3.75⭐️ I enjoyed the book a little bit more than I did the last time I read it six months ago, but there were some things that I wished would have done: 1) revealed why the family decided to pass as white (what were the reasons her mom had for doing this) 2) not write the book in such a clinical manner and have more emotion to the story rather than just in a matter of fact way 3) have a conflict that is central to the story and not just ⬇️

melissajayne about Bella trying to pass as a white woman. Overall it was pretty decent book, but needed some improvements to make the story better. #2022 #bookreview #bookstagram #reread #historicalfiction #jpmorgam #bellalacostagreene #passing #africanamericans #basedonatruestory 2w

4 ⭐️ While I am a big fan of the series, this book isn‘t one of my favourites. I think it‘s probably because it is fairly simple and the chapters seem to be unrelated at times. Definitely a decent start to the series. #2022 #fiction #basedonatruestory #historicalfiction #bookstagram #bookreview #littlehouse

4⭐️ I quite liked this book. I have known about her property in Palm Beach and as I read the book, I was quite surprised at what an amazing woman she must have been. I wish she had had a husband who was better suited for her. #2022 #bookreview #bookstagram #historicalfiction #fiction #basedonatruestory #wwi #greatdepression #wwii

A good book that brings the conflict in #Uganda and being part of the Lord's Resistance Army to life. The main character, with his brother and 3 friends, is abducted as a pre-teen and forced to be part of a brutal military movement against the government. Based on a true story, this narrative is interspersed with a fictional one of another young man who has just escaped, which I found less compelling.

4.5⭐️ Took me awhile to get into this book, but once I did, I really enjoyed it. My mom is fascinated with Abraham Lincoln and the American Civil war (I didn‘t know this until she mentioned it a few weeks ago; she has an old book of his writings and speeches). I really liked how the author mainly focused on the other Booth siblings rather than on John. #2022 #bookstagram #bookreview #historicalfiction #fiction #basedonatruestory

jlhammar I look forward to finishing this one over the weekend. I'm not very far in yet, but your review makes me even more excited to get back to it! I wonder if it will make the #Booker2022 shortlist on Tuesday. 3mo

I stalked my profile all evening but still missed it by “that much.” Closing in on six years of Litsy, definitely the best platform in town.

4⭐️ I will admit that I got this book because everyone was talking about it a little over a year ago. It took me a little bit to get into the story, but once I did, I quite enjoyed it. #2022 #bookreview #bookstagram #historicalfiction #fiction #basedonatruestory #awardwinner #womensprize

3.25⭐️ While there were aspects of the book that I really liked, I felt that there was a good chunk of the book that I struggled to get through. I really liked the sections when Nan was at the mother‘s home and felt that they were better than the more current timeline that was presented in the book. #2022 #historicalfiction #basedonatruestory #1920s #fiction #bookreview #bookstagram #reesesbookclub

22 #16 This book took a minute to get fully invested in the characters. And the title doesn‘t go with the story all that much. As the secret letter is mentioned in the beginning of the book and never really brought up again.🤷‍♀️ But overall very much worth the read.
