My previous read reminded me that I still had this memoir on my shelves. Agatha Christie writes of the time spent with her archaeologist husband on digs in Iraq and Syria in the years before WWII. It‘s incredibly witty!

See, @Tamra ? I‘m really trying to #ReadMyOwnDamnBooks. 😆

Leftcoastzen You have some great old books! 1mo
TheBookHippie These are so pretty! 1mo
CSeydel Nice! 1mo

Tamra And that‘s a clear win for TBR!! 🥇 😆 1mo
Ruthiella I have a copy (as yet unread) of that too! I‘m all the more excited to read it now after reading the allegedly autobiographical Mary Westmacott novel 1mo
Cathythoughts Lovely book. Sounds good 👌🏻 ❤️ 1mo
batsy How cool! Great cover, too 😍 1mo
Crazeedi Sounds very interesting 1mo
GlassAsDiamonds Omg I adore her writing in this. The epilogue always makes me cry. 1mo
LeahBergen @Leftcoastzen And so do you! 😆 1mo
LeahBergen @Tamra Yep! 😆 1mo
LeahBergen @Ruthiella I really need to try one of the Westmacott books! I have several of them sitting in one of my online shopper carts. 😆 1mo
LeahBergen @GlassAsDiamonds It‘s so chatty and witty! 1mo
sarahbarnes I am also trying to do that! 😂 1mo
Ruthiella If you read only one Westmacott, I recommend Absent in the Spring. It‘s the best of all of them IMO. And the shortest! 😆 Just note, she‘s very fond of using ellipses… to the point of annoyance… 1mo
LeahBergen @sarahbarnes It‘s my never ending goal. 😆 1mo
LeahBergen @Ruthiella That‘s actually the first one I stacked ! And … oh dear… that may become annoying… 😆 Actually, I‘ve noticed her overuse of exclamation marks in this one but I‘m choosing to ignore it, so far. (!!!!) (edited) 1mo
GlassAsDiamonds @LeahBergen I love it, especially the bit at the start in the stores trying to buy winter clothes in spring 🤣🤣 1mo
LeahBergen @GlassAsDiamonds Yes! Trying to get a hat without a massive brim. 😆 1mo
mabell I think I would love this! 1mo
LeahBergen @mabell I think you would, too! 1mo
BookNAround I thoroughly enjoyed his book when I read it. I constantly suggest it to people to see a different side of Agatha Christie. 1mo
LeahBergen @BookNAround I can see why! I‘ll be recommending it, too. 👍 1mo

I got my local library card today. I feel like it was a good way to celebrate being here 4 weeks! My one reading goal this year is to #readmyowndamnbooks, but of course I had to check a couple out as well.

Cerulean Sea was on their $1 paperback FOTL shelf, and I couldn‘t resist. I loaned out my original copy and it never came back to me. I‘ll definitely reread it at some point!

Both of the other authors were at #TXBookFest last year 😁.

AmyG 4 weeks already? 2mo
Soubhiville @AmyG I know! Time flies. 2mo
Matilda I JUST finished Inverse Cowgirl 2mo

WorldsOkayestStepMom Congrats on getting your library card! I'm in the middle of Cerulean Sea right now! 2mo
AnnR Congratulations! I hope it is a nice library. 2mo
Megabooks Yay!!! 2mo
Hooked_on_books Getting that fresh new library card is always an exciting day! I LOVED Crossings. It‘s just fascinating. And I‘m curious about Cowgirl. 2mo
Chelsea.Poole Cowgirl has popped up twice in my litsy in the last few minutes and I‘ve never heard of it before tonight! Congrats on the library card 😊 2mo
Ruthiella Fantastic! It‘s such a great feeling getting your library card from a new place! 😃 2mo

#Bookspin remains my favorite monthly challenge, helping me choose a couple of the books off my shelf and library holds lists.

I actually started Starter Villain yesterday, so that‘s perfect! And my #Doublespin in January is Stories from the Tenants Downstairs, which I‘ve been wanting to read since the year I saw the author at #TXBookFest.

