Trying out Amazon Audible via the free 1 month trial. I've got one credit at my disposal, but I have no idea what I should spend it on. Anyone got any good suggestions that are just too good in audio format to pass up? I want to make sure I use my credit wisely. haha 😄

TIA! 🤗

#audible #amazonaudible #freebooks #icantpick #helpme

monkeygirlsmama Also just noticed there's a special running for President's Day that is $5 off per month for 6 months if you sign up during this promo period. Ooooh decisions decisions. Should I do it? 3y
GingerAntics I‘ve managed to stay far far away from audible all these years. I‘ve shifted away from kindle. Unless you do a lot of audiobook listening, I find it makes more sense to wait for sales through regular services that don‘t charge a monthly fee. 3y
tracy.anne8 I'm not sure if you like autobiographies but Born A Crime and continued to be one of my absolute favorite audiobooks. 3y

lynneamch Even if you've read this one, it's even better listening to Trevor's masterful impressions and accents 3y
lynneamch Another that was even better than reading, because it felt so rich and raw and genuine was 3y
lynneamch Don't know is Frank McCourt's are available, but his Irish accent just charms me even though Angela's Ashes is so heartbreaking. 'Tis is also memorable. Having been a teacher, I especially found this one relatable 3y
monkeygirlsmama @GingerAntics I know what you mean. They charge so much for audio books through the subscription plans. I probably won't actually sign up for the membership, but I'll admit it's tempting. I'm all too happy to try them out though for the free book. 😁 3y
monkeygirlsmama @tracy_anne8 I do. Thanks for the suggestion; I shall keep it in mind. 😊 3y
monkeygirlsmama @lynneamch OOOh @tracy_anne8 just recommended this one to me too. Definitely going on the list for consideration! 3y
monkeygirlsmama @lynneamch This is one I have wanted to read and haven't yet gotten to. Good to know the audio is worth considering. Adding to my pool to choose from. Thanks! 3y
monkeygirlsmama @tracy_anne8 @lynneamch I just realized I already have a copy of Born a Crime on audio. No idea how I forgot about that! haha 3y
GingerAntics @monkeygirlsmama I keep putting that off, because I can‘t figure out if you can have access to that audiobook later if you don‘t have the subscription. I won‘t buy movies or shows from Amazon prime video for that reason as well. 3y
tracy.anne8 Oh nice! Now you have that credit for something else! 3y
tracy.anne8 @GingerAntics Even if you cancel your subscription, you will still have access to all your books. 3y
monkeygirlsmama @GingerAntics From what I gather you get to keep the books you “buy“ with credits, even when you no longer have the membership. They have an upper level membership that allows you to borrow a bunch of audio books as well, and those would disappear from your collection if you end your membership, even if you had added one to your que previously. 3y
monkeygirlsmama @tracy_anne8 Exactly! I went ahead and bought Piranesi which I saw get some good reviews elsewhere here on Litsy. It was one I was already wanting to read, so I decided to just go for it.

What on Earth have I gotten myself into? 🤣😂🤣 How does one choose? Just reading the first 6 lines, it seems Hollander is clearer.
#Dante #Inferno #translation #helpme #mayday @Graywacke

