loved this one too❤️ such an amazing series! 6mo

My partner and I spent all day yesterday cleaning and organizing and unpacking our new apartment so today I am taking a much deserved day off to do all the things listed on this mug. Also, this book is fabulous so far! #Romantsy #Romance #BlackBooks

Oops checked out a #romance book on my shift at the library today. I loved the first one in this series, and the plot of this one sounds even better! Two spies, one who's a double agent set to betray the other?? #Romantsy #BlackBooks

This book was just as cute as the adorable cover! But I'm bummed her stories about queer and disabled characters only get novellas and the straight abled characters get the novels? Anyway, I really liked this story, which is told half in flashbacks of when the women first met and Fab ghosted Likotsi and when they meet again months later. If you're waiting for the sex scene, you just might have to wait until the end... Also I want to marry Likotsi.

TieDyeDude Have you read anything else by her? 7mo
CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian @TieDyeDude Yep, I've read the first two novels and the other novella in the Reluctant Royals series and also An Extraordinary Union. 7mo
