This is my #QuickRead for the day. I have books waiting for me to start when I get home so this, coming in under 200 pages, is perfect to bridge the gap. I read about 100 pages last night and I'm utterly fascinated by Christopher Knight, who camped alone in the Maine woods *ALL YEAR 'ROUND* for decades. 😳 I whine if I have to spend 10 minutes clearing snow off my car, you guys.

Just small #waves at the shore today. The weather had been beautiful and I got to read this book by the water! This might be my favorite Ware book yet. Lots of Gothic touches and a housekeeper reminiscent of Mrs Danvers herself made this a winner for me!

My current #SummertimeRead is the follow-up to the Andy Cohen Diaries. More of his adventures fending off Real Housewives in the wild, name dropping and party hopping, and trying to find happiness in NYC. Even reading about his Christmas party (at which a former RHoOC screamed at another guest) seems more appropriate while sitting in the sun with a cold beverage.

Pickpick

This book has been on my shelf for ages, so i was glad to pull it as my May TBR Jar pick. I finished this last night and it was not at all what I expected. It starts out as a domestic thriller but by the end is much more reminiscent of The Yellow Wallpaper. It was a quick read, partly because of the style and partly because I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend this one for anyone looking for a suspenseful book with a unique plot. #TBRJar

This one is a page turner! Reminiscent of books like You by Caroline Kepness and Best Day Ever by Kaira Rouda, this book is narrated by a man who is utterly obsessed with a woman he keeps in his life, whether she wants to be there or not. As disturbing as it is it's also a trip to be in the head of a character *this* messed up. It also highlights the screwed up ways in which society holds women responsible for things done by men in their lives.

Mehso-so

The questions about society's obsession with true crime and whether or not it helps hold our justice system accountable were the most interesting part of this debut mystery. Unfortunately the characters fell flat for me (and in some cases were downright annoying). I enjoyed the story, though, and the use of transcripts, tweets, and Reddit threads to help tell the story. I'll definitely check out Barber's next book.

I'm admittedly not a fan of Miss Marple but this book was better than the first few in the series (A Murder is Announced not withstanding). Christie does murder in remote country houses better than most and this book was no exception. A cast of barely likable characters, enough red herrings to keep things entertaining, and a clever ending make this classic Christie. Miss Marple is no Poirot but she might be growing on me a bit. #mystery #Christie

This book was just as good as I hoped it would be. The horror / slasher film comparison is on point because, as I read, I could see it playing out in my head like Scream. Our protagonist, Quincy, doesn't know who to trust (including herself and who doesn't love an unreliable narrator?) making everyone a suspect. The ending caught me completely by surprise, making this is a perfect "beside the pool" kind of book. Definitely check this one out!

Starting this one today. Just some light reading over spring break.

Guinn (author of Manson) details the childhood of Jones, his early ministry, and his decision to move a thousand followers into the jungle of Guyana. He combed through FBI files, interviewed the people with whom Jones grew up, and returned to Jonestown with the pilot who flew Congressman Jones in to check in on the group. It is intended to be the definitive book on Jonestown.

This stand-alone Hannah novel was a four star read. It wasn't her best and required some suspension of disbelief to buy the motivation of the "bad guy" but it made me chuckle more than once and that goes a long way!

The chapters alternate between present day and a murder mystery written by the protagonist's daughter, who is beginning to think the story, which depicts a murder in their new home, might be true. #Recommendsday