Thanks Sarah @TheAromaofBooks for continuing to host!

#readmyowndamnbooks 😆😁📚

Megabooks Starter Villain is hilarious!! 3mo
TheAromaofBooks Yay!! Enjoy!! Love that cover for the Tenants Downstairs! 3mo

First #bookspin list of 2024! This year I‘m going to keep unread titles from each month on the list to carry over to the following month, so hopefully I‘ll get to all of them before the end of the year. New strategies to #readmyowndamnbooks 😆😁📚. I‘ve had some of these for years.

AmyG I am going to try to so the same. Good luck! 🤣 3mo

“Christopher Hogwood came home on my lap in a shoe box.”

I love Sy Montgomery‘s nature writing, and I‘ve had this book on my shelf for at least a year. Time to read about a good good pig 🙂❤️📚.

AmyG I want a piglet in a shoebox! 7mo
Soubhiville @AmyG be careful what you wish for! 😆🐷. When I was working at the animal shelter in NC, we had a pig with us for a few months, and I became pretty close with her. 💕 I was so happy to find a sanctuary to take her. 7mo

I‘m pretty proud of myself for this stack of August‘s #ReadMyOwnDamnBooks! I‘ve got two more I‘m reading right now but I think chances are slim that I‘ll finish them before the end of the month.

So many great books in this bunch! My fave is The Overstory, but I also loved Now Is Not the Time to Panic, Demon Copperhead, Dragon Haven, and Cassiel‘s Servant. Really there isn‘t one bad book in the lot though. 📚🙂🩵

KathyWheeler I need to challenge myself to do that! I keep checking books out from the library when I have so many I haven‘t read! 7mo
CoffeeK8 I did this for the first few months of the year but did not see the hashtag until now. I‘m trying again for Sept and can‘t wait to use the hashtag! 7mo
UwannaPublishme Great stack here! 😍 7mo

Y‘all. I only estimated by counting one shelf and multiplying by how many TBR shelves I have. It‘s around 300 unread physical books. I know we all have our own gauges, but that feels like a ton to me. Soooo… I‘m initiating a book buying ban (with the exception of what I‘ve preordered already and my Libro.fm and Aardvark subscriptions.)

Definitely time to concentrate on #ReadMyOwnDamnBooks! (Not sure who started this hashtag, but I love it.)

AmyG I probably have the same amount. 😬 8mo
slategreyskies I have over a thousand unread books on my Kindle alone. I didn‘t count my bookshelves. Books are my favorite thing to buy. I‘m not sure I‘m ready for a book buying ban. 😳 8mo
vivastory I hear ya. There is a B&N right down the street from where I live so it is a big temptation, but I could just go in & browse & add them to my library list. Often I'll find books that I weren't even aware had been released doing that. I have a ton of unread physical books & access to a fantastic library. I might need to do the same. 8mo

