I read this book for the first time. It is an uplifting read. This book consoled me that everything will be fine esp in this hard time of COVID-19 lockdown. I felt like I got a tight hug from this book. Thanks a trillion @TheBookHippie 😍🥰 I could have not find out this book.

Oh my. What a lovely experience! May I suggest the #audiobook? The narrator was amazing. This is about an older man who on the surface seems unfriendly and unloveable...but things aren't always what they seem ;) #feelgoodbooks

josie281 I listened to this as well. Excellent! 7y

This is a lovely easy read about friendship, grief, knowing that the past should stay in the past, and that moving forward is the key to happiness. A feel good book :)

Re-reading one of my #feelgoodbooks. Thanks @DebinHawaii for the reminder 😀. If I had to have a sidekick in real life, I could do worse than Eve's Mother Francis. #bestsidekick #booktober #maevebinchy #nunswithattitude. Also, there is worse pain than pairing it with the hubby's leftover birthday cheesecake #bestfoodsidekick 😂

Michelle_mck Love the book - the movie adaptation ruined me!! Awful movie - tremendous book 8y
Texreader Mmmmm. 😛 8y
EnidBiteEm @Michelle_mck I need to rewatch it. I haven't seen it since it came out, when I was a similar age to Benny and Eve! Thanks for the warning. 8y

Michelle_mck @EnidBiteEm I was 18 when it came out and I saw the film first and then read the book. I was filled with a rage only an 18 year old can have 😂 8y
EnidBiteEm @Michelle_mck 😂 How dare Jack! How dare Nan! How dare they stuff it up? I remember so little of the film, only that if we thought someone was a bit of a duffer/loser/hufflepuff in the 90s we often colloquially called them a Benny, and sometimes, affectionately, we used that term with each other. We had never known a Benedicta or a Bernadette, and we read the book after, so when the film started and the lead was called 'Benny', we lost it 😂😂😂 8y
EnidBiteEm @Texreader It was. What a shame you can't send food over Litsy. I had to eat it all myself. Sigh. 😂 8y
Michelle_mck @EnidBiteEm 😂😂😂 8y
DebinHawaii Now I want to go back and reread it! I am actually fond of the movie (especially Minnie Driver & Alan Cunning) although the book is better for sure. 📚❤️ That cheesecake looks divine! 😀 8y

Missed a couple of days of the #augustphotochallenge while I focused on preparing for school. Now I'm back just in time for #day28. When I need #feelgoodbooks, I usually turn to old favorites. This was one of my most-read books as a child. I dreamed of a secret hideaway like hers, with reading nooks all over the house and garden, a place all to myself. I still get all daydream-y about a house like that.

Laalaleighh Oh. My. God. This book and Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles also by Julie Andrews were my obsessions when I was little and you are the very first person I have ever known that has even heard of even one of them!!!!! 😊😊😊😊 😊 8y
ReadingEnvy Oh yeah I loved books about secret woods and gardens as a girl (I grew up in the woods!) 8y
megt One of my all time favorites! 8y

ValerieAndBooks I loved this book as a kid! I must reread again but will need to find a copy. 8y
AmyS @Laalaleighh Really? I've heard of both books but only read Mandy. I remember how excited I was when I found out Maria from The Sound of Music wrote it! 😊 8y
AmyS @ReadingEnvy I grew up in the suburbs and am very much a city dweller now but also loved books about secret gardens and hideaways. Something about escaping to a quiet, green reading space always appealed to me. 8y

How Not to Write a Novel | Sandra Newman, Howard Mittelmark

This book is fun and informative in a way most 'how-to's' are dull and laundry list like. It livens up the act of editing to become something a writer looks forward too instead of dreads. Very helpful!

The_Literary_Jedi #augustphotochallenge #day28 #feelgoodbooks #augustofpages - I love to read style guides and inspirational writing guides like the ones pictured. They make me feel good about writing, they help me reach my students the craft and art of writing well, regardless of genre or assignment. 8y
TheWordJar I love this whole shelf!! 😍 Coming at it from the editorial side of things, I really enjoyed How Not to Write a Novel. How many editors are kicking themselves for not writing it first?? 8y
