Anna and the French Kiss
Anna and the French Kiss | Stephanie Perkins
Anna can't wait for her senior year in Atlanta, where she has a good job, a loyal best friend, and a crush on the verge of becoming more. He's taken, and Anna might be, too, if anything comes of her crush back home. Will a year of romantic near-misses end in the French kiss Anna awaits?"Magical. Paris, the City of Lights and Love and the last place Anna wants to be. A story a bit about a coming of age and a lot about people, forgiveness, and honesty. A beautiful demonstration of love and understanding.

Just in time for Valentine‘s Day, romance author Alana Albertson joins me on my book podcast to dish about Anna and the French Kiss! Tune in to hear us chat about everything from cheating love interests and the meaning of home to film adaptations and privilege. We also talk quite a bit about the romance genre more broadly. 🇫🇷💋 Listen at the link in my bio!

Okay, I loved this book. It was funny, sweet & adorable It's one of those books that'll leave you feeling all happy & just so good. I had added it to my tbr because it's so famous but then yesterday I read about it's plot on goodreads and the only phrases that stuck were “in Paris“ & “Étienne St. Clair“ (which is the male lead's name & even his name sounds so fancy and English, you know?) and that's what made me decide to read in instantly. 🍻💚

mavey Ohh this story was sweet!😍Made me fantasize about studying in a Paris Boarding School a lot! Still does, sometimes!😜💗 2y
damselsgotballs @Mavey That's exactly what happened to me.😍I can't stop thinking about what really studying in the city of love would be like! 😂💕 2y

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I really really liked this one. It‘s beautifully written. Anna & Étienne‘s friendship is slow & well developed through out the novel. You can really feel the chemistry building and how deep their friendship grows through out the book. I love how it‘s not rushed & how a sense of “the real world” love get out of it. It feels like real time. Although i wish their romantic relationship had more time in the book I am still so pleased.

paytanmal i‘m so sad that i am done this book. i just loved how well st. clair treated anna. i just really wish there was another at least 100 pages so we could enjoy their romantic relationship side of them :( 3y
mavey I loved the Parisian Boarding School vibes! 3y
paytanmal @Mavey Me too! I was skeptical to read it at first afraid it would be too cheesy. But it was so sweet & well written! Wish I could have the same boarding school experience 3y

mavey @paytanmal I too felt the same way! Hit the right chords! The thrill of first love, angst and confusion of adolescence! I was all heart eyed and starry eyed wishing I too could have the same experience(minus all the drama,of course😉)! Have you read The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson? Loved it when I read it a couple years back! 3y

I completed this in 4 days. An easy read but I found the main character “Anna” just so annoying. She was obsessed and I couldn‘t relate to her in any way. I preferred the male MC and would have liked to have delved into his personal story more. I just wanted Anna to grow up! I loved reading about the Parisian culture though 🇫🇷

A completely, romantically cheesy novel. Which is ironic in that the main character cringes every time her father, who writes cheesy romance novels comes up.

But I love it's cheesiness and its a nice change of pace from all of the horribly depressing but amazing books I've read lately.

The School of America in Paris (SOAP) might not be as unusual as Hogwarts or Watford, but it certainly is a one-of-a-kind setting for the dreamy teen romance world that the author has created. "Anna" and "Isla" are set almost entirely at the school, and though we don't see that setting in "Lola", we do get a glimpse of some beloved characters. This is one of my favorite series featuring #UnusualSchools! #TropesinAugust

1. The Diviners by Margaret Laurence
2. Boarding school in Paris? Yes please!
3. The Great Gatsby. I honestly have no idea if I ever finished it....

@ozma.of.oz #SundayFunday

Prairiegirl_reading I love Margaret Laurence! ❤️ 4y
MsMelissa Yup, The Diviners stayed with me, too, although my pick for the question would be Wuthering Heights! I was the only person in my OAC English Lit class that liked it 😂 4y
TheKidUpstairs @Book_Fiend_Melissa I haven't yet braved Wuthering Heights! The Diviners was in my OAC curriculum, it was one of the best English lit classes I ever took. Great teacher, great discussions. We had time for one last book and had to vote for Lawrence (Sons and Lovers) or Laurence, and my mostly male class picked Laurence because everyone agreed we hadn't read enough women 😁 4y
MsMelissa That‘s awesome. I think my OAC English Lit class was probably my favourite class in high school, mainly because of the teacher 😊 I can‘t remember if I read The Diviners in my regular OAC English class or in Grade 12 English, which was all Canadian Lit. 4y

This was just as cute as I remember it being. It's a funny, fluffy light summer romance, full of great characters and a steady plot. I love the relationship between all the characters but wish we got a little more at the end between Anna and her friends and not just St. Claire. Overall this is a great easy YA romance that ages well.

I only read this because it fit a reading challenge category, but I ended up really liking it! It felt very realistic, and while there was some teen drama it wasn‘t overwhelming. A little cheesy, but an overall fun read. 4/5 stars, will probably read more by this author.

Probably the worst and most annoying book I‘ve read in a while. I don‘t read contemporary a lot but when I do I expect something ... more than what this gave me. I technically listened to it and had to speed up to x2 so I could just be done with it. I didn‘t like the message it gave to young adults.

litmuggle1 I fell the same way, I'm sad.to say i found them on sale so i have the series. I couldn't even make it 50 pages so they will be finding there way to the little free library. 5y
Zelma Completely agreed. I remember being very annoyed about the pointless reason for the two main characters to not just start dating right away. It made no sense. There was not reason for all the hurt and drama. 5y

But that's not quite right, either.
I miss Paris, but it's not home. [...] Is it possible for home to be a person and not a place?"
