With King it‘s never about the plot for me. He has a way of creating characters, even in a novella like this, that make you feel invested in their lives. There‘s nothing scary in this book, just a story about neighbors finding common ground and realizing life is too short for petty disputes.

“Life is what we make it and acceptance is the key to all our affairs.” #deweyreadathon #readathon @DeweysReadathon

Jinjer Daaaang, Girl! I don't know what is going on but I was not able to leave you a comment on your blog and I couldn't pull you up on Twitter and your Insta is private so I finally can talk to you here on Litsy. I thought maybe the blog comment problem was that your blog doesn't like my Chromebook, but I couldn't leave a comment via my iPhone either.

Anyway! All I wanted to do was ask you was: What did you think of Address Unknown?

AvidReader25 @Jinjer I‘m so sorry, that‘s nuts! I need to figure out the blog thing. I loved it! It was short, sharp, and beautifully powerfully in its brief story. Have you read it? 1mo

I will say this surprised me as a King novel, since he is typically known for his spook!👻
This was such a tragically beautiful & heartwarming story🖤🎇
Scott starts to lose weight but not size… and no matter how heavy his clothes are, he weighs the same.🤔

fredamans I enjoyed this one as well. I liked that it wasn't his usual creepy fare. 1mo

I can't think of anything I've read by King that I didn't like. These two stories (Elevation, and Laurie) were very reminiscent to me of the kind of classic short stories I studied in university. Even though the title is Elevation, it was actually Laurie that I enjoyed the most. It was also nice to listen to King read his stories.

One would think that the fact that like the MC in Elevation, I am Scott & am 42, this would be a clear winner. Well...I'll admit that part of the issue is that I am still riding the high from Sleeping Beauties. It was going to be hard to follow that one up. There were certain aspects of this that I liked. Certain aspects that I disliked. As a parable it was a bit clunky, but I found myself also emotional while reading it at times.

vivastory (cont.) I have now read 29 King books. This ranks right above Langoliers as my least favorite. I am planning on reading The Institute before BIlly Summers is pub. Once I finish I will post my ranking of the 30 King books I've read. 4mo
TrishB Oh interesting! I‘ll await your list 😁 4mo
rohit-sawant This is still on my TBR. And can't wait to hear your thoughts on The Institute! 4mo

I really enjoyed this short read. It drew me in with a mystery and led me on with a story of a man and his relationship with others, and how those relationships can change their lives.

"Gravity is the anchor that pulls us down into our graves."

"Perhaps in their time if dying, everyone rises."

I give this read ⭐⭐⭐

Such a sweet, touching story. Scott, recently divorced, 42, begins losing weight without any changes to his appearance. He consults with a casual friend who is a retired doctor. Despite any scientific explanations for the weight loss, Scott is feeling great and decides to embrace the changes. King offers so many life lessons in this wonderful story; acceptance of change, open mindedness towards others, and the strength of good friends. #MountTBR

Stephen King is widely recognized as the master of horror (and rightly so), but he is equally adept at another emotion in narrative, yet rarely acknowledged for it: heart.
This is a simple tale of an average man mysteriously losing weight day by day, but maintaining a normal outward appearance. As he deals with his bizarre situation he makes new friends, opens his heart to the beauty of life, and feels rewarded for it. Very emotionally rewarding!

Scott loosingweight is the plot of the story and I wish it would have went more in-depth.Scott while loosing this weight yet he looks the same, is having trouble with his neighbors dogs pooping on his lawn. His lesbian neighbors I might add who are having trouble with the restaurant because the town is apparently too goodey to go eat at there restaurant.Scott makes it his mission to help his neighbors and fix his relationship with him before 0 day.

A science fiction novel that feels mostly like magical realism, but does have some thriller/horror elements. The writing was good & comfortable & the movement through the plot flowed. The characters were great & everything felt like a dreamscape. There were moments where I felt emotionally connected to the character in a way that was amazingly deep for such a short book. Hats off to Mr. King for his marvelous abilities. The man knows his craft.

I wish an editor loved Stephen King enough to say no to him regarding how he describes women. The story Elevated is so beautiful & magical in parts. But always with the weirdo sexual descriptions of females - it strikes a wrong note. And not needed. His writing is so clean and descriptive otherwise. Even simple scenes can be transportive.

Had a bit of chores that needed to be done, so I popped on this Audio Book.

Quite enjoyable. At first I thought it sounded like Thinner but it quickly became clear that it was nothing like that curs of weight loss. This was a different kind of thing all together.
What amaze me most is that after all this time King still comes up with new and fascinating ideas that totally blows my mind.

Enchanted_Bibliophile I also enjoyed the little extra story at the end. It looks like an audio exclusive as it's not part of my print copy. 11mo

A nice quick read. Unlike anything, I've read from King before. The undertones of the importance of tolerance and finding common ground with people not like you was well-timed with current events. Worth a read, but not if you're expecting typical Stephen King horror, that it is not. But it would fit perfectly in between books as a breather or change of pace.

I love Stephen King, but I didn't think this was his best. The science behind the idea in this novella just didn't work for me. I wasn't able to suspend belief and the characters were a little too cliche. I enjoyed the dog story at the end of the audio the most and I liked listening to King read his own work.

Elevation did a lot of things right, like a surprising incredible character development for a short read. And its compelling narrative expands in complexity within each page turn. But in the end, it just did not work for me. Its plot is disturbingly weird, with a ridiculous premise, in which you get no origin nor aftermath explanation.

Needed a King book for #AuthorAMonth, and a mystery/thriller for #scarathlon so this is what I chose. Set in Castle Rock, Maine, the story begins with Scott‘s dilemma: although he doesn‘t look any different, he‘s been steadily losing weight. There are a couple of other odd things, too. He weighs the same in his clothes and out of them, no matter how heavy they are....Not your usual King story: neither earthshaking nor terrible. #bookspin #bookspinbingo #authoramonth2020 @TheAromaofBooks @Soubhiville

25 minutes into day 2 of #cyoreadathon and #scarathlon2020 I finished this short, weird Stephen King book. I was expecting more horror, but while it was creepy it was more existentially unsettling than outright scary? A man discovers he‘s losing weight, going down to completely weightless, without his body changing at all. I found it sweet and worrying in equal measure. @Sace

#teamharkness @StayCurious I think +15 for theme +1 for participation

This was a quick, lovely read, which was what I was looking for. I needed a tiny break from the serious topics of racism and social justice. History is interesting but also infuriating. I finished this one in one sitting and absolutely loved it. The story includes a man in a small town dealing with a mysterious, somewhat magical illness. And more importantly, it focuses on compassion and forgiveness.

A charming little novella, full of heart and substance in spite of its size. Lighter fare for King, but not the least bit unwelcome.

Mistermandolin I often find I like his shorter ones more. The longer stuff sometimes seems overgrown and in urgent need of serious pruning. I wonder if he even has an editor? I just finished The Colorado Kid. Short and sweet and all the better for that. 1y
DoonTheGoon @Mistermandolin I've sensed that as well - and I seem to always find myself drawn to his short stories instead of his full-length novels. 1y
Mistermandolin @DoonTheGoon Couldn‘t agree more. The short stories are wonderful. And books like Different Seasons and Four Past Midnight where he does his four-in-one collections. Novella-type things that seldom outstay their welcome. I‘m assuming you‘ve come across those? 1y