Graywacke Cool. I like the Ciardi. Do not like the Mandelbaum. 😂 Good luck. 4y
GingerAntics @Graywacke the Mandelbaum is definitely the worst. It got too flowery with the language, which seems to muddy the water, in my opinion. I think it‘s between the Hollander and Ciardi for me, but based on just this passage, the Hollander seems clearer. I‘ll continue to compare the rest of the sample for each of those two, but I‘m definitely leaning toward the Hollander. I‘m glad I asked which translation you used. 4y
Graywacke If it helps, Hollander is a husband wife team. Dante is their life and was for decades before they started a systematic translation. I don‘t know anything about Ciardi, but i like that opening - poetic, flows. I think you‘re ok either way. Dante helps his translators because the source material is good 🙂 4y
See All 12 Comments
GingerAntics @Graywacke I saw that it was a husband and wife team. I didn‘t know they were so immersed in all things Dante. All I know about Ciardi is that he‘s a poet. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I really think I‘m going with Hollander. I really only chose the Ciardi initially because that‘s the translation the kids had to use, it was cheap, and I rather like the cover art. That‘s not really a reason to go with that translation, though. 4y
Texreader What a great way to pick this book, by the best translation. I (stupidly) read it in middle school—picking whatever was available at the library. I was always so confused. But I muddled through convincing myself to never read it again! Fortunately I‘ve never had to. 4y
GingerAntics @Texreader I almost blindly chose a translation. I‘m so glad now that I didn‘t. As it turns out, now my choice seems to be ebook or audiobook. They‘re both the same price. I may just end up getting both. 🤷🏼‍♀️ 4y
Texreader @GingerAntics I think I would so you can choose at any one time which makes more sense to you. Btw, it taught me some books shouldn‘t be read by preteens, no matter how smart you think you are—you aren‘t smart enough for Inferno! 4y
GingerAntics @Texreader 🤣😂🤣 absolutely! As a kid that could read well beyond my age group, I encountered a few books like that. Luckily I had some good librarians that helped guide me, but never restricted me. They would tell me they didn‘t think I was quite ready for a book, but if I really wanted to read it, I could. 4y
GingerAntics @Texreader I think it happened twice. Both times they said something along the lines of “see what I meant before? You can read it, but it might not make sense anyway.” Then I figured out it was easier to trust them. 🤣😂🤣 I think the day they found a 7 year old in the medical text section trying to understand death, they knew they were in trouble. 🤣😂🤣 4y
Texreader @GingerAntics Yea!! No kidding!! 😬🤣 4y
GingerAntics @Texreader I almost feel bad for my librarians, now that I think about it. 🤣😂🤣 4y

Has anyone read any of Becca Fitzpatrick‘s books? I keep looking at them, but not sure about them. I would love any thoughts.

#Question #Recommendation #HelpMe #NewToMeAuthor #Scarathlon #TeamStoker @TheReadingMermaid

thegirlwiththelibrarybag It was the rare teen series I finished! I enjoyed them at the time but not sure how I‘d feel about them now (I remember not everyone liking Patch‘s behaviour/attitude towards Nora). They came out a little after Twilight and around the same time as Fallen... 5y
AsYouWish @thegirlwiththelibrarybag I may give it a chance, I mean worst case I don‘t like it and bring it back to the library. I really like YA books, so it may be my new favorite, right?! 5y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @AsYouWish, for sure! You‘ll know pretty quickly if it‘s worth your time ☺️ and if not, there is no shortage of brilliant YA books out there waiting to be discovered 5y

hes7 Haven‘t read any yet, but I‘m planning to get to Black Ice this month. 5y
AsYouWish @hes7 I am trying to decide between Black Ice and Hush, Hush. I may check out both and then decide. 5y

Please help a fellow book nerd out. 😀😀

I just realized my tbr is filled with heavy subjects or thrillers and I really need fun and summer like YA reads.

Thank you for your help!

wideeyedreader Everything Leads to You by Nina LaCour is pretty good, if you haven‘t read that! 5y

Sorry, I am on the desk top version nad it only lets me comment once.
5y
Hestapleton I read the ACOTAR series every summer! YA Fantasy with fairies and romance—it‘s perfect. Start with this one: 5y
Lovesbooks87 Agree with anything by Jennifer E. Smith! Anything by Sandhya Menon, Maurene Goo, The Field Guide to the American Teenager. I also loved The Selection Series and The Lunar Chronicles! 5y
Victoriahoperose Love and Gelato and Windfall are two of my faves. 5y
That-Bookish-Hiker @Mariposa_Bookworm I have read that and loved it! I‘m afraid to watch the movie lol. 5y
That-Bookish-Hiker @wideeyedreader I haven‘t read that one by her. I‘ll add it to my summer tbr. Thank you! 5y

Y‘all, I‘ve been reading this book for literally two months. It‘s not a hard read, but I‘m just not into finishing it. I‘m in a book slump and I need help! #whattoread #bookslump #helpme (also throwback to this internet gem)

Demibom What do you like to read? 5y
looking_for_mikaela @Demibom I‘m so all over the place, usually more of a contemporary drama, with the occasional science fiction splashed in? 5y
tpixie Try something different! The author is a Litten! 5y

