Book #26 of 2025: “Habibi”

This is an anthology of short works by Muslimah authors from across the world, edited by Hadeel al-Massari and Nyala Ali. Most of the included works were in the usual written format, but a few were in graphic novel style. I can‘t possibly do justice to the exploration of different genres, themes, and topics but I‘ll say that my favorites were “Skin” by Priya Huq and “Not a Love Story” by Zainab bint Younus.

My first December #Roll100 pick finished, #26 Any Backlist . I have been slowly working my way through T.Kingfisher‘s backlist the last couple of years, liking both her brand of creepy horror & retellings. This one was a bit of a slow burn for me but I enjoyed it. It was more creepy than scary & left some questions unanswered at the end but I enjoyed it. How can you not like a setting that‘s a museum/curiosity shop in a small town? 😱

willaful I've already read #26, radio silence. My other two books are both non-fiction - Hey Hun is about MLMs and white supremacy and the Magician's Book is about Narnia. 1mo

Wow, this is a what you call #NordicNoir! A fire and a murder in a small Swedish village continue to have effect on the village for years to come. A former police officer can‘t let go and neither does the nephew of the man convicted for the crimes.

In the mean time the book sketches a pretty good picture of the political and social circumstances of the country during the 90s and the 00s. ⬇️

monalyisha I‘m actually considering trying this! I normally wouldn‘t be drawn to it but I‘ve been trying to find books for my stepdad, who recently started reading (in preparation for his retirement). He‘s a homicide detective with a history as an arson detective. He doesn‘t have a literary bent but I‘m wondering if this is one we *both* might be able to read? Worth “investigating,” anyway! 😉 4mo

BarbaraBB @monalyisha I loved it but it‘s not your traditional thriller in the sense that it is real Swedish and rather quiet. I loved that. Not much violence either. But definitely worth investigating 🕵️‍♂️ 4mo