Megabooks I feel ya! I only bought The Passenger box set on Prime Day, and I‘m trying to keep the momentum going and just read library books or my own. So hard!! Good luck!! 8mo
Soubhiville @AmyG oh good, that makes me feel a little better 😉 8mo
JenReadsAlot Good luck! I was recently looking at my kindle books and that's just ridiculous! 8mo
TrishB I‘m preparing for retirement when I envisage I won‘t be able to buy as many! So I‘m buying for the next 10 years 😁 8mo
Soubhiville @slategreyskies I only use my kindle when I‘m traveling so I didn‘t consider what‘s on there (a lot), and I have maybe 5-7 purchased audiobooks on Libro.fm, which feels reasonable. Lol. 8mo
Cuilin I hear you and I‘m also guilty of this. I probably need a book buying ban too. Will I though? 😬 8mo
Soubhiville @TrishB ah, a different way to think of it! I love it. 8mo
Cuilin @TrishB I like this and will be using it. It was all a plan. 8mo
Soubhiville @vivastory Austin has a fantastic library system too, and I love Libby for audiobooks! I just have a real weakness for book shopping. Not a bad thing necessarily! 8mo
vivastory @Megabooks I was SO tempted to get that. The only reason I didn't is bc i have book 1. 8mo
Eyelit I‘m in the same damn boat lol - between my kindle and physical shelves it‘s gotta be close to 1000 😳 so yeah I‘m def on a book buying ban until the holidays probably! I‘m hoping I can still complete my outstanding challenges with what I have and use the library if necessary 🤞 8mo
ChaoticMissAdventures Books and plants. I buy way too many, I have impulse control but mostly only for these things. I have a bout the same amount - hovering right around 300, I mostly use the library b/c there is a deadline for me to read and return, if I just read from my shelves I am never “in the mood“ and things languish for YEARS. Best of luck on your ban, I have tried it a few times and it only works for me if I do it in short one month or so time frames. 8mo
Soubhiville @ChaoticMissAdventures yes plants too! I‘ve learned through the heartache of losing a ton in our hot TX summers that gardening from June to late September is a no no, and with cats I have to be careful what types of indoor plants I get and plan where they‘ll go before I bring them home. But I do love plant buying too! 8mo
Soubhiville @Eyelit we can do it! 📚💪😆 8mo
AmyG @slategreyskies I forgot to count my ebooks. Add about 50 to my pile. @ChaoticMissAdventures Plants! I tend to buy the sad sale plants at our supermarket….rescue plants. Books and plants, yep. (edited) 8mo
rubyslippersreads @slategreyskies I thought I was the only one with an overstuffed Kindle. 😁 8mo
Meshell1313 You got this!!! 8mo
dabbe I keep joining awesome Litsy group reads, and of course the books chosen are ones I don't have so I HAVE to get them somehow. I'm not patient waiting for loans from the library. I need to work on that. And maybe subconsciously that's why I'm joining these groups so that I have to buy more books. It's a never-ending full circle cycle! 🤣🤩🤣 8mo
BookmarkTavern Lol I was doing so good with the #NoBuy2023 , but then I went on vacation and my tradition is to find a local bookstore anywhere I‘m staying more than a night and buy a book or two. Whoops. 😂 8mo
TrishB @Soubhiville @Cuilin it‘s the most important strand of my retirement plan! 8mo
bthegood @TrishB I love your retirement plan 😅 8mo
Bookwomble I've 1,130 physical books on my TBR shelves 😔 I'm hoping the transhuman singularity will happen in my biological lifetime! 📚🤖📚 8mo
Hooked_on_books I have over a thousand unread books. 🫣😬 Plus a bunch of ebooks. I can‘t stick to book buying bans, so I just make sure I read more of my own books than I acquire and for 3 years in a row, I‘ve reduced my unread physical book library by at least 50 books a year. I call that a win! And @TrishB I like how you think! 8mo
Fortifiedbybooks I own over 900 books, with over 500 of them being physical books. I track everything on a spreadsheet (including how much I spend and how much I “save“ by reading my own books) and with the help of a few custom shelves on Goodreads. I used to do a reading challenge called Shelf Love, and I'm thinking about bringing it back, but I've never been able to really follow through with book-buying bans. 7mo
UwannaPublishme I love this tag! Yay for you for tackling your TBRs head on! I‘m too afraid to count all my books. Especially all the boxes in various closets and sheds. 😳 I couldn‘t believe I have over 100 books on my Kindle alone. Not sure I can ban all book buying, but I am working toward reading more TBRs. 7mo

The stacks for my #DecemberTBR & #WinterReadathon!

The left are book box books that have arrived recently. The middle is all my #pemberlittens reading that I‘m behind on (with the exception of the Heiress) so that stack is my goal for the Winter Readathon - I solemnly vow to catch up on #janeandtheexcellentreadalong! The right is some leftovers and a few books as I continue my quest to #ReadMyOwnDamnBooks.

Gonna be a busy month!

DieAReader Looks great! Good luck📚🤓♥️ 1y

Mehso-so

This was just alright for me. I wasn‘t blown away but I didn‘t hate it either.. I can see the appeal and why it was such a hot book through the pandemic.. and that‘s fine. I‘m extremely meh on it. #readmyowndamnbooks
