This was a really fun mythology story! I loved the characters and the plot. It‘s innocent, but there are epic battle scenes. The names of the chapters spoil the chapter, but in a way that makes you curious. I didn‘t like part of the ending, but I hear book 2 solves the problem. I am going to start sea of monsters soon.

3/5⭐ You know you've out-aged a series when you keep yelling at the adults for putting way too much responsibility on 12-year-olds. #booked2022

Unabridged Audiobook (10/10):
It has been at least 10 years since I first read this story, and man does it still hold through the rest of time. Rick Riordan manages to craft a world that is so rich, vibrant, and full of intellect; something that I feel is rarely done so elegantly with mythology. The story is heartfelt, relatable, touching, and constantly suspenseful.

I am a couple of decades late to the party but heck, I‘m glad to be here! Talk about a fun, gripping novel. I was hooked the whole way through. I love what Rick Riordan is doing with his platform so was excited to read his work alongside the awesome new work he‘s promoting by diverse authors ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

#WondrousWednesday Thank you @Desha for tagging me. 1) I try hard to read everyday but some days are definitely harder than others. 2) I always carry a book with me and will read while waiting or when there is downtime. I also try to read before bed. 3) My comfort genre is middle grade. Give me Percy Jackson to spend time with and I am a happy girl. I can read those books over and over

Eggs Love this! I‘m a fan of MG too! 10mo

Really enjoyed this book. My 12 year old cousin gave this book because she loves the series and wanted me to read it. When I was a kid I loved reading mythology. I enjoyed a modern take on Greek mythology. Very creative and interesting characters.

Good time zone! Today on my #bookshelftour I'll show you some of my Rick Riordan collection. Some of his books are on my TBR shelves and thus not shown.
Do you own books in more than one edition/language? I own the original Percy Jackson books in Italian, English, and Dutch (the latter was a gift from a dear friend, as I'm learning his language).

loved. obsessed. don‘t care that they‘re for a “younger audience”. Greek mythology (if you (mortals) don‘t believe it‘s real) is so cool. took me a minute to collect all the old covers but alas, as Percy does, I prevailed.

This is one of those books “everyone“ has read but I just never got to. I really enjoyed this rollicking MG adventure even if it did lack some depth. It was interesting to delve into the negative reviews on GR. Most people bashed it as being a HP knockoff, which I guess I see but also feel like in many ways Riordan did just follow some common tropes, which HP does as well. I think this book would do well for slightly younger audience than HP ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) but maybe that's just me. Either way, I enjoyed it, despite the fact (or because of the fact?) that it was pretty much non-stop action/being attacked by crazy monsters/doing ridiculous things/having astoundingly good luck all things considered. I'll be continuing this series to see where things go, although I will say that at this point I don't see this becoming my new favorite series. 1y

Librarybelle I have not read this one yet…maybe I am now the last one on the planet not to have read it! 😂 1y
TheAromaofBooks @Librarybelle - As I was writing this review, I began to wonder if I actually benefitted from waiting so long to read it, because it honestly didn't even occur to me to particularly compare this book to HP as so many other reviewers did, since this book came out the same year as Half-Blood Prince. Sometimes wandering around behind the bandwagon does have advantages 😂 1y

As a kid I never actually got around to reading this series. Decided to give it a try! Although clearly meant for a younger audience there was a surprising amount of adult humor thrown in here and there. The story was quite fun and easy to follow. Probably woulda been more head over heels for it as a younger person but was still entertained!

What a fun and enjoyable read! I enjoyed the modern characterizations given to the "gods". The struggle of Percy to accept who he is was a great part of the story. The grit to complete his quest is admirable. Well worth reading.

This MF (mythical fiction), LC book will be a fun add to fifth grade classrooms! The major theme of this book is identity. After being expelled from several schools, Percy ends up at a private school in upstate New York for troubled kids. From there, his life takes a turn as he realizes who his father really is, and he embarks on a quest to find what he is accused of stealing.

Betrinag Best used in a LC, this book will capture the attention of students from the start. Read, Write, Think provides resources and plans to help organize a LC in the classroom. http://www.readwritethink.org/classroom-resources/lesson-plans/literature-circle... UDL principle 3.3 concerning guiding information processing, along with EL 16 regarding integrating listening and speaking activities, pair well with this book. 2y
Betrinag A bonus to add is this book is available in a teacher‘s edition, and is the one I own! After the story, there are discussion questions and classroom activities that can be used with your class, or inspire other creative ideas of your own. #ucflae3414sp21 2y

15-24 Jan 2021 (audiobook)
For me, Greek Myths are essential childhood reading. Like bible stories, the characters appear again and again in pop culture.
We read this series with Polly when she was 8 (both reading, as enthralled as she was). Mythos prompted me to try the audiobooks with Trixie. The complex characters and relationships have confused her at times (she is 5!) but she thoroughly enjoyed it and is keen for more. As are Polly and I.

I have dragged my feet on this series and I'm finally done. I just never fully connected with the characters and early on it felt like these demigod kids weren't in any real danger. This book winds it all up, probably a bit too neatly, but at least it felt like there was some danger. I can see how kids and young teens may enjoy these, but I'm glad to be finished.

Started this the other day. So far I‘m sucked in and the only thing I‘m not a fan of is how the main character is supposed to be 12 but the dialogue makes him seem older. I have the graphic novel to go along with this series. I‘m thrilled because I love anything involving Greek gods and this series comes highly recommended to me.

Listening on audiobook. When I was younger I loved Greek mythology. I could name all of the Greek and Roman Gods. I‘ve heard so much about this series so I listened to determine if my nephew is ready. The story line is intriguing and does not dumb down the information like a lot of middle grade books. No profanity which is also a bonus. There is the evil step parent trope but it‘s explained. I have an hour left. We shall see.
