I love Fannie Flagg books… they are like a hug in book form and this was no exception! It was so fun to follow a town and its residents from the founding to present day… if you need a light and easy read, this is the book for you!

Just finished my favorite book in Fannie Flagg‘s Elmwood Springs series. 🙌🏻 This prequel covers everything from the town‘s history to sweet stories of its founders & all its residents. A true slice of small town life filled with nostalgia, juicy gossip and an intriguing spin on the afterlife.
Fannie is a master at creating characters that befriend us for life. I‘m gonna miss my Elmwood Springs family.😢They always have your back no matter what.
3.75/5 ⭐️ for being light hearted and occasionally funny. I needed something light, and this worked.
Reminiscent of a Garrison Keillor tale, this is the story of a town founded by Swedish immigrants. The town grows over the decades, and its residents are buried in the town cemetery. Having lived in small towns most of my life, the growth and decline of a small town sounds familiar, as does the genuine goodness of most of the characters.
Don‘t waste your time. Bad “philosophy “ mixed with grumpy-old-Lady view of the world. Add in a thin plot, little development and simplistic resolutions to difficult problems. Total pan for me.
Fannie Flagg is not helping. I‘d bail on this except I kind of want to know how she will account for people disappearing from the cemetery.
After walking the beach at dawn all last week it‘s been hard to go back to the treadmill, but maybe Fannie Flagg will help.
I've been a big fan of Fannie's in the past. I don't *dislike* this book, but I'm just not excited about it. Bailing at 27%.
I thought the story overall was so-so. The timeline was crazy long. The chapters were so short, sometimes not even a full page. There were some characters that were just absolute gold though. Then after I finished the book and looked at the cover, every little bit of it ties into the book. #18 #2019
The book started out delightful and charming, typical of Flagg, with (mostly) likeable characters with lots of appeal and just the right amount of quirkiness, but then it got silly... I like the premise of the book, the birth of a town in the 1800s right through to 2021, but I could have done without the subplot in the cemetery—this was corny and unnecessary.
All-in-all, a fun read.
Just picked up this book. Hoping it‘s good.
This was a fun & very light read, a nice distraction. Fannie Flagg is a gifted storyteller. Here, she brings a multi-generational cast of quirky small-town characters to life through extremely brief vignettes as scenes from their interconnected (sometimes entangled) lives. It felt a bit contrived and a little too preachy for my taste, but it was just the right light read for the moment.
This sweet and funny story is my current read, and my choice for the #LitsyReadingChallenge, #RecommendedBy the beautiful-inside-and-out, queen of moxie & bearer of wisdom, @LauraBeth ! This book is exactly what I need at the moment and I am loving it.
.... In which Fannie Flagg explores Eastern spiritual beliefs in the afterlife!! Intriguing. As always, this book by Ms. Flagg was as sweet and satisfying as a bowl of peach ice cream. Read it for simple pleasure, with a side of metaphysical exploration, and enjoy!
A light, cozy, slice of life read without much romance and with zero gore or mystery. Flagg picks up aspects of Eastern spiritual practices of ancestor worship & reincarnation and gives it a Westernized twist. A good vacay or beach read unless you have difficulty with non-Christian spiritual viewpoints.
Finished this audiobook on my drive & I'm still going "what" at the ending. It is the story of a small Midwestern town & its inhabitants from the very beginning of the town to the present. You get to know its inhabitants & when they die they go to the cemetery & continue on talking, gossiping, & getting the latest news from the visitors to the cemetery & the cemetery's newest arrivals. It was ok but.... I enjoyed other books by Fannie Flagg more.
My current audiobook is all about a small town & its residents, from birth to death & beyond!!

