Loved the moral of the story presented in this book. It's an easy short read!
I was reading the other afternoon and heard tapping on our window, 31 floors up. I looked over to see this.
One of my favourite books ever.....
Easy read, straightforward about life. Seagulls as the epiphany of life itself. The perseverance and hard work are the key to a better livelihood .
I read this #novella when I was eleven and I loved it. As I recall it is basically about a seagull messiah and most likely deeper than my preteen mind grasped. I have my great grandmother's copy somewhere but after an hour searching I couldn't find it. So back to Google images 🤦🏼🤷🏼🙈🙊
If our friendship depends on things like space and time, then when we finally overcome space and time, we‘ve destroyed our own brotherhood! But overcome space, and all we have left is Here. Overcome time, and all we have left is Now. And in the middle of Here and Now, don‘t you think that we might see each other once or twice?”
It is the book one should read it over and over as it has different meaning every time you read it.
‘Why, Jon, why?" his mother asked. "Why is it so hard to be like the rest of the flock, Jon? Why can't you leave low flying to the pelicans, the alhatross? Why don't you eat? Son, you're bone and feathers!" "I don't mind being bone and feathers mom. I just want to know what I can do in the air and what I can't, that's all. I just want to know.‘
A few pages in and already feeling better. The pictures of seagulls every chapter help too.
I finished this lovely book, for the second time, and it is as brilliant a fable as it was the first time. This is the 1973 edition my husband, or more likely his parents, bought for 13 Kroner in Norway. I feel fortunate my husband introduced this author to me when we first married. I have enjoyed every Bach book I‘ve read.
He spoke of very simple things—that it is right for a gull to fly, that freedom is the very nature of his being, that whatever stands against that freedom must be set aside, be it ritual or superstition or limitation in any form....”The only true law is that which leads to freedom,” Jonathan said. “There is no other.”
“The place for a seagull at night is on shore, and from this moment forth he vowed, he would be a normal gull. It would make everyone happier.” I love this fable about an individual trying to be more than the expectation of his peers. Sometimes, giving in makes everyone else happier but robs the individual of what makes him/her happy. This is a re-read from my 20s and I loved it then and so far I love it now.
Currently reading this. Kinda boring at times. I don't really really like seagulls all that much nor care about their speed of flight.
#publishedinthe1970s so I've picked six of my favourites. I used to read all the early Stephen King books ,Thorn Birds ❤️ , of course the tagged book so 😎, Shogun so awesome that I read :Taipan, Noble House and King Rat. Probably one of my all time favourites- My Name is Asher Lev #jubilantjuly
Boy bands always make me think of my first love- Jordan Knight. I was NKOTB obsessed. In an article I read that listed all of his favorites, he claimed this as his favorite book. Of course I had to own a copy. Did I think that if Jordan and I ever met I would dazzle him with my knowledge of Jonathan's quest to fly high? I love that I still have this copy even if I likely haven't read it since I was in middle school. #aslongasyouloveme #melodicmay
Came across this oldie while antique shopping. One of the first audiobooks? Can't wait to give it a listen!
This book arrived yesterday from my Facebook meme Book Exchange. I have never read it but it sat on my Nana's bookshelf for decades - I remember seeing it there as a child. I was so happy to get this as a surprise gift, and the inscription moved me. Lori wrote, "A book of hope and flight even in the impossible situation." That lifted my soul; I look forward to this read. ??

“He was not bone and feather but a perfect idea of freedom and flight, limited by nothing at all”
― Richard Bach, Jonathan Livingston Seagull
Very unique book! I was always fascinated by these lovely birds at shores but this story takes seagulls to the new level :)
It's pretty amazing to find a book about something you believe in.
Just got these babies from a local online shop. ;)
Heart wrenchingly good.
I can think of many marvelous books set by the sea - The Shipping News, All the Light We Cannot See, Life of Pi, etc. - but I sadly no longer have any of those in my possession. (The perils of loaning books and overzealously purging. 😢) I do have Jonathan Livingston Seagull, though - a favorite from my childhood. #somethingforsept #septphotochallenge
My daughter is four and a half and today she said, - I'm going to be a writer when I grow up. - What kind of books will you write? - For children and grown ups. - Both? I like that. - Yes, because you read both. My heart was full of love & my eyes were full of tears. She is starting school tomorrow and this is her bedroom bookshelf. 👧👩❤️👩📚🖋❤️
@Liberty Fun Friday photo- in my youth it was JLS that was picked up over and over again. I don't reread much anymore, but I've read Of Mice and Men more times than I can count as an adult. Steinbeck gets me every time.
I loved it. Short but great book about learning to soar in many ways.
On a new med that makes my eyes burn and my sight blurry but I am determined to finish this tonight. It's only like 90 pages and has a lot of pictures, lol. This is one really irritating side effect but I will not let it stop my quest to be a better reader. 😉👍
This book is an inspiration for those people who choose not to comply with the mass, who risk it all to see their dreams come true, because it's only by believing in yourself that you get what you desired. The brave seagull Jonathan is what we would all like to be but that only few can become.🔝🔝