looking_for_mikaela @tpixie annnnd it‘s on my list. Thanks for the recommendation! (edited) 5y
tpixie @looking_for_mikaela I like the writing. The 3 sisters were actually real people! I'm reading the second one now 5y
JanuarieTimewalker13 Ok, this often happens to me with nonfiction. Killers of the Flower Moon almost sent me into one but I‘ve introduced Stephen King as a palate cleanser.. 5y
JanuarieTimewalker13 That sounds weird, but KOTFM is so disturbing, and also drawn out, that SK is a welcome change. When you‘re determined to finish a book, sometimes another book “break”helps. Fiction Saves. Lol 5y
looking_for_mikaela @JanuarieTimewalker13 “fiction saves”! 🥰 I love it 5y
JanuarieTimewalker13 Hahaha...yeah, amazing I could come up with anything BC-Before Coffee. It‘s my mental “on” switch. Lol 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage You could always stick to the same characters, but bump to this fictional mystery. It‘s funny and a quick read. 5y
tpixie @JanuarieTimewalker13 #FictionSaves ! I love it!!! ♥️📚♥️ 5y
JanuarieTimewalker13 @tpixie hahaha!! I like the hashtag!! I‘m still plowing through KOTFM. It‘s so disturbing that Bag of Bones is actually comforting (thus far). 5y

MolliesaurusRex

Guys. I‘m about to get REAL vulnerable right now, but I need some serious help/advice/book suggestions... as I‘ve mentioned in previous posts, I have two stepdaughters (ages 5 & 6). As any of you can imagine or know from experience, it is HARD. (Continued in comments) #stepmother #stepmothertroubles #helpme #advice #booksuggestions #cryforhelp

MolliesaurusRex So obviously I deal with a lot of the regular struggles of “you‘re not my mom” and whatever. But 6 also has incredibly high anxiety. Not diagnosed, at least not yet, but as someone with an anxiety diagnosis who has looked back on my own issues as a child and realized that my anxiety was where they stemmed from, I recognize the same things in her. 5y
MolliesaurusRex Lately, she has been throwing explosive fits and become very violent with her father and I. It‘s only with us, though. Not their mother. Not their grandparents. Not in school. Just at our house (or in our car, apparently). It starts the moment she doesn‘t get her way, & it‘s gotten so bad that, following tonight‘s outburst.... 5y
MolliesaurusRex ...my arm is swollen and covered in bruises (luckily that‘s all she could reach; I should also mention that the swelling and bruising is even after ice has been applied). Her mother isn‘t cooperative with us, instead choosing to blame their father for everything because it makes her feel better about the situation. 5y
See All 6 Comments
MolliesaurusRex We‘re getting them into counseling as soon as humanly possible (they‘re currently on 3 different waiting lists and we‘re doing everything we can to turn at least one of those into an appointment), but in the meantime, I need help. We can‘t keep doing this. Neither of us knows what to do anymore. So literally anything you guys have for us will be so incredibly appreciated.❤️ you‘re all an awesome community to be part of.❤️❤️ 5y
Chrissyreadit @MolliesaurusRex please feel free to email me and give me more info. I just saw this. I‘m sure I can give you some resources and strategies, I just need some additional info. (I am a clinical behavior specialist and primarily work with children- all my info would be to tide you over and keep you safe while waiting for counseling though) 5y
MolliesaurusRex @Chrissyreadit that‘s honestly all we‘re trying to do right now. I absolutely will reach out to you. Thank you so so much.❤️❤️❤️ 5y

I need motivation. I'm so ready to bail on this book 😭

I thought I would love it. But I just don't! Motivate me!

CatLass007 Read it some years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. I much prefer the book to the movie. 5y
c.m.reger @JanePratt Reward yourself with a book you‘ve been really wanting when you finish it! 5y
JanePratt @c.m.reger @CatLass007 I think I'm going to listen to it. I've really wanted to read it for years! 5y
CatLass007 Sounds like a good idea! 5y
Lea I took me a lot of tries to get through it. I enjoyed it in the end but it was a push. 5y
xicanti Honestly, I think it's fine to bail. It's a long, long book and there's no point in torturing yourself if you're still not into it after 129 pages. (Or is it 329?) (edited) 5y
c.m.reger @JanePratt I think that‘s a great idea! 5y
JanePratt @xicanti 129 😢 lol 5y
mrsmarch You‘re allowed to not read a classic book, and even to bail on one! Bail away! (I‘m a bad influence.) 5y
JanePratt @mrsmarch let's be best friends 😂 5y
mrsmarch @JanePratt I‘m only doing exactly what your profile says, which is to knock any love story from out your hands so you can expand your horizons. It‘s fate. 5y
JanePratt @mrsmarch lol true 5y
mrsmarch @JanePratt I‘m also attempting to finally read Les Mis on Serial Reader bc my knowledge of classics is dismal. So, maybe I sometimes also give contradictory advice. But if you aren‘t feeling it, pfffft. 5y
