Growing up I was a fan of the book & the movie with Haley Mills & I had the Disney movie tie in Golden Book too.

A happy little tale and a reminder about the power of gratitude. Predictable and dated, but still quaint. A nice listen for Trixie and me on our commutes to and from school and activities.

I think that Sara Crewes and Anne Shirley will always be my favorite orphan, but Pollyanna's positive attitude reminds me to be more intentionally kind to others. I have to remember to praise more than complain. #ChildrensClassics2021 @TheBookHippie

This is yet another children's classic I've not read & I was happy to join in with the #ChildrensClassicRead2021 this month. Just based on how the term Pollyanna is used, I was afraid I'd find this syrupy & sentimental. But it surprised me! It *is* at heart a sweet story about an almost-perfect girl, but the humour & characterisation added charm. It was also a book that I read in bed over these few nights & found very comforting.

I read this book for the first time. It is an uplifting read. This book consoled me that everything will be fine esp in this hard time of COVID-19 lockdown. I felt like I got a tight hug from this book. Thanks a trillion @TheBookHippie 😍🥰 I could have not find out this book.

Such a touching, sweet moment
Pollyanna spreads joy everywhere she go.

I first received and read this book in 1990, and although I remembered it being very cheery and overall enjoyable, that was all I remembered. This past week I very much enjoyed a reread. Yes, it‘s unbelievably optimistic and sweet, but currently I can appreciate a simple and wholesome story on the power of positive thinking where everything works out well in the end.

It‘s been a long time since I read this book, probably since it was gifted to me by my grandparents in 1990. Joining in for a reread of such a cheery book sounds like a good plan. I made time for the first couple of chapters this evening.

I've just seen on Twitter that Hayley Mills has a memoir coming out in September and I've been preparing for this for my whole entire life. I'm going to preorder the heck out of this book. When I was little, we watched Disney on Sunday nights and let me just say, nobody was more excited than this gal when the Sunday night movie was Pollyanna. Oooh I can't wait!

Tagged is #bookspin (as well as #childrensclassicread2021) and #doublespin is The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde - I might actually get them both done this month. My #20in4 readathon is being sidetracked by a migraine (again) courtesy of weather changes and side effects of vaccine number one on Thursday, but I hope to finish Memorial Drive today or tomorrow. First up for bingo is In a Sunburned Country.

Started reading this book today for this month‘s #ChildrensClassicRead2021 pick. I started listening while vacuuming and carried right on listening while I worked on my puzzle. Pollyanna seems like a very wise little girl. 🧩🎧

It‘s May Day!
Sitting down with my coffee and ebook (on my phone) to start #Pollyanna
there‘s been so many book covers over the years!

Pollyanna is like a slightly less mature Anne Shirley & is utterly adorable. I loved the narrative & her character (though I can see why some readers can find her a bit grating). The contrast & tension between her & Aunt Polly is well done & I enjoyed the evolution of their relationship. The writing is comfortable & moves quickly. It is a perfect middle grade level read. A little dated, but still holds great messages & a truly wholesome narrative.

“Miss Polly Harrington entered her kitchen a little hurriedly this June morning.”

That‘s the first line, but I think the rest of the paragraph is worth quoting, so to continue...

“Miss Polly did not usually make hurried movements; she specially prided herself on her repose of manner. But to-day she was hurrying—actually hurrying.”

During the Book Depository sale I bought this for the cover and because I grew up loving the movie starring Hayley Mills. ❤️
It is a delightful book and we could all use a little more Pollyanna in our lives. 😁

It's a battle of the books vs movies. And might i say an interesting twist. I admit the format of talking, made me somewhat drag my feet to finish. But I was bound and determined to finish!
A story of a girl, that brightened the spirits of all in her new town, when she goes to live with her Aunt Polly, after losing both her parents.
Most is the same from the movie, to my memory. Except for one. And I will tell ya if you ask!

I can still see the movie in my head from my childhood. It was lovely to revisit it as a book. It really makes you feel glad. I was a little surprised that the story was more mature than I recall from the movie of my childhood. A great one for all ages. #readwomen

I just finished rereading this classic! While some people may consider it too saccharine for their tastes, I have always enjoyed the book and movie. Looking on the bright side of a situation is a skill that can help anyone.

My daughter has run out of books to read - I've just discovered this beautiful 1938 edition of Pollyanna which was a favourite of mine growing up - hopefully she'll love it too! 😊
