Quiet Girl in a Noisy World
Quiet Girl in a Noisy World: An Introvert's Story | Debbie Tung
105 posts | 92 read | 1 reading | 172 to read
This illustrated gift book of short comics illuminates author Debbie Tung's experience as an introvert in an extrovert’s world. Presented in a loose narrative style that can be read front to back or dipped into at one’s leisure, the book spans three years of Debbie's life, from the end of college to the present day. In these early years of adulthood, Debbie slowly but finally discovers there is a name for her lifelong need to be alone: she’s an introvert. The first half of the book traces Debbie’s final year in college: socializing with peers, dating, falling in love (with an extrovert!), moving in, getting married, meeting new people, and simply trying to fit in. The second half looks at her life after graduation: finding a job, learning to live with her new husband, trying to understand social obligations when it comes to the in-laws, and navigating office life. Ultimately, Quiet Girl sends a positive, pro-introvert message: our heroine learns to embrace her introversion and finds ways to thrive in the world while fulfilling her need for quiet.

This is me today, enjoying a quiet day at home alone, surrounded by my books - paperback books and e-books alike!

I‘ve embarked on a short-book journey of comics and audiobooks shorter than an hour. No regrets! 🤓📖🎧

Debbie Tung shares her experiences and struggles of fitting in social situations as an introvert. Filled with heartfelt humour, it‘s fun, cute, mostly relatable, and a great read for understanding an introverted person.

Taking a rest day since they‘re necessary 😝, but finished book 5/10 for my #bookfitnesschallenge ! #bfc

This book is me to a tee 😂! Perfectly describes introverts who prefer to read over everything else!

This was so charming, yet also sad in parts. It hit a nerve, and was very relatable. The art work was perfect for the book, both the colouring in white, Black and different blue and greyish tones, and the illustrations.

Introverts Assemble!
(figuratively, of course. Who would want to abandon hard-won solitude for what would likely be an awkward and mostly silent assembly?! But it‘s nice to know we‘re out there, supporting each other, from a comfortable distance.)

For introverts and the extroverts who love ‘em. Highly relatable, fun graphics.

Recommended to those who enjoy Sarah Andersen‘s graphic novels.

Another Hoopla read. I found this one painfully relatable. It is good to know that I'm not the only one fumbling through life as an introvert, though.

I can‘t stop going back to this book because a) the art is amazing and b) I feel like Debbie Tung and I are kindred spirits. Pretty much every page of this book has me going THAT IS SO ME (the only thing missing would be my cats). Perfect for a rainy Sunday read.

This was a short and sweet look through comics at the author‘s life coming to terms with her introversion. Some of it was super relatable but some of it wasn‘t - could it be that I‘m more of an extrovert than I previously thought?? Either way, the art was cute and I‘ll be checking out her other book in the future.

Sometimes you have multiple books going already but they‘re all out in the living room and you can‘t bring yourself to leave your warm cozy bed so you pull up a cute looking graphic novel on hoopla instead...

This is so real it hurts. As a quiet kid, I often got this same instruction from teachers. I always felt like something was wrong with me. Because extroverted kids are NEVER told to get out of their comfort zones. We live in an extrovert‘s world, and if that‘s not the way you were built, everyone will make you feel like there‘s something wrong with you.

bookishkris This. SO much this. #introvertsunite 5mo
Weaponxgirl The thing that gets me as an introvert is sometimes I do benefit from being pushed outside my comfort zone but some people push it to try to make you more like an extrovert. I won‘t benefit from someone trying to make me go clubbing but I would probably enjoy something like dance lessons which would still be pushing me out of my comfort zone. Just don‘t try to make people someone they aren‘t please! 5mo