I enjoyed how generational characters interacted. Fannie Flagg captured small town, rural life perfectly. My book group will have lots to say.
So this is what I've picked up from the library this week... my son had his wisdom teeth out this morning, so while he is convalescing I am reading......
My precious #Athena has decided to inspect my book mail and most likely take a nap on it. 😍😍 Her full name is #missathenamariebouveirmcgillacuddy
#bookmail is the best mail! #goodreadsgiveaway P.S. I HATE the latest android update... once I take my photo with or without cropping before posting, the app goes into "it thinks it knows better than me" mode than crops it like this AFTER I'm done photo editing. Any tips? This is driving me nuts.
I'm so excited to be starting off my #litsypartyofone celebration! I have my hot chocolate and I'm ready to start! I'm hoping to make my way through some of the books I'm currently reading!
Just really starting to get into this tonight! I'm liking it so far! It was a gift and will be my first Fannie Flagg!
Not really sure if I was in the best mood to be reading this book, but I found myself unable to really connect to the characters because we only saw so little of each one.
Maybe I'm just too cranky these days but I found myself pretty exasperated with a lot of the book. I could imagine it being very fun if I was in a happier headspace. So maybe this review is misplaced. Take it for what it's worth.
"Elner always sang to her chickens. She believed it made them lay bigger eggs. And besides, she liked to sing. Unfortunately, she sometimes didn't know the words and was always just a hair off-key, but the chickens didn't seem to mind."
I wanted something light and comforting, and this book fit the bill.
I loved this so much. I'm home sick so it may just have been the perfect read. This book was like a hug; soft, warm, and comfortable. She does such a great job of weaving a tale that extends from the 1890s to 2021. Tells of a new town in Missouri, a mail order bride, members of the community and on to their descendants. And the thing? What if it's true?! That would be cool I think! Don't you. Caught me off guard at first, but came to love it.
Just started this today and I'm 1/2 way finished. As always, Fannie does not fail to entertain.
So many great choices sitting on my shelf right now. Not sure which to start first! And I wonder how many I can finish before they have to go back to the library.

Just minding my own business and there's a mention of Shreveport.
Husband's at work, the kids are still sleeping, and it's begun to snow outside. Time to read. Then later when daughter wakes up, we will walk to bookstore I've heard is just around the corner from this inn. *wahoo*
Elmwood Springs, Missouri, is a small town like any other, but something strange is happening at the cemetery. Still Meadows, as it‘s called, is anything but still.
Lordor Nordstrom created, not only a lively town and a prosperous legacy for himself, but a beautiful resting place for his family, friends, and neighbors to come. But when odd things begin to happen, and it starts the whole town talking.

This is how I got my haul home from the Random House open house today. Took the carry on to NYC empty and brought it back FULL! They gave us two new releases (Trevor Noah and Fannie Flagg), a George Saunders, and a few smaller items. And of course they had a bookstore - great prices too. Amazing day - well worth the investment and time! Next time, please come join me. 😎 #happybibliophage
NO YOU'RE TOTALLY CRYING. Thanks Page & Palette in Fairhope, AL for making a dream of mine come true. (She signed one for my mom, too. SHHHH!)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I pretty much read this in one sitting (before #Bitsy even woke up), because it was that good 😀I haven't read Fannie Flagg since Fried Green Tomatoes and all I can think now is that I've been missing out on some good books. Many thanks to NetGalley and Random House for providing a copy in exchange for an honest review. Full review here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1836073846
Got this signed at the Evening with Fannie Flagg tonight.
Cute & enjoyable with memorable characters. Full of charm and kindness, the book focuses on every day life in small town America starting in 1889 and going through to 2021. The characters are the highlight of the book! I received an eARC copy of The Whole Town‘s Talking from Random House Publishing Group via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ book. It was good, but with some flaws. The book imagined what happens after we die and tells the story of a town and its people over a hundred years. It's funny and interesting, but would have been better with a tighter focus and not covering such a long span of time. (The pic is of my new Kindle in a new cover I got for it and this story is the first I've read on it.)
Ugh. I really didn't like this one at all. The concept was actually kind of cute but just not executed well and the end? Oh good grief, so stupid!
I'm really struggling to get this finished. Maybe over this long weekend.
Currently reading #netgalley
I'm really struggling to get thru this book. I'm finding it actually quite boring and the characters hard to keep track of. It's a Goodreads win ARC so I feel somewhat compelled to finish but it feels more like a chore than anything else.
I won this from a Goodreads giveaway, I'm pretty excited as I enter so many and rarely ever, almost never, win any! Going to finish my current read and then dive in.
While my girls are swimming I'm taking it easy reading the new Fannie Flagg book. I'm not burning any calories, but I am having a relaxing afternoon.
The newest Fannie Flagg novel goes back to the founding of Elmwood Springs. Makes me want to reread her other books. #setinasmalltown #photoadaynov16 #netgalley
