Mister Tender's Girl
Mister Tender's Girl: A Novel | Carter Wilson
How far are you willing to go for Mister Tender? At fourteen, Alice Hill was viciously attacked by two of her classmates and left to die. The teens claim she was a sacrifice for a man called Mister Tender, but that could never be true: Mister Tender doesn't exist. His sinister character is pop-culture fiction, nothing more. Over a decade later, Alice has changed her name and is trying to heal. But someone is watching her. They know more about Alice than any stranger: her scars, her fears, and the secrets she keeps locked away. She can try to escape her past, but he is never far behind. Addictive and chillingly surprising, this ripped-from-the-headlines thriller will have you transfixed until the very last page.

#LittensDressedInBlood Today‘s prompt is Creep. There were a lot of titles going through my head, but then I spied this book on my shelf. There is a creepy pair of twins obsessed with a fictional character (this book def gives Slenderman vibes), plus I love this book and want everyone to read it.

I went into this hoping it would be a horror book. After all, it is based on the Slenderman myth. Instead it‘s a mystery/thriller. Who is stalking Alice? Why are they bringing up things from her past? And who is killing people around her? I will say, I was a bit surprised by the reveal at the end. The book was a fast, fun read. As the reader receives little bits of information, questions are answered and questions are raised. Don't trust anyone.

I‘ve really been into creepy books lately and have been seeking out the creepiest things I can find. So tell me: What‘s the creepiest book you‘ve ever read?

TheLibrarian Ooo I‘m really curious what others will list because I love horror and creepy things. Most things I haven‘t found to be creepy but I do love all things by Joe Hill. 4y
abookishbutterfly @TheLibrarian I‘ve only read his Heart-Shaped Box so far, which was great, but I have a few others of his waiting to be read. Do you have a favorite that he‘s written? 4y
ImperfectCJ Ooh! I love this question! I'm picky about creepy books, but I found Hex creepy, as well as Michelle Paver's Dark Matter, Susan Hill's The Little Stranger, and Mariko Koike's The Graveyard Apartment. 4y
See All 36 Comments
abookishbutterfly @ImperfectCJ I have Hex on my list! It does sound really good! I‘ll look into the other ones. Thank you! 4y
JenlovesJT47 Horns is great, so is Heart-Shaped Box, Pet Sematary (dunno if you read much SK but he has tons of creepy books!). The Sun Down motel is creepy! What kind of scary are you looking for? No Exit is also pretty freaky and disturbing. 😱 4y
DavidDiamond I loved Hill‘s NOS4A2 and one of the creepiest books I‘ve read is Cold Skin by Albert Pinol. 4y
TheLibrarian @Butterflyamore I‘ve read his graphic novel series Locke & Key which I love! And read Horns (book is better than the movie). I‘ve heard amazing things about NOS4R2 but haven‘t read it yet. I haven‘t read it in a while, but I enjoyed 4y
DavidDiamond Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay is another creepy and excellent option. 4y
TheLibrarian I second @JenlovesJT47 for No Exit - it‘s insane. 4y
abookishbutterfly @JenlovesJT47 Thank! I‘ve read most of what you named, except Horns and The Sun Down Motel, but I do have a copy of St. James one. Any kind of creepy is fine with me! 4y
abookishbutterfly @DavidDiamond I‘ve heard great things about his books, although I‘ve yet to read him. His upcoming book sounds really interesting, too. 4y
abookishbutterfly @TheLibrarian The tagged books sounds really interesting! And I have a copy of NOS4R2 coming! 4y
JenlovesJT47 All of Simone St James‘ books are creepy on some level. She perfectly blends mystery with the supernatural. The Broken Girls is excellent! 4y
JenlovesJT47 @TheLibrarian I will never look at a rest stop the same way!! 😱 I felt like I was there! 4y
TheLibrarian @JenlovesJT47 Same! While traveling alone from my parents‘ house to back home I had to use the restroom but decided to take my chances trying to make it home instead of stopping at a rest stop alone. 4y
JoScho I love a good creepy book. I am a huge fan of Darcy Coates-her haunted house books are my fave. If you haven‘t read Bird Box it is good and eerie. The Twisted Ones by T. Kingfisher is also great. 4y
JoScho Oh and this one is good 4y
sdbruening The Strain! 4y
ravenlee I don‘t much like creepy, but I enjoyed Katherine Arden‘s MG books Small Spaces and Dead Voices. 4y
AllieLovesBooks The Tell-Tale Heart by Poe...actually anything by Poe 🖤 4y
DGRachel Seed by Ania Ahlborn scarred me for life, I think, and I also loved The Laws of the Skies by Gregoire Courtois. 4y
Birdsong28 The tagged book. I read on my own at uni years ago and I had to keep looking over my shoulder and it was the scariest book I have read since but as I am not a big horror fan that isn't hard to beat. 😂👻 4y
cjbooklover I don‘t really read creepy books, but recently I read the and enjoyed it 4y
abookishbutterfly @JenlovesJT47 I have read The Broken Girls 😊 4y
abookishbutterfly @JoScho I have read Bird Box and I have a buddy read next month for one of Coates‘ books. I haven‘t read T. kingfisher at all so I will have to look into that one! Thanks! 4y
abookishbutterfly @OrtizReads1 Love Poe! The Tell-Tale Heart is my favorite. 4y
abookishbutterfly @sdbruening I‘ll have to look that up! 4y
abookishbutterfly @ravenlee They do sound like good books! 4y
abookishbutterfly @Birdsong28 That definitely sounds creepy! 4y
abookishbutterfly @cjbooklover The Whisper Man is one of my favorites! 4y
abookishbutterfly @DGRachel I‘ll look into those. Thanks! 4y

