To All the Boys I've Loved Before
To All the Boys I've Loved Before | Jenny Han
Lara Jean’s love life gets complicated in this New York Times bestselling “lovely, lighthearted romance” (SLJ) from the New York Times bestselling author of The Summer I Turned Pretty series. What if all the crushes you ever had found out how you felt about them…all at once? Sixteen-year-old Lara Jean Song keeps her love letters in a hatbox her mother gave her. They aren’t love letters that anyone else wrote for her; these are ones she’s written. One for every boy she’s ever loved—five in all. When she writes, she pours out her heart and soul and says all the things she would never say in real life, because her letters are for her eyes only. Until the day her secret letters are mailed, and suddenly, Lara Jean’s love life goes from imaginary to out of control.

Check-in Week 1: A good start, even if not perfect. I'm going to really work on not being lazy about activity next week (Because I barely made it in time!), and keeping a water bottle handy.

At first, Lara Jean seems so young & naive & dreamy &- okay, I was prob. just like her at 16. Still, it was easy to get impatient w/her & want to say grow up already! As she challenges herself more, she becomes more of a sweet character. I also liked that along w/the romance, Han subtly touches on issues of being biracial, growing up w/a single-parent household, & teen social pressures. In fact, the more I think about the book, the more I like it.

Finished reading The Auschwitz Escape by Joel Rosenberg. So to get over the serious book I read the book tagged. As usual for me the book far better than the movie even though I loved the movie. Such a feel good read

Ok, so our spare room isn't exactly prime material for a romance novel, but this is definitely the bed size where someone would stoically volunteer to take the floor, but we all know how that ends. RELUCTANT SHARING AND ACCIDENTAL CUDDLES!!! Fake dating is another favorite trope of mine, being fulfilled in the tagged title, which I'm currently listening to. @24in48 #24in48 romance challenge

YouBookMe Haha I do love those “Oh no, only one bed, whatever shall we do?” scenes in movies! 1mo
BookFreakOut @YouBookMe They're so delightful, how even when they get in the bed they try to stay at opposite ends but NOPE wake up tangled in warm snuggles that they pretend to not enjoy. 😄 1mo

I just finished this book last night, and it was SO cute!! It was also unexpectedly cool that it was set in Virginia. Hopefully I can continue with the next two books soon! I‘m about halfway through and I just love Peter. Lately I‘m loving characters that initially come across as self-absorbed jerks only to be the nicest people you‘ll know. I‘m sure it‘s because I‘ve known a few in my life.

There‘s just something about warm weather that puts me in the mood to read contemporaries! I‘m not sure how many of these I‘ll get to, as I‘m still working on The Stone Sky, a book of poetry, and I‘m rereading Persuasion and The Importance of Being Earnest for book clubs... not to mention I‘m hoping to get through a bunch of graphic novels for the #eclecticreadathon ...whew 😅 but if not, I think I‘ll get to these at some point during the summer!

I didn't expect to like this book this much! I didn't like it at the beginning but idk, I loved Lara Jean and her innocence. I wanted to read this book because I loved the movie and the characters, and I was expecting to love Peter (as I love him in the movie) but it turned out that I almost hated him. He was a cretin and manipulative, ugh! But yeah I liked the book and I will probably read the next two soon 🙊

This was a cute romantic YA. I saw the Netflix TV series before reading but I still enjoyed both. The story is about Lara Jean who writes letters to the boys whom is in love with. She never posts them. Unfortunately, they are posted and the story follows Lara Jean trying to salvage the situation, her relationships with her sister‘s ex-boyfriend, and her own crush. It is a sweet story and the adaptation is not bad. Quick read.

Like Dumplin', I think I preferred the movie to the book. Obviously, I'm not the target audience. I think having to edit liberally for the screen improves some of these stories.

In particular, I'm not impressed with Lara Jean's immature response to her letters being mailed. The whole Peter storyline was sort of gross (saying more spoils the entire book).

That being said, I *might* read 2nd book if desperate (if nothing better is available).

Prairiegirl_reading I also liked the movie better and the books get worse as they go IMO. 😕 4mo

4/5⭐
I saw the movie first and I loved it. It really goes really well with the book, such a rare gift! Lara Jean is a sweet innocent Junior, who found herself in sticky situation. She falls for the the guy she thought she couldn't. A charmer for sure, Pete begins a fake relationship with a quirky, cute girl he kissed in middle school so they can both "save face". Lara Jean learns how a relationship is supposed to work, and kind of fails big time.

Young Adult contemporary isn‘t usually my thing. But someone very important to me (my niece) asked me to read this one, so of course I had to do it right away. I actually thought this was a very sweet story of a teenaged girl navigating family and first love. I think I‘ll have to tell my niece that I‘ll be reading the rest of the series with her!

⭐️⭐️⭐️ This felt very juvenile at first and took well over 100 pages for the characters and story to grow on me. I enjoy Contemporary YA, but I‘m no fan of love triangles nor “fake” relationships. It was the adorable letter to Lucas that finally convinced me I should care about Lara Jean. A story I thought was just about teen crushes turned out to be a very sweet story about family and major life changes. I loved the ending.
