I want to give this book all the stars. I think this is one of my favorite reads of the year and need the sequel like yesterday. I love the magic system and the cast of characters. I was not fully expecting the ending. One of the characters is one that you love then hate then not sure how to fill. In 8th grade, I came across R.L. Stine Fear Street series and to my surprise, my mom bought them for me. I thought she wouldn't because they would be too scary for me. I realize now, she was just happy I was reading again. This would have been more interesting if parts weren't so tedious. You would hear the whole story & then at the end, there would be a news article or poem from that time explaining the whole story...again. I love Mariana Zapata & she is the queen of slow burns(& I do mean slow). I have yet to dislike anything she has written. This one was not like her normal stories & she stated a little out of her comfort zone but I think she did really well with it.It still sounded like one of her books but was different in a good way. This was everything I ever wanted in a fantasy romance. It has adventure, some angst, a possibility morally gray love interest that was totally swoon worthy and interesting world building that the author used to address real life issues It did start slow more than made up for it once the story got started. The narration of it was just 👌 and a duet narration which made it better. #fantasy #fantasyromance #fae #audible #audiobook

This was a pretty decent Mafia romance. Since a large chunk of the book takes place with the first week of the MC giving birth, some of the situations made me cringe imagining what that would have felt like. This was a rollercoaster and I'm still not sure how I feel about the love interest. What he did at the beginning of the book before he knew the truth was horrific and I'm not sure if I was the MC, that I could forgive him. I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I picked it up for the pluc size mc & quite honestly, wasn't expecting it to be as deep as it was. It's a bully romance but one that takes place after the bullying. When the bully regrets what he did & we find out how he ended up being how he was & that the mc was not as innocent as she thought she was in the bullying as we were lead to believe at the beginning. #Kindle #kindleunlimited #bully #romansty

Not going to lie, TL Swan does very good smut. On top of that though, she also knows how to tell a good story and tug on your heartstrings. I cried, ok actually bawled like a baby during this one. This book got me right in the feels. It's about 700 pages and I finished it in 3 days which I have never done. The MC is plus size and a lot of her inner monologue hit very close to home. Even though what the love interest did was awful, he redeemed himself by the end. You definitely go through a lot of emotions for both characters. Gothic romances will forever be my favorite. It's hard to find modern gothic romances. Most are classics or historical fiction so I was excited when I found this one. I wish this book was longer and went into more detail about the fables, islands and curse.