This was a great book that I couldn't stop reading. First off, this book is based off of true events with what happened with Slenderman. It is definitely a work of fiction though. A young girl gets stabbed by two of her classmates and lives. They stab her because Mr. Tender (a graphic novel devil bartender) told them to stab her. We fast forward her life and she has a new name and wants to forget what happened in the past.. Ending was great! 4 *

Oh this book. 😍 It was dark when it needed to be, humorous in parts that made the story line even more perfect, and was suspenseful in every chapter. This author wow‘d me.

Based loosely on the “Slenderman” attempted murder by two girls, I expected this book to go in many directions but definitely wasn‘t expecting it to be THIS GOOD. I loved every moment and will reread soon ☺️

Tanless_Tanner - There once was a man in the woods - whose arms reached the ground where he stood - you'll know when he's near, a sharp ring in your ear - and you'll see horrors that no person should - 6y

Thomas looks down at the coffee table where my phone vibrated and scoots along the smooth wooden surface. He reads the contact on the screen to me.

“It‘s Mom,” he says.

“Oh, good God.”

“Should we answer it?”

“No, we don‘t answer it. There‘s a man bleeding to death in my living room.”

I‘m so in love with this book 😍😍😍😍

RadicalReader @akckitty what a remarkable section totally completely accurate. We want things to be normal this is the furthest thing from and we don‘t need to be answering a phone call amidst a crisis 6y

If you get the sudden urge to start trusting someone, be smart and do away with it.

Based on The Slender Man crimes, it will keep you on the edge of your seat. It's creepy, It's absorbing. It's a fantastic thriller that will hold you in its grip until the end.....Alice Hills story will haunt you long after...
Highly Recommended Thriller.

I don't know if it's because the books I was reading when this library hold came through are kind of a slog, but I tore through this. It was a quick read, but reminded me a little of YA in it's telling if that makes sensed, based on the Slenderman crime, it focuses on the effects that surviving such a thing has on a person and the odd obsession people can have with a crime and it's survivors. The last bit was v tense.

1. I've always got several going but this one is foremost in my mind.
2. Life? I was kind of a solitary kid who preferred books to playing outdoors.
3. In the morning with coffee, during lunch break at work, before bed
4. More non-fiction things tend to stick with me because, reality, but I loved how some of Stephen Kings characters crossed over between books.

Words cannot explain how bone chillingly good this book was. Just what I needed, especially with term papers coming up. Alice was stabbed by 2 classmates when She was 14. Now, almost 14 years later, someone is stalking her, when she thought she had finally put the past in the past. Some of the twists were a little predictable but in the end, it was still so good. #springreads #thrillers #basedonatruestory

Wow - this book impressed me!! Wilson offers a story inspired by the Slender Man stabbing. The main character here is the survivor of a stabbing attack and the daughter of the man who created Mister Tender. Her past and present collide and she finds the truth about what happened that night. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

An enjoyable story that was day time only reading for this delicate flower.
