And what's wrong with lending someone a good book? 🤣
People with a grudge against the world are always dangerous. They seem to think life owes them something. I've known many an invalid who has suffered worse and been cut off from life much more . . . and they've managed to lead happy contented lives. It's what's in yourself that makes you happy or unhappy.
A short audio book that got me through my Christmas travels to Kentucky and back. Audio books with lots of characters can sometimes be difficult to follow, but this one was exceptionally well done! Emilia Fox, the narrator, varied her voice for each character which was delightfully entertaining. Also, this book was the closest I‘ve come to correctly guessing an Agatha Christie plot, so I‘m an official sleuth now.
🤔 #hoopla changed its audiobook player in the iPhone app, and... it‘s fine? You can swipe right and access your bookmarks, and swipe left to change a couple settings (speed and sleep timers). Apparently the skip forwards and backwards buttons are variable as well, depending on how much you‘re skipping. It looks prettier, but it still lacks the chapter markings I like on Libby. I‘m still undecided about whether this improves my user experience.
Thank you so much @quietjenn for the amazing Agatha Christie books and goodies for #achristieswapisannounced !! I‘m afraid not all the snacks survived long enough to take this photo... the books are perfect, I ADORE scented candles and the tote and pouch are perfect for work! Thank you @Sophoclessweetheart for organising too, this was my first swap and I‘m so grateful for how smoothly it all went!
@Deangirl I LOVE the direction you went with this! The 1920s theme is so fun. Plus one of my favorite Christie collections and a book I hadn't even heard of! Thank you so much!!!
NOW fingers crossed that your package arrives! I'm so bummed out that you don't have it already, but hopefully it's just weather delays and it will be there soon.
@Sophoclessweetheart thank you for putting this together! #achristieswapisannounced
@DGRachel ! It‘s here, it‘s here, it‘s here! ❤️❤️❤️
And I‘m trying to avoid peeking at the customs form (for now!). Thank you so, so much. I‘m off to hide it away until September 30th! 😆
I have been reading through the Miss Marple series to kick off My Year with Agatha Reading Challenge! Read more about it here at my blog: http://www.pinesandpeaches.com/2018/08/my-year-with-agatha-miss-marple-series.ht...
I kid you not, that is a direct quote!! 🤣 I know I‘m being super juvenile and the character was just using slang from that time period referring to old ladies (specifically Miss Marple) but I was listening to the audiobook at work and almost died from holding in my laughter! 😆
What do you think are the best pet names in literature?
Tiglath Pileser rocks!
One of my other favourites is Lady Jane Grey, the malevolent grey cat from Dickens‘s Bleak House.
Sorry for the crappy underlining. 🤦🏼♀️
What a great concept!
Imagine reading your local newspaper and finding an ad stating that a murder will take place in your town later that night.
What would you do?
This mystery is so good. It‘s a really fun one - as murder mysteries go. I tried not to work it out so I could just be surprised and I was! This is definitely my favorite AC so far (it‘s my 4th).
A note about this edition tho - wow! It is in gross need of an editor. I hope they aren‘t all this bad but I guess they could be. Wrong words used many times and punctuation errors. Eek! #readwomen #libraryreads

My first Agatha Christie. Definitely so much more than I expected. I loved the reveal because those things I thought were typos actually told you who the killer was.
Forgot to post my November list yesterday! This was a lower month... had a bit of a reading slump. Too many books on the nightstand, and nothing really pulling me in—felt like I was never going to finish anything! I gave up on a few and will go back to them later. In spite of the slump, I hit my Goodreads goal of 100 this month! Hoping to finish the rest of my challenges in December.

There is something wonderful about reading Agatha Christie even when you figure out who did it half way through the book, you are pulled along magnetically to the very end. May be it is the brilliant conclusion of “how” it was done. She‘s really good about making a reader believe in the feasibility of the deception or criminal act. Her plots are simple. Who cares? I enjoy reading her books. And now another one is ✅!
I‘ve only finished two books so far this month, and it‘s been slow going on the other two I am attempting to actively read at the moment! Lately I‘ve been focusing on podcasts for my commute, but I think what I might need is a nice dose of Agatha Christie instead. Starting this one this morning...
Frodo and I are getting ready to read our first ever #AgathaChristie novel! This one was recommended by a Vintage Books (Vancouver, WA) bookseller when I asked for British/London reads. I'm trying to bulk up on British-isms, history, and culture before our trip to London in March. Recommendations welcome!

I'm 98% sure I remember this one. But I'm only about an hour in, and I'm not totally sure I'm not mixing it up with another! I binged every Christie book in 5th grade or so... which was... ahem... a long time ago (25 years!). Love Emilia Fox's narration though - she does a ton of the Miss Marple ones.
Mhm... Ich glaube, ich habe schon wieder Bücher bestellt 🤔
I think, I've ordered some books again 🤔
@elkeo There will be some new Agatha Christie covers. Maybe you have a look. 😉
